AS i understand from reading the Dogotech site...Vocalist threee DOES include pitch correction........I assume that Vocalist 4 and now Vocalist 5 do as well
@ cool29801 you are very.. kind i need to get the machine out and do some more demos...I broke my left arm in July and just now getting the strength back..I sure missed my guitar. I think the harmonizer does help with your singing.
@cast390 - if your melody line is on then the harmonies will follow but you do have lots of settings to adjust the volume and whether you want 3 tenors in higher octave or lower octaves and many combinations. This one I used is actually called Eagles..lol There's 5 blind boys and Guys and Gals combination. I can set it so the harmony comes out like a girls voice.. it's pretty trippy.
no it's not auto tune. if you're off then there's 4 part harmony of a bad note. in a sense it might hide it. It's designed for a vocal. it does have effects. With an instrument it wouldn't follow the chord progression to stay in same pitch. the guitar plays a chord and the vocal follows that chord to stay in that chord. i need to do some more vids. but broke my wrist.. so 2 months out.
@JOeSJNr No, this is not auto tune, Auto tune changes the pitch of peoples voices so they will be singing in the right key and chord. All this device do is to create chords of your voice.
@fishaman1980 That's great! I just spent my budget on a new guitar. Need to build another budget to buy this device. This is the best there is in the market right now, is it?
can you use the device with a lead guitar, saxophone, trumpet or any other lead instrument instead of a voice? would it be able to pitch correct the lead instruments in realtime and be able to add harmonies to them?
I like your video but during the song the different singers sing different notes, it's not one person drops a note and they all drop the same time and visa vursa. They change different notes during the song, some going higher and some going lower, etc... but either way, really nice voice and nice demo. I'd like to hear the rest of the song.
it uses the chords on the guitar to have the harmonies sing in tune... you could have harmonies but it won't stay in harmony unless your vocals are perfect pitch... and then I don't even know.
Wheatbrook.. the bass player get to croon us with those amazing bass rifts. I haven't tried playing the bass through the harmonizer.. it might be possible.
I think I'm going to go ahead and get one of these.... Just procrastinating,
Just bought myself a Digitech 2112 Studio guitar system, of course its just like anything from digitech, you need 6 m/o's of classes to operate it, but its amazing!
I think this one is easier, but you do want to tweak the sounds. I might do a demo on how to set it up, but i think others have it out there. I've got it going to my bose tower so that the harmony is on a different channel as well as the guitar. In this demo it's one speaker.
as long as it's a chord it works. It takes any chord and uses the vocals to keep it in key that the guitar is playing in. It would work with one string on an electric guitar. I'll have to work on making a demo.
I actually found one on Ebay for $400. I think the going rate is $400-$500 and there's a stripped down version that's a Vocalist 2 which is 2 part harmony for $200-$300. Musician's Friend, Guitar Center. It's fun to play around with.
yes it uses the guitar chords and changes the vocals accordingly. I think they are creating one for a piano. You could have a guitarist playing your harmonies saving those and using them. You just turn up the harmonies louder than the vocal and you've got 4 part harmony backup.

lol. I cant believe it!!! this is the lamest thing ever. People. take singing lessons and learn how to do harmonies on your own. To me the harmony still sounds fake.
I don't get paid by digitech so don't buy it. Musicians are always looking for ways to make the sound more interesting... this is no different. Why do you think there's so many stomp boxes for guitars. This is the same thing. All I know is that I can replace 4 singers with a device.. so that's it.
sweet... i know that there's some effects that I prefer and some that i won't use, but the harmony additions are so nice to punch up in a chorus to add to any song.
Some harmonizers actually process the harmony based on the vocals AND the guitar. Harmonizers that only process the harmony from the vocals can make mistakes. Processors that take guitar and mic inputs don't affect the guitar's sound, they just use the guitar for extra guidance when making the harmony.
Congratulations from Argentina. Simple song, good sample and a human voice, showing the right an clear harmonizer work. This video show us, that sometimes the more "simple" , is "more !instructive. Excellent.
Willy . (Al Sax and drumer from the ex CBS Columbia and Mandioca Records)
I have the digitech vocalist 4....but, I thought you could only use an electric guitar with it. Here I see you using an acoustic guitar and it works well. I tried it with an acoustic guitar using a Dean Markley slide in pick up, but it didn't work. So far I can only get it to work with my Gretsch Eelctrci guitar. Appreciate your comments.
I wonder if there was a problem with the connection. My buddy borrows the harmonizer all the time and he plays an acoustic as well. The other demos are using acoustic guitars too. The harmonizer picks up any chord the guitar is playing and adjusts the harmony to the chord played. It's pretty cool.
it has to plug in, meaning acoustic-electric. this kind of thing really is geared toward singer/songwriter types and acoustic solo bits, but if you're playing in that sort of genre an acoustic-electric guitar is pretty standard.
I really liked it and could easily replace all of the harmony singers I had with the praise team. I would kick on for choruses so that it added more depth to the song. It's a little weird to hear that harmony from one voice at first.
I actually found one from a company and because they specialize I got it for $400. There's a smaller version Digitech vocalist 2 that is even cheaper. I use to sing with a worship band and when I'd hit the harmony button on a chorus to give fullness of sound, the singers were looking at me like I had just replaced them.
The smaller version - $100- $150 cheaper and less harmonies.. It's two voices vs four voices. I'll try and make another demo with the harmonizer so you can hear some more things with it.
That sounds great. I was thinking about getting the rack mounted one that works with MIDI so you can use it like a vocoder, that is, sing into the mic and play notes on the keyboard and your voice comes out as those notes. I ended up getting an old model, the Vocalist VR, which does pretty much the same thing but the harmonies are not as human sounding. The 'Notes' mode which I mentioned does not work correctly, as I noticed when singing falcetto the pitch bends and distorts.
Hey praisedude. Please ignore some of the comments below. You have a great voice, style, timing and your pitch is fine as far as I am concerned. All the best from the UK!
I think I might.. I am thinking about the TC Helicon one though for Piano.
Honestly there was just a rough spot or two. That was kind of harsh. I would just open your mouth more when you sing. You have what seems like a pretty nice natural voice.
It was 1995 and it was *just* out. I remember playing the thing! Intelligent pitch shifters have been around a long time, the Digitech was the first that normal people could afford.
'donscaptvideo' - "I've been using a Digitech Vocalist since 1990" - ???
Also the Digitech Vocalsit 4 harmonizer, the unit the guy in the video is playing was not out then. Maybe A vocalizer was out but not the one in the vid.

