  • it must have been freezing in that chappel

  • @kingpharaohtsar um, mate, im British and whilst i personally dont rly care eithr way, u r so wrong.

  • @MrAcosi Um, mate; I'm British and, whilst I personally don't really care either way, you are so wrong.

There, fixed. Also, to fix kinpharaohtsar's comment: 'This is Britain, no-one really cares about Christianity'.

  • lol i wonder how th hell they managed to rent that church to film THAT kind of sketch :)

  • @MrAcosi this is britian no 1 realy cares about relgion

  • I think this is my favorite sketch of theirs. It's so well written, it's insane.

  • At first, when Mitchell started talking, I was going "exactly". Then he mentioned Byron... I guess I knew form then on how it would end, but damn Mitchell... just... damn. You need help.

  • Checking miles on a clock and drawing a radius on a map, never thought of that. Brilliant!

  • Best one they've ever done I think

  • my aunt, she is very sick ;-(

  • Wow, Mitchell has some issues

  • Even vicars need to share.

  • can anyone tell in what episode this video were shown ?

  • @zastenoi Mitchell & Webb Situation Season 1 Episode 2

  • "I LOVE THAT PAIN BITCH BITCH PAIN LOVE BITCH!"

  • I thought I hated the overuse of laughter lines in comedy shows, however during this skit it felt very quiet without them, and i felt it hard to laugh....

  • I actually feel sorry for the vicar...

  • I love the breath steam.

  • Haha the bit at 2:19 with the sinister sound and the light on Mitchell's face

  • That was wonderful :3

  • Wohoo I was the 900th like!

  • i would so love to see the outtakes of this!

  • My favourite thing about this is the subtly of the comedy - how you can hear Webb running footsteps towards the end. genius.

  • This series was actually a fair bit better than their bbc one (though I like the bbc one as well) did they do more writing themselves on this one?

  • @thekingofgingers Might have had more people looking over their shoulders when they did the BBC one. Or just changed their style a bit.

  • David is a very good actor! I wish he'd do more serious acting as well. (Not that I don't love his comedy, I think it's brilliant! :D) ... By the way, is it really THAT cold in english churches?

  • @LuRawen Well a lot of them are 500-1000 years old (our older ones are usually ruins now), so the heating isn't exactly wonderful. If the romans hadn't left we probably would have had nice underfloor heating in a lot of them.

  • AAAAAAAAnd that's why he became a vicar.

  • David Mitchell's a pretty good actor, huh...

  • Whoa, pretty dark even for these guys. Still good though.

  • Comedic genious...these two have gone dark side and it suits them so well

  • the only problem that I see with the situation is that the priest is heterosexual

  • Hahaha...ha?

This was rather sad. Loved the writing though; I watched it twice to listen to it again.

  • Thats very deep! Brilliant!

  • I'm really sorry, Vicar, for all the pain I put you through. Marry me...

  • David Mitchell looks surprisingly hot in that vicar costume.

  • @SteinaIcelander Wow, you're right..... dayummm.... *drools*

  • @RichardForkins Yeah I also agree that in an odd way he is kind of cute as a vicar but ive always had a weakness for vicars mmmmm

  • @mrsdingaling31 Hahaha, I totally know what you mean ;)

  • I think it's amazing how many emotions this clip brought up in such a short time. At first it just seems like a normal sketch, then it tugs at your heart strings, then it tugs even more. It starts to get creepy, then that uncomforable-funny-creepy and at the end it's really sad. And I'm left feeling somewhat confused (emotionally speaking) and somewhat uneasy. Absolutely brilliant.

  • xD xD xD

  • I want to be friends with these two =(

  • holy shit, the end really did it for me

  • Brilliant!

  • @BraceletAccumulatrT2 I think you might be reading into this a bit too much I'm afraid. I think Robert is fidgeting because what the priest is saying is very particular and graphic and is meant to be making him uncomfortable. If anything I would have said that the priest is meant to be the one reliving his own experiences of love (and not davids either mind you). The last shot in particular suggests this by showing him sitting alone in the chapel.

  • A bit cold in the chapel, is it? Or is the vicar actually fuming?

  • @OneDragonmaster I thought the point was as his words got darker and colder, so did the atmosphere, literally, for comedic effect.

  • ...and glumly toss yourself off over that picture you stole that doesn't even do her justice...

...and there you lie, empty and panting...

  • so true

  • LOL CLASSIC. Like an excellent lyricist, this sktech drills in to the very core human emotion, which is probably a universial trait to every human being on this earth.....unrequited love or lust,,,its hard to tell the difference....

