Raise a Well-Behaved Cat : Remove Temptations for Cats from Counter Tops

My 12 week old kitten can jump on the counters on her own. She's Siberian so she can jump like crazy. My biggest fear is she'll get hurt or eat something she shouldn't. I have to do dishes immediately after dinner or she'll clear the kitchen herself.

You could might as well just NOT have a cat, that way you won't even have to worry about giving the cat a temptation get on there. This video was simply plain stupid. How to avoid your cat scratching your couch? Don't buy one!

@ckypop What extactaly is a cat going to do on the countertop that's so bad? Do all cats have toxmoplasmosis and even when they do, most people (aside from unborn babies) have an immunity to it. If people are bothered by cat hair or "kitty feathers" as my four year old neice adorably calls sheaded cat hair, they shouldn't have any animals at all. I think we people are much more philty than our pets.

@misspinkpunkykat First off, it's FILTHY, not philthy, and secondly, I couldn't give a fuck whether my cat's on the countertop or not. I'm just saying this video is retarded. If you came to a conclusion it matters to me, then you hav a serious coherence problem.

I agree with keeping the counter top clean. Equally important is to provide a high place that your cat IS allowed to jump onto in the room. Maybe the reason why your cat likes the counter top or table is not the food. Maybe she simply wants to be higher up, which is in her nature. Keep the place clean and give her somewhere to jump onto that's attractive, e.g. a windowsill where she can look at the birds. She WILL stay off the counter top.

my cat goes on my counter tops and tables because he thinks they are his. He only eats cat food, and is completely indifferent to human food except raw moose meat. When he was young and I was training him to not go on tables and counters, he used to purposely go on for no other reason then to taunt me.

When it clomes to training, it all depends on whether the cat will permit you to train them or not. If the cat is too smart and realizes that you are ultimately a push over, good luck.
