  • @ABWorsham4 CBS needs to bring back this theme and most importantly, get rid of Shannon Sharpe!!!! REPLY BACK.

  • how would these teams do in todays NFL?

  • Comment removed

  • @10027nyc also don't forget the Steelers and Oilers (now Titans).

  • CBS NEEDS TO BRING THIS THEME BACK FOR SUPER BOWL XLVII in 2013!!!

  • @rpv173 DAMN RIGHT, DUDE.

  • @davey5w DAMN RIGHT, davey5w. AT LEAST WE HAVE YOUTUBE FOR OLD CLIPS. And Al Michaels is on NBC now.

  • This was the best championship rivalry in the NFL.

  • @10027nyc don't forget the Packers-Browns and Browns-Colts.

  • @davey5w hey davey5w Al Michaels is on NBC now, calling Sunday night games there. Yes we miss the good ol days. At least we have YouTube for old school clips. REPLY BACK.

  • next contract talks have CBS go back to NFC rights

  • @thedude19766 then who gets the AFC rights, NBC?

  • @kimv020887 AFC and Sunday Nights NBC ESPN stays MNF and thursday vs/NBC sports Network

  • @thedude19766 okay, just like the good ol days. NBC-AFC and CBS-NFC. But ABC needs the MNF.

  • I'd say the best rilvary in league history. As a die hard Cowboys fan I loved to hate the 49ers, every game was just so epic and memorable and to top it off they were the two most elite teams in the league through the 90's.

  • @supervilla06 The NFC was unstoppable until Super Bowl XXXII when the Broncos beat the Packers in January 1998.

  • The AFC had no chance against these guys.

  • @wataru22 that's true, and certainly not the Buffalo Bills. 4 straight SB losses to NFC East teams. Giants, Redskins, Cowboys (2). NFC was just too strong in the trenches. Buffalo had fine skill position players, but the O and D lines couldn't handle those teams muscle up front.

  • @earthshine2k the AFC had a losing streak in the Super Bowl from Super Bowl XIX to Super Bowl XXXI. REPLY BACK.

  • @kimv020887 correct, against the teams I mentioned, S.F., and the Bears and Packers. For the reasons I mentioned.

  • @earthshine2k the AFC's losing streak ended at Super Bowl XXXII when the Broncos dethroned the Packers to win their first Super Bowl ring. Super Bowl XXXII which is the last NFL game on NBC until NBC broadcast Super Bowl XLIII in '09.

  • @wataru22 DAMN RIGHT, DUDE.

  • Ever since CBS hired Shannon Sharpe, he has ruined the NFL Today and turned it into a comedy show. Remember the Meltdown Of The Year that they did? it WAS NOT funny. Anyone agree with me?

  • @kimv020887 Shut up

  • @Team903rd what do you mean shut up?

  • @kimv020887 You're taking about a guy who won three Super Bowls with two different teams (Broncos and Ravens), second All-time leader for Tight Ends in three categories: receptions (815), receiving yards (10,060) and receiving touchdowns (62) by a tight end (behind Tony Gonzales) and member of the NFL's All 1990's team. His entertaining and funny approach gives "The NFL Today" a balance from the boring commentary of Boomer Esaison, who makes Pat Summerall sound like Gus Johnson. So shut up.

  • @Team903rd well i watched old NFL Today clips from 70s/80s and they were serious then.

  • Hey CBS, save yourself and fire SHANNON SHARPE, he's ruining THE NFL TODAY!!! Anyone agree?

  • It begins and ends with Jerry Rice

    Cowboys fan: Granted

  • last NFL on CBS game before 1998

  • @StFidjnr yep CBS lost the NFC rights in 94 but gained AFC rights in '98. NBC, the network CBS took the AFC rights, would gain Sunday night NFL games in '06. am I correct?

  • Good memories. I miss that theme song. Reminds me of a great childhood.