  • jesus that is so sad and really funny at the same time. really well put together

  • It must be really cold (or Mitchell just drank some tea) in there, you can see the Vicars breath.

  • They've edged along the bench as they were talking!

  • I actually feel sad for the Vicar. He clearly is depressed and for the most part appears to truly care about people. He's a nice guy with a broken heart. I think a lot of us can relate.

Then again, I've never said "She's a Bitch! Bitch! BItch!" to a complete stranger about a girl who doesn't return my affections. I may have said that to a 2L carton of ice cream but that's a story for another time.

  • LOL crazy vicar.

  • At first I was like: yeah, it's kind of like that, isn't it?

and then like: yeah, no, not really...

  • I fucking love youtube. I leave it for ages to buffer because on my 20Mb/s download speed I apparently get about 1Kb/s. So I come back, see that it's completely buffered. Click enlarge AND woohoo it's reloading in 480p.

    Fuck my life.

  • @GodSaidSoSoHa

    HAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @GodSaidSoSoHa You can turn that off in options.

  • @GodSaidSoSoHa

gtfo with your shitty internet. You're behind the times.

  • @shniblob I live in Korea and I have the same problem. If you're not familiar with internet in Korea, maybe you should catch up to the times first yourself.

  • @unbal3

Wait what? Korea, where StarCraft is basically a national sport, has shitty internet? Whaaa-?

  • @shniblob my sentiments exactly. 100 Mb/s internet, youtube loads at 23 kbps. FML!!

  • @GodSaidSoSoHa Live and learn buddy,

  • @GodSaidSoSoHa Let this be the biggest problem in your fucked life.

  • That looks remarkably similar to the chapel in Monty Python's Meaning of Life.

  • I think David Mitchell could play an magnificent super villain when he reacts like that. He is an amzing actor.

  • Glad to hear one without a laughter track for once.

  • 'Glumly toss yourself off!' Classic!

  • SHE'S A BITCH AND I LOVE IT I LOVE THAT PAIN BITCH BITCH PAIN LOVE BITCH

  • "She is a bitch, she is a bitch and i love her!!"

Lol i crack at that moment

  • He said chapel, therefore he's a priest.

  • @666deadman1988 Actually he said "chapel," and therefore he's a chaplain. The exchange indicates that the setting is the chapel of an Oxbridge college.

  • This works on multiple levels and OHMYGOD I cant believe I just said that.

  • and after this moment the vicar becomes the iratble, evil, rude person who are still vicars!

  • I found TMAWL hilarious, but this is surprisingly unfunny. Clearly some of you find it "deep" or "dark" or whatever, but I don't get it. Different strokes I guess.

  • Ah yes, cold churches where you can see your own breath, i remember it well.

  • I love the situation. The look has some great sketches but with the BBC mandatory laughter track you couldn't do anything this dark.

  • Thx guys. Yeah reading the description would have saved some time

  • This video is my anti-wnak drug.

  • This is more sad than funny.

  • Ahhhhhhhhh...

David looks so sad I actualy feel sorry for him...

    Hee hee.

  • Where the hell is the laugh track!??

  • This is funny at first, but it turns so desperately sad and hopeless that it becomes some sick, deeply twisted modern version of a Thomas Hardy poem. It makes a good point about what people think of as "stalkers", too: should we feel sorry for them, if they percieve their actions as "loving"?

This is Mitchell and Webb at their very best; hilarious and tragic and thought-provoking.

  • Brilliant writing !

  • This might be one of my favourite Mitchell and Webb sketches ever. It is so beautifully acted and shot. With extra points for David's acting, which is just amazing.

  • The dialogue is vibrant and rich with compelling poetry. I was quite impressed with this!

  • very dark. Love it!

  • that was fantastic xD

  • is it me or does the Vicer seems a little bit put-out. i dont know, i'm not anglican. Jesus thought it was funny though and thats whats important.

  • "Engelby" anyone?

  • @bebemochi Yeah!!!

  • Genius...

  • This sketch basically sums up my life

  • must be cold in there, i can see their breath

  • MASONS!

  • haha yeah "we all saw you, and we thought you were a dick"

  • she is a bitch and i love it!!! hahaha

  • I thought at the beginning when he was saying how it's horrible to love someone but get nothing in return, that he was going to say that's how God feels

  • beautiful, dark, poetic comedy ....

  • well he's not goin to church again.

  • Whoa. Just whoa.

  • Nice subtle touch, the footsteps getting faster at the end.

  • perhaps this is true...but a true vicar or priest lives for something more than selfish love,,,,they live to help people...they are shepards,,,to help us.

