I wish I had never sold the Twin 12 I once had... I never got to pair it with my '77 Greco LP Std. Phatt breakup there. Sloopy blues reminds me of Jack White, who used the 6x12 version of this amp. Rawk Awn!
I love these amps for what they do, but they are like the Rickenbacker 360 of the amp world, IMO--total one-trick pony. You like acid rock? Sweet. You like Brit. Rock? Too bad.
I have one, and I love it! Had it for about 15 years now! Reverb sucks, the tremolo is too fast, but crank it, and it just spews out a sick crunch!! With my Les Paul, the it turned all the way it, it is AC/DC all the way!!!
i wish mine would break up like that... haha it's still clean with just the slightest hint of drive on the top of the sound past like 5, but ive never turned it up on either channel past 5 because i think id blow my eardrums. my 1484 is LOUD. maybe its something with the brand of tubes i have that it has such a huge amount of clean headroom?
A stock 1485 wouldn't get the same tone as Slash. Jensen C12R's don't sound like Celestions. Using it with effects may help get you there if your already using one.
you want slash, get a marshall jcm 800 or the vintage modern. A british voiced amp, not an american one. I love slash but goddamn too many slash clones...its annoying as fuck
lol i wouldnt call them slash clones, the jcm 800 is probably marshalls most popular amp. that and it came out wayyy before gnr were ever big. or even formed for that matter
I think the '59 models were made in the early 80's. The Super Real and Mint Collection are the best (long tenon, edge binding and so on) but the ones made in 79 can be very good too! My Greco is a keeper.
I did change out the ceramic magnets in the pickups to Alnico 4 from Martin six string customs website.
The pre 1981 models I don't think are as good as later models, mine does have a 2 pc seam at the heal of the neck.. eh?,and a 2 pc. solid mahogany body, and center seam 2pc solid maple top.Fret edge binding the correct 17 degree headstock angle
I see your still using a digital camara, why? Cool tone. The pickups seem to be getting more defintion and bite. Do a clip into the clean channel. Cheers
I meant "clean" relative to the distorted channel he is playing through. Read the comments on the other 1484 posted clip. I modded that amp from stock on channel two. It uses a cascade/master volume on Ch. 2.
ah...wasn't aware of either the "mods" or your expertise - honestly thought you were telling your friend here to do the impossible (had this been all stock). Cool mod though, albeit im generally opposed to all mods. My silvertone doesn't get much action out of the studio because of it's one-trick-at-a-time pony nature. Mine, like most others i've played, is overdriven at hi volumes...i too want to see the clean channel. Thanks..
how many watts is the silvertone????

what ohms speakers do you run thru that head?
sealbroken 3 years ago
The head is not stock. But the cabinet is a 16 ohm impedance. The output transformer has 4/8/16 ohm taps.
Hereistone 2 years ago
the original cabinet for this head has 6 10'' speakers. probably jensen's
jks2 2 years ago
Not the 1484. That was 2x12. The 1485 had a 6x10. Both had blue tag Jensens.

Would you reccommend this amp for good Guns N Roses sound?

1484 has no clean channel...it's clean 'til about "4". After 4 you're breaking up.