  • @rpv173 CBS should bring back the 1992-1993 theme every time they have the Super Bowl. Their current theme should be used only for the regular season and the AFC Championship Game. CBS should use their 1992-1993 theme for Super Bowl XLVII in 2014.

  • GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!

  • lol this is so cool to watch some of the music you can hear it off some movies today haha crazy...

  • The NFL isn't the same anymore. I miss these days

  • @radix9523 I'm with you on that

  • RIP Texas Stadium

  • funny how pat Summerall didn't ask who's the better running back because that was Emmitt Smith by a landslide over Ricky Watteres.

  • and rice was a landslide over irvin and steve young a landslide over aikman- aikman's oline was arguably the greatest ever, while young was running for his life year in and year out....

  • @6ft2220beast

Hmmm...so those landslides led to three Dallas titles to one for SF? I don't care for either team, but that's some flawed logic. BTW...there is no argument, the 76 Raiders was the greatest o-line ever.

  • @cbaldwinjr BUT WHAT O-LINE IN 1972& 73 THE EXPENDABLES

  • These we're real games..By far the best games i've ever watched..This was the super bowl.

  • Damn that CBS theme song gives me goosebumbs!! Great theme song. What happened to it

  • 1:35 - it's not just CBS, it's CBS and a 5. Somebody was in a CBS state of mind!

  • This was GREAT F'N Editing! This is why I miss NFC Football with Summeral and Madden on CBS.

  • nice mullets!@!!

  • When will you ever see a Championship game with so many hall of famers? QB's, RB's, WR's, DB's I mean even the freaking kickers are mentioned. These were certainly great times. And yes, I am a 49ers fan.

To this day I will always mention cockroaches and Cowboys in the same sentence, but even in defeat, I will also treasure those games.

  • @aztlan8080 ALL ABOUT DEM COWBOYS

  • lol at the commercial again! like someone would ever try to say steve young is better than aikman LMAO

  • Steve Young was better than Aikman go back and research Young had 2 MVPS trophies Aikman had none and Youngs stats were better. Plus they each have 3 Super Bowl rings.

  • @swissbeats2k

how many did Steve Young have as a starter? the answer to that is 1, how many did Aikman have? 3. And don't say stats make a QB better than another, because Tony Romo has stats better than John Elway and Roger Staubach. The Cowboys were a run-first team and the 9ers were a Pass-first team, which is why Young had better stats than Aikman. Aikman was a better QB than Young, both were great though.

  • Romo plays in a way more offensive era, so that comparison is invalid.

Young and Aikman played in the same era. Look at the TD-INT ratios of those guys. Young blows Aikman out of the water.

  • @ataribigby1

in a way more OFFENSIVE era?!?! Umm Elway played in a pretty much passing era too.

Back in the 90s, the Cowboys were a run first team, while the 9ers were a pass-first team, which would explain the stats. Aikman was soooo much more clutch than Young, 3 Rings - 1

  • @hlev123

Look at the amount of 4000 yard passers as of late, and compare that number to the number from Elway's time from 1983-1998, particularly the 80s. If you pass more, you should have more TD but also more INT. If you pass less, then you should have less TD and less INT. If a guy passes the ball 600 times , and throws 30 TD to 12 INT, he has a TD-INT ratio of 2.5, which is excellent. If a guy only throws 400 times, but has 17 TD to 16 INT, he has a ratio of just over 1. That's not good.

  • @hlev123 You forget that for most of those years, Aikman's team had a better running game and a much better defense. THose were the keys to those Cowboys-49er games. Whoever ran the ball better and played better defense won those games.

  • emmit rarely got off on us... it was alvin harper who broke our backs till deion got there...

  • @ataribigby1 Young blows Aikman out? lol

    Young GOT 3 RINGS??????

  • @CowboysOwnEaglesLMAO

Does Jim Plunkett receive a better ranking than Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, Warren Moon, and Dan Fouts because Jim has 2 rings to 0?

