  • Amazing

  • This is from 1993? WOW! That must be f**king state of the art back then!

  • they stole this from bmw z1

  • where are the door pockets/compartments? no where to put pens and crisp packets

  • how do you roll your windows down? looks kinda odd...

  • more f-in electrics on the car and more f-in faults

  • WTF! THIS IS COOL!! but... what if the battery dies? lol

and the inside dont have arem rest and look like itll tear easily

  • wow ....

  • so... you lose your armest and window controls just to look cool? weak...

  • What if I just wanna get out of the car in movement, like the movies??? And don't mention the door handles ¬¬

  • could you imagine stepping out and getting clocked in the nuts with that cus of a short... ouch

  • and what is with the side airbags??

  • so the door is just an outter skin not reinforced for impact? and can you let the window down without the door opening? it is kind of cheap looking from the inside

  • that hella sick design but the door panels suck still i would mind having them... makes any car look exotic

  • it looked better in the documentery...

  • WTF THIS IS REAL?!

  • watte fock!

  • watte fock! :gum:

  • I'm with 1981, it looks nice as hell on the out, cheap as hell on the in. this is a protoype, then make it do that plus have all the things that a car door have, and just in case something goes wrong, make it so that you still can open the door the other way,, heck how can you even let the window down from the inside

  • @moveupnotdown could be like a Saturn, window switches are between the seats...

  • If you really wanted you could make this work. Could you fit side airbags, speakers and some decor and still make it thin enough?

  • imagine if you were in a hurry lol you'd be like come on just shut!! in that time you could have slammed a normal car door shut and be on your way

  • I need a door that will prevent me from getting wet when I am trying to furl an umbrella. You guys can keep this. Make sure you don't have any papers on the back seat, the wind will take it away.

  • yea I'd like to know as well, what happens if your battery is dead?

  • @Cityj0hn like every ford , it came with a hammer !

  • @gotcha671

    haha :)

  • Thers a hude down side to it. It makes the interior llook like shit.

  • I actually work for the guy who owns this car, only 1 in the entire world that drives. I sat in it last night, the thing is so comfortable. The driver side door is currently broken, and stuck down, so it cannot be driven now (nor do I think he would want to), but it was cool sitting in one of the most unique cars in the world!

  • and when u get in, there isn't enough electricity to fire up the car, how lovely :)

  • thats a ugly desing for the interior. i dont buy it.

  • Looks good but not a good idea. Can you show me a video in the rain or snow? Just want to know( can guess now) what happens. What about a power failure? How much to repair, better yet where? Be good in a sci-fi movie even on this video but practical use in everyday life I think it fails.

  • I think this is the first step of building a real life working Transformer.

  • yuuuk the inside looks like a shower curtain, naaasty.

Outside looks cool though, still prefer lambo doors

  • stupid! what happens if ur in a emergency situation and u got to get away from someone really fast before they get to ur car i mean in normal doors u could have the door shut locked and the car in drive already taking off before that P.O.S even responds to the remote or switch or whatever

  • @fordtruckrule you don't make any sense. How is this different from getting away in any other vehicle? you still have to open and close the door. The door being open doesn't mean you can't drive away.

  • @fordtruckrule Uhh, how often has that happened in your life? I think that for most people not living in Liberty City, it would not be a big drawback.

  • @ELuhn its happen to me twice fucker

  • @fordtruckrule Can't imagine why. You sound like a very charming person.

  • how do you roll the window down and not have the whole door open?

  • @dnioll Press the electric window button?

Pffft, You modern guys with your fancy electronics.

It say's on the old adverts for my Wolseley that it has wind down windows, in 1967 that was actually a selling point.

If your wondering what a Hornet is look up the original Mini, it's a variant with a bigger boot and more luxury options.

  • @G1NZOU well if the car door goes in the bottom of the car would they still have it like that?

  • @dnioll Like what?

  • @G1NZOU with the window controls there

  • @dnioll You took my comment seriously.

I was joking, my car doesn't have any electronic components, no aircon, radio, power steering or power windows.

The funny thing I find is we keep adding more and more stuff to cars, this means more weight which means more energy is required to move them around, despite having an old BMC A-series engine my Wolseley is very efficient and a pleasure to drive, handles like the Mini it is.

  • @dnioll This is cool though, although being a classic car nut I do like futuristic cars like the Lexus from Minority Report and the Audi from i-Robot.

  • You know how your car window winders always stuff up and the windows are stuck down? Imagine driving to work with your door down!

  • o snap my batterys dead

  • Sooooo.

    James bond !

  • Try opening the doors in top of a hump.

or, or... while it's raining really rough...

  • autobots roll out!

  • what happens when your battery dies and you cant get out of your car?? that would suck dick...

  • And what happens when the car got hit at the side?

  • it will not work anymore douche... its logic -_-

  • @helike13 What happens if you get hit on your head? Do people actually think before they post stupid questions?..

