Runs smoothly because running linux is like running nothing. Linux is very primitive, this is why we use it as Server. Its simple, it only does the job we asigned to it. It is not qualified as Desktop SO because this only supports old or shitty hardware. This is why Mac's hardware is carefully selected, at least Mac is decent.
Is it stable to play games on the virtual windows? For example steam with counterstrike on it. If I run some heavier programs like photoshop on it, will it lag? 'Cause these are the only reasons I still have a grub dual boot system with windows. Should I change to VirtualBox, or is it better to stick to the dual boot system if I want to keep both OS optimal?
Anyone know how to get an iPod to work with iTunes in a VirtualBox on Ubuntu 10.10? I installed the USB 2.0 extensions; enabled the usb 2.0 controller, and added the iPod filter.......still nothing. I plug my iPod in and it still won't recognize it.
what does linux do?? because i want to run a program on my PC, (i have windows 7) but the program i want to use is exclusively for mac computers. will linux help me do that or what?? can i switch back at any time back to windows?? anyone pllllz help thx!
I have a little question ... can i combine the linux (compiz fusion) effects with Windows7 ? *sorry for my bad english' ... and yes im a linux n00b^^
woah thats so cool you have to help me get this so i download this file and i can run it if i save something using windows on ubuntu will it save? can i play games using it?
Install guest addition. After pushing ctrl+f wait for a while (on my laptop it takes a few moments to go fullscreen). You may also need to set xp screen resolution according to youyr screen (1024x768 in my case)
Thanks i just figured it out, if yours still has black aroound the edges press "right ctrl " and "g" at thesame time and it should fill up the whole screen, without blackmoutlining it.
XP probably runs more stable on a virtual machine under linux really.. if you think about it, all the hardware used in virtual machines is like 20 year old shit with perfect drivers.
Hey I'm installing XP Pro on vbox but during the installation wizard my mouse wont work in side vbox. I tried to uncapture but it doesnt work. any help?
excuse me how do you make programs work on virtual box like example i have 1 gigabyte of music and i want to play it on itunes in xp will it hold the data or do i have to always download the music from my external hardrive?
well... xp on Vbox is a normal, regular operating system. You can do everything you normally doing. Like installing, deleting, saving files whatever. Basically - you can use your XP on VB exactly the same way as usual.
@helicoptered i agree with you because i also love linux. but on the other hand if Microsoft dies who will make the PC games. most games out right now are for windows, and run best in windows
@SonicHeadK240 it's not when you used it for a while, windows uses installers to make life easy, for most part it's sudo apt-get install, some times you need to add dependancies, plus they made the whole thing easier with package managers
yes man fucking shit, i tryed to install xp but it doesnt let me even after HD full formatting. the fucking blues screen appears everytime, damn fucking microsoft dumm asses. and this video isnt helping a shit, i installed virtualbox and i thought after installation of xp os, i can run xp separately and not over ubuntu...
@MCneun Well, you can run XP seperate, you format drive, install WIndows XP 1st, then get the alternate version of Ubuntu (text line installer) ISO from Ubuntu site, burn to CD with img burn or an iso burner of your choice, boot from the CD, and follow the textline installer. It'll detect you have Windows XP installed, and ask you to partition the drive (I usually use half). It as option to install a GRUB chain boot loader, so you can select if you want to either boot into Ubuntu or Windows XP
Mainly for the few programs that don't have Linux-compatible versions. I use Virtual Box Windows, personally, for FL Studio and games, and those .exe's that Wine doesn't want to run sometimes.
89rafa: OH COME on...you gotta be joking xD Almost all of the 'big' Linux -distros are way better than any Microsoft OS, BUT, what about the software? WINE isn't perfect (yet). It isn't useless, silly you!
I'm Running Ubuntu 7.10 Now. got the virtual Machine installed. trying to get Vista VM installed. since its the only bootable disc i have. other os discs are copies and they wont boot

Very impressive! But why not to create a partition for each OS? What happens if you add a flash disk? Do both OSes access it simultaneously?

quick overview how Virtual Box works.
1.-create an OS name and settings(not the OS itself)
2.-let u boot the OS from a disk( yes u need the disk of the OS u r about to install)
3.-no need to erase hard disk ( very useful)
4.-run applications for various OS without having to erase hard disk, keep in mind, u need to OS installation disk.
hope it helped :)

Every time after kernel upgrade -you Have to run the command "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" as root to re-setup the kernel module.

nothing happens when i paste that in run(alt+f2)...

First of all: run it in terminal (on ubuntu: applications->accesories->terminal)
Second: Run it as root (In ubuntu:
