@2AP4Yoo I think you are confusing Iraq with Afghanistan, as there is no oil to speak of coming out of Afghanistan. There are countless reasons why people joined the Taliban, most of which out of fear as to what the Taliban will do to their family if they don't than the US occupation. The reason the US is there is to prevent Afghanistan from becoming one big terrorist training ground like it was before, liberation would be nice but that is not the primary reason, oil certainly is not the reason.

@2AP4Yoo War was declared on the country where Bin Laden was being harbored. He wasn't in Saudi Arabia or Yemen at the time, he was in Afghan. If oil is the reason for the war, why is barely any oil coming out of the country? The same goes for Iraq, barely any oil is coming out of there either. If oil was the reason, you would think there would be tanker trucks right behind the invading tanks, but that wasn't the case. Oil is an easy scapegoat for war, but its much more complex than that.

Oil was obviously a high enough priority for cheney to assign an energy task force in the first cabinet meeting. From an economic perspective, US is to have dominant military control of the region where oil is most abundantly produced. In the energy task force that was set up just prior to 9/11 included oil companies given rights to drill. You can't refute the fact oil was good enough reason for war.