Thanks, I'm inspired to do some more recordings to see what people think. I've enjoyed worshiping with the harmonizer because I get 4 part and sometimes 5 part harmony on songs, that pretty sweet in a chorus.
Hi Praisedude-I personally really enjoyed your demo!I've been using a Digitech Vocalist since 1990& theYcan sound simply awesome yet, as you already know, what goes in .comes out. Crap IN-crap Out-It's great when practiced & used right. Your version sounds so CLEAN. Don't make the same mistake I did when I stopped all my recordings the Lord was inspiring me with.2many people accused me of NOT even singing u know,it's not U,it's on tape.Tell your parishioners it makes the WHOLE CHOIR BETTER.
wow i really need to make another demo. I used the harmonizer alot during the worship service and some of the singers felt bad that the machine was taking their spot. I just thought it added more to the chorus part. I'll work on another clip.
i normally dont like this music, but i went to a demo of it at my local store and was amazed. the guy was like, ill be simon, and it'll be garfunkel and he did the other way round it was so cool
wow it was just away to show off the harmony on the digitech. There's this great guitar solo and my guitar abilities just lack. I'll consider doing it sometime.
If you play at church you have some amount of ability. Granted, many who sing at church cannot really sing. Record a song that you can manage. I'll show it in my Sunday School class.
Yes that's how it's done on my video. There's lots of abilities. At Church I actually send it to the DI Box so that I have a pure Guitar sound and then back into the Machine where I need it to for the notes. I use lots of differently melodies depending on whose singing with me.
I saw this cool device yesterday at my friends house. I was amazed by the quality of it. It makes you sound better than you really are, and I like that. Too bad its like 500$
Nice job. You should add "digitech vocalist 4 harmonizer" to your tags so people could actually find this video! The search only searches tags.. not titles.
Ok i'll change the tags. The harmonizer is funt to do and I use it to increase a chorus sound. It doesn't work as well without the guitar. Still working on a video of harmonizer alone.
That is pretty nice vocal work.

I'll work on another clip.

wow it was just away to show off the harmony on the digitech. There's this great guitar solo and my guitar abilities just lack. I'll consider doing it sometime.

If you play at church you have some amount of ability. Granted, many who sing at church cannot really sing. Record a song that you can manage. I'll show it in my Sunday School class.

agree. record the whole song. you sound GREAT.
peace out!

yes that's how my video is.

Yes that's how it's done on my video. There's lots of abilities. At Church I actually send it to the DI Box so that I have a pure Guitar sound and then back into the Machine where I need it to for the notes. I use lots of differently melodies depending on whose singing with me.

can you use this unit without having PA speakers? Can I hook it up directly to my guitar amp?

I saw this cool device yesterday at my friends house. I was amazed by the quality of it. It makes you sound better than you really are, and I like that. Too bad its like 500$

it does have some great abilities to add depth the sound. there's a smaller version for $300 and I got mine for $400

So THAT'S how country singers do it.
There was always something artificial I detected in their creepy-tight harmony.

wow...you even made my snare vibrate by listening to this

Nice job. You should add "digitech vocalist 4 harmonizer" to your tags so people could actually find this video! The search only searches tags.. not titles.
socomfan 4 years ago
I second that.
AustinBrister 4 years ago
Ok i'll change the tags. The harmonizer is funt to do and I use it to increase a chorus sound. It doesn't work as well without the guitar. Still working on a video of harmonizer alone.

Can you do one without the guitar and just talking through it? Would be nice to hear the full effect.

You can push a chord key that the song is in and it's suppose to follow the song. I'll try that on this song and post it without the guitar.

Great demo!

Yep this is the coolest Guitar - Vogel AME that has the best sound I've ever heard out of a guitar. The action is amazing up and down the fret board.
praisedude 4 years ago
Cool guitar. Is that a Vogel? ;-)