  • you die in your car

  • @ajskdlf534 I think if your engine is runing your baterry vould not die, right ?!

so you can get ou of your car. But you are right about the bateri if it runs out vhen you want to get in ;)

  • @Attilau11 Nope, If your alternator stops working, your batt would most defiantly go dead.

  • @ajskdlf534 I don't think it would be terribly hard to equip it with a manual release for such instances.

  • @ajskdlf534 I don't think it would be terribly hard to equip it with a manual release for such instances.

  • @ajskdlf534 Dude, its not some honda civic, its a lincoln, they thought of that lol. I havn't looked into it myself but besides the point that in order for them to loose all battery power is if someone lets it sit for a very long time. A simple but very effective safety feature could include a smaller back up battery. You want have to worry about getting out of them until there 20+ years old lol

  • @noobtonthe3rd BMW had a car in the 80s or 90s that had a similar design

  • @SuperAnimekid The BMW Z1. It was similar, but the doors just retracted straight down. I love the Z1, fantastic car.

  • @HonestJack Yeah thank you for the life of me I could not remember the name of that car lol.

  • its for lazy ppl, and its aa shitty ford

  • @noobtonthe3rd ... Like most automatic devices, there easily can be backup methods, like a rechargeable battery built into the door (like your mobile phone battery and it can stay charged by solar or braking energy recovery); or, it can have a mechanical release like elevator doors, etc. Creativity goes a long way when we don't try to force past knowledge to limit us.

  • @ajskdlf534 i think it has manual windows

  • drive with them open a cop stops u and go like wheres ur door?

  • no thanks !

i didn't get a corvette because it had an electronic button on the door instead of a normal handle.

i would certainly never get a car with THIS door.

  • @E63isback

I'd suspect that if the window didn't do down, it would stick out the side and get broken off.

I feel sorry for you, because you are probably a very miserable person who hasn't a thing to be happy about.

  • @HunterXray haha the car is a piece of shit why would i be miserable over that? just because you like it doesnt mean everyone else has to. just because someone says its a piece of shit doesnt make them miserable. stupid people

  • amazing

  • so why doesn't this exist anymore?

  • @TheTrendi52 i'm guessing weight and ride height qualities.

  • it dosent pass the safety crash norm tht's the main raison, and plus u lose the option of operating the window, the door speakers are removed aswell and not forget hte esthetic appearance from in side looks like curtains so thts why mainly its not produced.

  • @dzaldin

Look closer; the window works just fine!

Speakers can be moved to the dash or "kick panels." The curtain thing and safety issue still stand, though; maybe make a retractable bar that slides horizontally into the trunk?

  • I've read about this door, it acctually has more crash resistance than a normal door and if you run out of juice it can be opened manually.

  • if you have to open and close the window fully everytime you get out, the window wouldn't last too long, but it looks cool anyway.

  • how ill to get in or out if your car has a flat battery

  • i'm concerned about how much space the mechanism needs from the side. when you get out in a cramped parking lot this could automatically damage another car as opposed to when a human operates the door ( opening this type of door manually might be a different consideration ).

  • Watch the video again... the door mechanism doesnt use more space than the sidemirrors...

  • @kentoldhoj

well it's true that the mirrors don't go down too but i think it actually does stick out further than the mirrors at 0:04. could hit a car parked next to it. maybe some kind of safe bump sensor would be good.

  • @kentoldhoj

maybe it would be interesting if the car door was completely round and so would not have to stick out.

  • WHAT HAPPENS IN A SIDE IMPACT CRASH..?

  • @THEmuppett the door comes flying in at the passenger :D

  • From the outside it looks pretty cool! But from the inside, the door looks cheap and ugly!

  • @schapenkeutel1981 well, it is a prototype... I'm sure if it takes off, they'll dress it up a bit. I know I want one... :)

  • where dos the window go?

  • WTF

  • I'd funny to get into this car when you run out of battery XDDD

  • well that would maybe happen if you were to open/close it a 100 times befor getting in.

  • @Princeoftheprotoss

I mean if you leave the car parked and after a few months you come back and the battery is discharged. You wouldn't be able to open the car until you replace the battery...

  • o okey.

  • easily solved with a crank handle under the car.

  • good point lmao

  • This would be excellent for persons in a wheelchair trying to get into their car without dinging up the door in the process.

  • Do want.

  • thats fucking sweet!!!!! always good to see something different

  • person in passenger seat:wheres the door handle?

Driver:*chuckles and drives to barn. far far away*

  • AHAHAHA

    Aw man that was good!

  • That's pretty innovative

  • that would be cool as shit for a show car

  • Трансформер ЁПТ

  • ok how du u open the windows?..

  • dude thats sick

  • actually, its really not a big deal. jeep wranglers have easily removable doors and they're not required to drive on the road (at least they didn't used to be). regardless of that, if your dumb ass wears a seat belt you will be fine.

  • where can i buy these

  • Seems to me safety is not an issue. The doors could be blocked from opening over 5 MPH, and the car could be made to not move if the doors are open. Such a simple concept, too bad folks can't see beyond the problem.