  • either that or sodomize our children... cant seem to remember which one of the two :P

  • @dchris1990 only sheep needs a shepard

  • @MaikUniversum - and you watched this why? Baaaaa?

  • @MaikUniversum Only bad talker needs english class. Learn make good usage. Come then talk us.

  • @MaikUniversum

And only the youtube type in all lowercase letters with not punctuation. Err, or, something of that. Ok, never mind.

  • @TheLichens yes, I typed shepherd wrong.

  • @MaikUniversum

    amen to that

  • @MaikUniversum Only dead fish swim with the stream

  • @Noahboah234 If I may ask, what does that mean? :P

  • haha you actually believe that anyone can be 100% altruistic and selfless

  • haha you're a cynic.

  • shepherd

  • Dark Humour

  • Why are all you people giving us your philisophical thoughts on it? We don't care! We don't watch to know what the thinky people think...

  • Speak for yourself, I find it interesting to hear other peoples thoughts, that's why we have comments.

  • ....which is why he became a priest in the first place!

  • love the breath fogging up that makes the scene all the more scary

  • The humor in The Mitchell and Webb Situation is darker and grittier than anything. This particular sketch deals with subject matter that may make the audience uncomfortable, i.e. unrequited love. It pokes fun at certain feelings that society writ large isn't really at ease dealing with. The humor is more in their presentation than content. The contents are quite painful as you said, but the fact that a priest is saying it is ironic and the bluntness of it makes it even more unexpected.

  • I thought he was a vicar.

  • I was thinking that it was more metaphoric, in that, if you related the "bitch" that he's referring too as the dogma of religion?

  • @Fiestycadavers

yeh, the kind of thing we don't often see on Television, along with all the other plastic detritus of this false 'perfect' existence we are meant to lead. It brings out the insecurities we're meant to repress but in a humerus way.

  • @Fiestycadavers .....thank you, that was......uninteresting, to say the least....

  • @biggie558 Hahah yes indeed

  • It's humour, yet not humour... dark... It looks at the truth from an unexpected angle...

  • @llcdrdndgrbd I can think of a few examples of sketches without specific punchlines that only work to achieve making the audience feel a little uncomfortable. There was a comic relief sketch a while back, with Alan Partridge interviewing a guy who was one of the Milky Bar kids (played by Simon Pegg). It was hilarious, but the audience didn't laugh much because there wasn't alot to laught at. Both the performances and delivery were excellent, much like this here.

  • This remind anyone else of James Joyce's "Araby"? What with the recurring religious themes as well as unrequited love.

  • I know this is just going to get me mocked, but the vicar is kind of telling my story. At least i can look back on a storybook college romance

  • LOL

  • uhmm...right

  • 2:18 - 2:32 is a strange mix of both touching yet creepy

  • 2:32 - 2:41 LMAO

The rest is quite sad :(

  • I love this sketch! I hope they wrote most of Situation, coz its so much more dark and funny compared 2 Look & Sound - buy the DVD - its totally worth it

  • This sketch inspired me to buy the DVD. Very, very good.

  • Awkward!

  • inane

  • Forget those poems and romantic films. THIS is true love.

  • And actually, in a strange way, this sort of sums up love and the mad turbulance of it all. Especially when the vicar is just sort of left alone at the end.

  • Haha, oh wow, this is brilliant. I love it - it's like a better Mitchell and Webb look without a laughter track to boot.

  • i forgot to rate, favorite and subscribe, least i commented. BITCH and i love it!

  • i love this sketch (Y)

  • Really funny. I love this show!

  • funny but sad

  • mitchell and webb situation

  • @annata12: Thou shalt read the description. :p

  • @annata12 Mitchel and Webb Look

  • It would have been perfect the sketch had ended with the vicar wimpering the words "Jesus loves me".

  • lol, so true!

  • it's a great sketch, in a twisted, dark way. Not the "touching cloth" kinda of vingette, but good all the same.

  • LMAO

one of my favourite M&W sketches <3

  • She's a bitch and I love it!

  • Strangely intriguing, isn't it?

  • ...well...that was weird.

  • aww-u can see his breath misting!

    SHES A BITCH!

    -

  • British comedy

  • is better than any american shiit!!!

  • LMAO.. toss urself at her pic!

  • It's darkly funny, but scares me at the same time!

  • These guys are funny; just discovered them today.

  • I thought this would be the opposite of their bad vicar sketch, but I was wrong.

  • Wow

  • very cold. replace a statue of jesus with an electric heater, i bet it will improve morale.

  • This 'situation' stuff towers above their bbc work.

  • nice confession.

  • lol this is ridiculous
