i would love to see her blow through benson nc the track limit here is 79 mph for passenger and i think its the same for freight imma have to check on that one though but i know for sure its 79 for passenger
@darkhound891 they would probably keep her down at 65. The loco picks up a terrible harmonic at 70mph that just rattles the hell out of the loco crew. It's so bad it shakes them from their seat.
@PereMarquette1223 but when it is, you know it! That air horn is fucking, loud! You just have no idea. And origonally the steam whistle was mounted under the cab and used only for communication with train crew and/or a second unit. In all other cases the air horn would have been used. The steam whistle also didn't have a pull chord, it was actuated by an air driven solenoid and could not be played.
Wow, I can't believe I missed this... I bike there all the time and told myself after I missed the CP Empress last year that I'd be on the lookout... Where does one find the dates and times for these excursions?
All I can say is WOW! Those diamonds seem to be in better repair that the ones at Calumet Junction in East Chicago, IN. A train crossing them at 30-40mph makes so much racket that your ears literally hurt. At 60mph one would probably end up deaf. :)
Great shot!!! from Newman

Diesal's have horns, Steamers have whistles (although #4449 does have a 1940's air horn, which isn't used much).

Thats the whistle, not the horn. 4449 has both. So please don't confuse the 2