  • @CowboysOwnEaglesLMAO how bout dem cowboys now asshoe?

  • @LTlKUSHl21 lol if your gonna talk crap to somebody make sure you spell right lol

  • @swissbeats2k tru that buddy

  • @swissbeats2k

Oh come on with that Young has three rings. Yes, I know he played during each of those seasons but that's ridiculous. He didn't play a majority of those games and didn't do anything in the playoffs. If Montana hadn't gotten injured in the last championship and played for the 49ers his last five years, the 49ers would probably would have hit seven titles at least.

  • you notice they only show the niners beating the boys in da playoffs but they wont show the boys beating the crap out of the niners in both nfc championship game

  • idk if we will ever see this type of teams in the nfl again. these 2 teams were dream teams. always awesome games when the 49's or cowboys came to town in the 90's

  • That is true, they were regularly sending 10 guys to the pro bowl on each team. In a way it is nice to have some parity because the AFC teams had no real shot from 1983-1997.. Bills got a near "break" with Joe Montana getting hurt in the 1990 NFC Championship game, yet still the Giants won with their grind it out strategy.

  • Listen to the names they are saying. The talent in that game at their prime would mollywop today's NFL.

  • @StylistecS . Great post man. Those are all the greatest man. And they are the toughest ever without a doubt.

  • @StylistecS no salary cap. its dumb...

  • @13stevejohnson Why'd you say that?

  • lol at the commercial, like anyone would try to say they would want ricky watters over emmitt lol

  • @hlev123 well if I'm running a west coast offensive I do want waters over Smith. If I running the I formation, I want Smith.

  • ahh the early 90's of the nfl... where the road to the super bowl began and eventually ended with the Cowboys and 49ers

  • Only Pat Summerall can say "the house with the hole in the roof" and not make people giggle =P

  • This CBS theme and Pat Summerall's narration comprise a match made in heaven!

  • @davey5w

Lots of dallas cowboys got in trouble with the law and drugs back then, so the "good old days" is inaccurate in this case

LT (the real one, not tomlinson) at this point was at the height of his drug addiction too

  • @dpinzow

The entire league had that and it has nothing to do with what happen on the field

  • There was no way in h*** anyone was beating green bay in 1996...

  • Funny, they were walloped by Dallas and Brett Favre NEVER won at Texas stadium or beat Dallas in the playoffs, so had they met the odds are he would've choked again.

  • Look like a scene from roadhouse lol

  • Offence will get you to the playoffs , Dallas Doomsday will get you a superbowl.

  • I'm from Texas. I absolutely Loved the San Francisco 49ers. My little Brother was a Dallas Cowboys fan from jump. We lived and died after every play and fought at the end of every one of these games. GOOD TIMES, especially when we finally won in 1994.

I wish they would release these games on DVD or something. Even though 2 were painful I would love to watch them again with my bro.

  • these were 2 of the most dominant teams ever in football. my dad is a huge cowboy fan and have been for 30 years he has all these games on tape. these games were grudge matches.

  • The NFC championship was basically, the Super Bowl back in the 90s. The NFC was so far ahead of the AFC back then. Now the tables have turned but seriously, back then it was always 49ers, Cowboys, and Packers going at it.

  • the good ol days...best rivalry of all time...go 9ers!!

  • then came Green Bay for a couple of years...what year did Owens catch that TD against the Packers, and was that Mariucci coaching, and was that NFC title game? probably not.....

  • It was a 1998 wild card game. I'm not sure if Mariucci was the coach.

  • He was the coach. That was the year the Vikings broke the scoring record and lost to Atlanta when they missed that FG.

  • back then the packers would always lose to the cowboys they lost to the boys like 3 years in a row in the playoffs if not for the cowboys losing to carolina in 96' green bay might not have gotten to the super bowl.

