Ha ha, my bird is joining in now. She's a rainbow lorikeet and a great little singer, she hasn't got the blues scales as sussed as this blue though. Her favourite is the mexican hat song, which is a lot like the theme to Deliverance.
This bird is a genius,,,,he is actually singing a counter melody to the piano and in several different keys, at that. [ Most music writers find this a challenge] Amazing.
There have been a few birds that have been involved in the blues. In 1928 Blind Racing Pigeon cut 2 sides for Vocalion I Can Fly All Night Long & Nagging Budgie Blues. In 1937 Tiny Sparrow recorded Early Bird Boogie. Post war Chicago saw an early electric band composed of all birds featuring on Beak Harp The Black Raven their best known recording was Key to the Airway. Their album 'Live At The Eagle' is very rare and very good.

brilliant! The Cockatiel is just brilliant! Give him some extra food from me. I hope you will post more vids like this of him. If so, please inform me when it is online.
he gets it. pretty good. my wolf dog used to do that sometimes when i play blues guitar but even more if i played the harp. makes some dogs howl. agree about the cage. good job on the piano. parrot looks somewhat hawklike.
Hey Avi Dear , really long to see you , my Friend Eli Marcus has a question; Do You change Birds when You change Keys ??? Love Avner Strauss , P.S Can I hire the Birdie for some gigs ..
This is wonderful!! I totally believe that birds - especially cockatiels - have the capacity to create and appreciate music, and this is proof. Thank you for posting it. Does (or did) he sing just as well in other keys, or in response to music played in other keys?
I'm sorry to hear that Avi! Maybe he should have some blues time so put him in the little cage when you're teaching kids to play piano. His teeny little ears need to be retrained.
The bird is wonderful and a nice singer for sure. Please treat him with some love and get him a proper cage at least 3 times the size of that one. That cage is way too small for a cockatiel. Let Avi know, get him one as a gift maybe?
there are stories about eric dolphy playing duets with birds in his backyard on 36th st. in los angeles. as a flute player, i've played with them too. they are great teachers and it is very humbling to play with them. they appreciate music also. it's great when they listen, and kinda turn their head to hear.
My Senegal parrot likes to dance, duck and cluck to the blues and latin rhythms, but she can't sing like this cockatiel! This is a real lesson in improvisation.
ok that bird is fantastic. One thing why is he not imitating the piano. He is doing it as a whistel? did someone teach him the other half with a whistel?I love it anyway 5*****
He is very talented. Please please get him a bigger cage and let him out to fly around the house maybe sit on top of piano. My Cockateil has a large cage and is free to fly around the house all day. He fly s back in at night. He eats broccoli, carrot, treats and millet and is very happy.
Hey, how 'bout some props for that piano player, huh? Not since the days of the young Willie "Beanpole' Wilson have I heard such volatile... All joking aside, the bird is truly amazing. Do you happen to know where he gets his reeds?
Yeah but he started to run out of ideas the last chorus and completely missed the DIM7 change in the 6th bar of the last chorus! (Just kidding. That truly is amazing.)
What amazes me the most is that this little avian is improvising and extemporizing. It could easy be that he's been trained to whistle exact notes, but it doesn't sound that automated. It is too pure to believe. I am very impressed OBOSHI!
I'd like to hire your bird as front bird for our band. He will be paid ona peanut to gig ratio of 300 peanuts to one gig? I realise I'll need to go through his agent. Would it be possible for him to learn Weather Reports 'Birdland'?!

This is hilarious and awesome, he's actually performing a vocal solo just like that... amazing.
AMAZING!

@Jouwl ...you're correct. He's singing a vocal solo that's a diatonic compliment of the piano. This bird knows music theory?!