Only thing I can't see yet, is the problem of lack of arm rests or other features in the door. Space is a premium in a car, so loosing the buttons, rests, speakers, etc seems like a problem to be overcome in the future.

  • The arm rest is on the seat

  • dude people drive with out doors all the time! look atr jeeps

  • people are so lazy these days.

  • You never pressed a button unpurposely? Imagine that you press the opening button accidentally or there is a short-circuit? When i said "If you can open the door while you drive" i should have wrItten "If the door open by itsself" You maybe thinking that's impossible but I think it's possible!

  • If you can open the door while you drive, it's suicidal and shouldn't be legal for your safety! Imagine if you press the button unpurpose! Ouch!

  • why would you open it while driving? If you do decide to do that you deserve to die.

  • wow.. u can drive with no door..

  • If there is an electrical problem and they dont open, you can be trapped inside.

  • its ugly and unsave and your battery is low very quik

i dont think this is it know way and if its older you get troubles with it

give me a car with suicide doors love that like the rolls roys phanthom

  • when you learn to spell your vote will count.

  • heey im not a fucking american stryctN9NE so i dont care if its spell wrong you know what i mean

and if you wright dutch you make mistakes to...

  • ugly is all a matter of taste

some people prefer porsches over ferarri's

and i dont see that killing your battery unless you sit there opening and closing them for hours on end. they could also run a dual battery system

as for unsafe, how is it any different from a normal door? its not lik the door is a sheet of fibreglass

  • Wait until that thing breaks in the down position! Then you gotta drive to work in 30 degree weather looking like a fool!

  • Remember guys. This is a prototype and so they left out all the fancy add ons in order to show you the door better.

  • you buy it on ebay:)

  • Horrible door inserts!! No armrest etc?

  • id hate to get my hand stuck in that thing

  • it would be great if a woman driver hit your doors in a supermarket! can you imgine the repair costs

  • why a woman

  • Tacky door interior

  • The door idea is interesting, but has flaws. If the battery dies and you're in the vehicle, you're trapped unless it has a crank or emergency release. Because it has motors that lower the door, it will require more maintenance in upkeep. Eventually, the doors may even break and who's going to fix it? I'm also concerned over side crash strength of these doors. Slide up manual gull wings (which eliminate the above issues) are a better solution in addressing the same issues.

  • That's probably why it was a prototype and never manufactured in a production car. =)

  • DELOREAN!

  • DeLorean used manual gull-wings, like the Mercedes C-111 and the DeTomasa Pantera. The windows didn't open all the way, but at least you got arm rests.

  • That's the same problem public transit buses had. Since the motor needs to be running for the doors to open and close. The fix? Manual release handles, such as your garage door would have. It would require about the same amount of work as actually opening the door, but would only be used rarely.

  • i wonder if it has a sensor so u dont cut ur arm off in there... i can see someone accidentally getting caught in the door and seriously injured.

  • Same concept as automatic windows. Pressure sensors would know if anything was restricting the door from opening or closing.

  • whaw!!!

  • i would like to see how do this doors respond in a side crash . . .

  • really VERY unsafe without the normal basic/center column. part of the skeleton of the car!

  • 0_o LOL that would be awesome in the summer, suck in the winter though XD

  • nice cheap fabric door panel! That really makes me want one of these!

  • thats just the intirior

    its basicly a garage door

  • Bad decision for northen countries in winter and for mud roads like in Russia, Ukraine...Door will not work.

  • i dont understand why it wouldnt work.. unless u invented it.. and that i doubt!

  • Only in America. Now you can fit an even fatter and lazier American into a car.

  • As an American.... sad but true. I don't get it.

  • Going to banks just got easier haha

  • it sold on ebay

  • wow i want that!!!

  • how the fuck????

  • a whole lot of wickedness,

  • fuck me we dont have annything like that in the uk nice one man

  • uk is cheap jajajajajaja

  • nice!little halariouse

  • if u dont get pussy wit da car yo..

  • WHAT THE FUCK!!

  • You could easily get a really fat chick in that ride.

    Nice.

  • lol yeah

  • your funny

  • did every one just see what i just saw haha

  • thats so sick how did you do it

  • wow! a coupe for the physically challenged. but no room for the wheelchair...

  • holy shit madd

  • so what happens if you run out of battery?

  • Feck that shit when im older i gonna get me one of them babies NOW N SHIT""" BAD BOI INDA HOUSE!!

  • Okay I give you that, you got skills, can I ask a few questions, do you do conversions on other cars too, what car is it that you did it on, I tried to look for info online but can't find any - can you help me out and check it out, Thanks

  • is it road legal, as it seems some(or all) of the interior door structure was removed, thus greatly reducing side impact safety? very cool though

  • just like transformers!!! haha

  • Hi, is there some kind of documentation on this? i'd like to see how this works.

  • Yes. Check description for patent information.

  • Holy cow.. nice work

  • HOLY WTF ??? lol i thought that was some transformers shit right there .... sucks no inside detail though :/

  • would you be interested in being paid to modify another car that way? if so email me at teddylab@...gmail......com