  • I don't think that Dallas team goes INTO Green Bay and beats the Packers...you have to remember that all those losses were ALL in Dallas. During that time, Green Bay NEVER hosted Dallas. When they did in 1997, they won 45-17 and that game started the Cowboys' 5-game losing streak to end that season.

  • that cowboys team would have beat GB in GB for one reason...they were better you have to remember that the NFC EAST was the toughest division in football and none of those playoff games were that close. they couldnt stop emmitt at all or irvin and that Dallas D was incredible!! in 1997 dallas's run was over anyway. dallas's run started in 1992 the packers didnt start asserting their dominance till 1996 and in 1996 they went to the SB with out even playing dallas.

  • Maybe. I just don't think Dallas goes INTO frigid GB and beats the '96 Packers team. The NFC East didn't even help them beat the Panthers...so I doubt they beat one of the better teams of the last 20 years IN GB

  • maybe in the 96' season but any of the other games that dallas and green bay played? dallas still would have won all those games they wer flat out better and favre was a turnover machine (and he still is) let us not forget that dallas had prime time on D enuff said.

  • LOL...that's the only game I was talking about. I never take away from how great that 90's Dallas team was...they we're two plays and a popped hammy from possibly winning three straight SB's. All I'm saying is that I think '96 was just Green Bay's year...and that Dallas team wasn't going INTO Green Bay and winning IMHO.

  • oh well that dallas team was done for anyway thats a lame argument.

  • Four straight, it would've been a four peat.

  • The Cowboys were very beat up at that time, Charles Haley was hurt, Jay Novacek didn't play all year, Irvin and Deion were hurt in the Divisional playoffs, and Leon lett was suspended.

So they would definitely would've had trouble had they advanced that beat up but against a healthy team Green bay was second fiddle.

  • packers suck

Only 1 Championship since 1967. What a Joke and Favre the biggest Choke Artist in Big Games ever.

  • 49ers/Cowboys was kinda like what the Patriots/Colts was there for a while.

  • Not even close. The Cowboys/Niners from that time were so far ahead of the rest of the league in talent that you had to remind yourself that they weren't the only two teams in the league. Watching them go at it was almost literally like watching the pro-bowl.

  • Eh maybe but in the Colts/Patriots rivalry you're literally watching the 2 greatest qb's ever in one game. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are without a doubt the 2 greatest qb's ever.

  • Joe Montana is the greatest QB ever.

  • no shit

  • elway

  • I respect Elway. He was the man.

  • his son and Gretzky's son are the QB's at a private school in cali....nick montana is the starrtee ans will smith's son is the WR....Gretzky's kid is the backup... i think Montana is going to U of Washington next year.

  • There's doubt.

I assure you Bradshaw vs. Staubach and Young vs. Aikman or Favre vs. Aikman were just as intriguing if not more so.

  • what was the final score of this one?

  • Cowboys won 38-21. And the game wasn't even that close.

  • thx, i forgot the niners D was average for a couple of years, and then they got gary Plummer and deion sanders and beat cowboys in 94.....that was a wicked game, up 21-0 so fast, steve young finally went on to get his SB ring.

  • As a 49er fan, I can honestly say this game was the most brutal loss in 49er history. Winning the superbowl the next year, even at the expense of the cowboys, didn't make up for the pain of this loss. Winning the 1994 superbowl was like a consolation prize to 49er fans, who after the 93 NFC championship game, had to concede that the 49ers' domination of the league was over for good.

  • true, the 9ers were better than the cowboys in 92' and 93'

  • Don't smoke crack.

  • they were better thats why they had home field. dont be a homer.

  • They got thei ass kicked at home and then got their ass kicked with a guarantee at Texas Stadium twice the next season.

You just don't make any sense.

Plus the NFC West was a pathetic division with only four teams and virtually six guaranteed wins at that time.

The two losses San Fran had in the 1992 regular season were to Arizona and Buffalo, Dallas was 3-0 against those teams and kicked San Fran's as in the Bay to boot.

