  • Thanks for your comments. Insulation beneath the bag would be required whether you are using a survival mylar-type bag, or any other kind of bag. This bivvy is superior to other types of survival bags that do not have the ability to trap air within the matrix of the bag itself. Issued extensively to military forces operating in cold environments, it has enjoyed great success for its purpose. Its compact size and warmth to weight ratio make it ideal for survival situations.

  • the jacket and sleeping bag would make for an interesting review and actual below freezing test. the only potential issue with the bag, is the fact that the insulation properties do not work well without trapped air, so if you are laying in snow it's not going to be very effective. as an emergency survival item it should work fine especially as a car survival kit. in wisconsin the winter weather can be well below zero, and this could save your life in the car
