On my new machine had that same problem. Lock the portafilter tight, seeing as you plan on replacing the gasket anyway may as well make it travel the distance ;)
Its the gasket, you can tell because the portafilter isnt square on to front of machine, its on angle. i had same problem and fixdd it with a new gasket.
I have the same issue (different machine, but same leaks). I have replaced the gasket, and back flushed my machine to clean out any residue. I found the only thing that helps is to change your grind setting. 8 seems a bit too fine and when you pack it tight it leads to the over-spill. Try going to 9 or 9.5 and applying the same pressure when tamping. Also, the beans make a difference as well, try a different type of roast/freshness and play with the grind setting as well. Its a labor of love.