Dallas won the Super bowl 52-17 to cap it off, don't be a dumbass.

  • you dont have to recite the dallas cowboys glory years. what you're talking about had nothing to do with the above conversation. dont try to deminish what the 49ers did, regardless of what the division is they still won the games and won super bowl, you sound like a hater. just like dallas beat san fran, san fran beat dallas. it would have been a 4 peat? no because dallas lost in the playoffs remember? to the 49ers so the division. in 95' they didnt play each other. GB beat SF.

  • You said they were better, clearly they were not, empirical evidence damns your argument as foolish.

  • did you not read the prior message that i was having with SOMEONE ESLE??? we are talking about more than just the fuckin cowboys dummy were talking about both teams and how good they were. you bring your nosy cowboy fanatic ass in the convo and you're talking about the cowboys NOBODY GIVES A FUCK about how good they are thats not the topic. some of the messages even talk about GB but you're fixiated on dallas. typical cowboy fan....only want to talk about dallas.

  • you're a selective reader, learn reading comprehension and quit arguing against things that were never said. Go back and look at the context of the quote, your revisionist history is laughable to any earnest sports observer.

  • selective reader? no im just not a homer like you. im not a fan of either team and apparently you cant tell that by reading all the messages i had with SOMEONE ELSE!! the quote about SF being better has nothing to do with the outcome of the NFC title outcome its about the rivalry and all 3 games as a whole. you want to get in to an argument about dallas winning.....i really dont care. you started yappin like typical cowboy fans talking about the 9ers division...but they beat dallas didnt they?

  • My mistake, apparently you can;t read at all, regardless you're categorically wrong here in reality but in lala land you can keep arguing with yourself, i frankly don't care. Your internet ranting won't change history.

  • @2Howl

Weird you chose that one...lots of 49ers fans I know think the roger craig fumble against the giants was the most heartbreaking loss ever for the niners

  • Even though CBS would resume covering the NFL in 1998, January 23, 1994 still marked a true end of an era. To me, anything that happened from '98 onward (w/ that sense of continuity broken) is a different TV show. I wish that CBS would at the very least bring back this theme music for the NFL.

  • CBS is and always was the NFL's best....The NFL screwed the pooch letting FUX and their gayboy who got the job because of daddy Buck into the fray.

Summerall is CBS, pure class...The only reason FUX hired him is they wanted that blimp blowhard..Otherwise he never fit in that 2bit Married with Children network. He's too classy and knowledgeable for their demographic.

  • joe buck sucks, but his old man was awesome especially calling kirby puckett's HR game 6 against the Braves "and we'll see you tomorrow night"

  • His old man was great....Too bad his son is trying to ruin his legacy...

  • IN 93 and 94 I knew it would come down to the 49ers and Cowboys. 94 I especially new it would come down between them.

  • cowboys the best!!!!!!

  • hey, summerall flicked me off at the end there

  • lol, genius.

  • he did flick em off all nonchalant!

  • Man, how we all miss these days...miss the great Summerall and Madden duo..definitely the glory days in the early 90's

  • or the best duo for CBS back then

  • The Cowboys and the 49er's were truly

two of the best teams in the early 90's. As

for the " nfc championship was the real

super bowl" argument, it should be noted

the Bills played the Cowboys tough in Super Bowl xxviii. Even though they didn't win a super bowl, Buffalo was also a good team. It will be quite some time before three teams dominate like these

    three teams did.

  • From 1992 to 1996 Dallas was the most talented team in football that the 49ers and packers used as their measuring stick to success.

  • Be careful if you argue with highwater03 below. He will come to your channel and lambaste you, meanwhile his channel comments all pend approval. Hahahaha. What a lilly-livered chinless wonder.

  • Why can't we have introductions like this today

  • The hottest rivalries of the 1990's. The San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. How those two teams hated each other. And as far as I'm concerned, they still hate each other.

