That's insane, just ran across this clip, and it reminds me of an idea I have.. I want to get a wakeboard, a pick-up truck with a pole attatched, and a ski-rope, three cameras, one for my helmet one for the pole and one operator hand held.. well I'd use the irrigation canal behind my house (Alberta, Canada) and ski thru it, worst part is it's only three feet wide by a foot deep.. then a pipe ramp to dismount.
No, but Stan Kasica and I did this again FL along the St. Johns River. Stan, an expert water skier, got a bit heavy on the ski and went for a brief swim in the St. Johns. If there was a way to get moving, I'm sure it could be done. The amount of pull to keep you going is well under our max thrust.
I always thought about doing this, I just don't have the money to buy enough propellers. I bet yours didn't look too good after that take off and all the water it sucked!!
Oh Jeff! I didn't notice that was you n the video! You may not remember me, we were in touch a couple of times quite a few years ago when I moved frm Buenos Aires to Chicago sometime between 98 and 02. Still flying for SW? I ended up working for Delta in management and fly crj200 for ASA. Still in Chicago? I should take my motor up and go fly with you, I still have family there.
All I want to know is, how many times did you drop the ski before you got it right? :-) Those water ski's are not the lightest thing made. Okay in the water, but out of the water and
nick.... and jeff what kind of example are you setting here lmao.... what happens if the motor quits? ( risk and reward) hahaha see u all at the paratoys fly in at salton sea
If the motor quits? The water is, at most, 6 inches deep. These were puddles formed after torrential rains. If the motor quits, he'll have some walkin' to do!
must do wonders for the propellor
good video I enjoyed it

Much like sand -- the prop isn't happy with this treatment!

This seems like a good way to die. If the motor killed you could be drowned quite easily it seems. Be careful mate.

@bendystix
These were puddles left after a particularly wet thunderstorm--the water was no more than 6" deep. If he drowned in that he's got bigger problems!

@jeffgoin Good to know then!

flying machines are awesome! but it will never go fast enough for waterskiing on 1 ski...maybe two might work, but bad idea if you crash

Water is hard on props but nowhere near as bad as sand.

Is there a chance if the wind is maybe 15mph or more you wouldn't need the motor? Brilliant Idea!!!!!

That "swamp" was no more than 8" deep. Prior to that day's heavy rain, it was plowed crop land. What's sticking up is corn stubble.
He'd have been muddy, yes, drowned, no.
jeffgoin 4 years ago
if that motor locked up over that swamp your a boat anker. do you have a quick release?

hehe, fricken guarantee its one of those things that looks 1000000 times easier than it really is.
Well done!