  • Sigh.

Cowboys fan here, wistful for old times.

  • The AFC was truly the sacrificial lamb to the NFC back in the 80's to mid 90's, and the NFL itself was just not big enough for the 49ers and Cowboys! God I miss these days so much!!!

  • ha 9ers got pwned twice in a row

and it aint the only time they have beaten the 9ers in the nfc champ game lol

  • I predict Dallas will win ... 38-21!

  • COWBOYS BABY !

  • GO 49ers!!

  • Where can I get the full version of this great game?

  • I miss Pat Summerall! This was indeed the best rivalry in the 90's

  • just moved new area

    wanting new friends nz

  • :52-:55...best sports music intro ever. If only CBS took their old music back and ABC EVER got a clue and used John Tesh's NBA on NBC intro. One could only wish

  • It'll be interesting this year, the NFC looks to belong to the Giants right now but the AFC is absolutely anybody's guess. New England, Indy, Pittsburgh, even our Broncos, San Diego could still get back in, Tennessee, NY Jets... it's gonna be one hell of a winter!

  • haha that reply rice make that catch on hes sleep awesome go niner

  • Uhh...that guy was as gay as the 49ers. So it kinda figures. That dude looked like a greasy tool

  • Man back in the 90's it was all NFC, it was all Cowboys and 49ers in the early 90's. I am a Dolphins fan but even I knew that we over matched compared to those guys, the bills proved they were no match either.

  • You didn't hear about players getting arrested but that doesn't mean that they didn't.

  • I think what davey5w meant was that it (players getting arrested) wasn't as regular an occurrence as it is now.

  • go giants!

  • In CBS StereoSound, no less!

  • God what a game. What a memory. I am 25 years old now and I remember the day this happened very vividly. These two teams were impossible to pick as your favorite growing up as a young NFL fan. Reminds me of my childhood and the days of the NFL I miss and can never get bcak.

  • Watch your back, Dallas Cowboys, because on November 23, 2008, The 49ers are commin' to Dallas, TX to kick your ass again.

  • Dallas is going to kick SF ass all day you guys have over paid NATE CLEMENTS niners have sorry ass owner and PATRICK WILLIS wont be niner for long and there moving to santa clara.......

  • Evidently, Cowboys 35, Niners 22 = whose ass got kicked?

  • Love the way they rolled the opening music right into CBS' greatest football theme music ever - they should go back to it

  • Definitely not in 1993. If Jimmy Johnson was the head coach of the Cowboys in 1994 the Cowboys would've beaten SF.

  • yawn

  • Play someone besides an NFC West bird team and don't have the refs in on the take next time.

  • You mean like the Cowboys twice?

Or perhaps the Vikings? You know, we beat them both and they aren't in the NFC West. Epic fail on your part.

    Next.........................

  • Wait. You've only named three teams. You haven't named the fourth. You don't know the history of the very team you're frontrunning for. THAT'S an epic fail, you cazzo.

Try the Rams in 1979. Go get a law degree because that's what you're fit for.

  • *yawn*

You said BESIDES the NFC West.

Vikings, Cowboys, we beat them both, and they ain't from the NFC West.

    Next........................loser.

  • "besides an NFC West bird team"

Let's recap. A) You're a frontrunner for the Steelers. B) You can't name ALL the teams your newfound team has beaten in Super Bowl play. And now C) you think a ram is a bird. So, yeah, I do suggest you hit "next" and get away from me and find someone you can actually beat in a debate, you moron. You idiot. Are you on Elmer's or markers?

  • Both you two... semantics.

Why don't you fight about it?

  • Hard to believe that Jimmy Johnson is a two-time NASCAR champion now.

  • Oops...wrong guy...that's JimmIE Johnson, excuse me...

  • NASCAR is for rednecks.

  • so are the cowgirls : for rednecks

  • so are the forty whiners : for queers.
