LOL I started this morning singing Ba Ba Black Sheep with my 4-year-old and it reminded me of Ba Ba BaBara Ann, and here I find a video of BarBa Ba Black Sheep! What were the chances? hahaha
fred00111: You are correct. I'm a baby boomer, also. I didn't fight in the big one, aka WWII. Our parents did or were of that age. Lennon, McCartney, Graham Nash etc, all were born during WWII. I was born 5 years after its completion. Brian Wilson and the other great musicians of his time gave us timeless music to enjoy and for generations to come. I just think that Brian Wilson was the best of the best. I'm not knocking the others. It's just my opinion, that's all.
when i'm gonna kiss the sky.. i'm sooo gonna jam with them_ and all the others, like bobbie, jim and jimmy, the beatles .. i sure could carry on that way for loooong terms..but i think - you got me! _but if i'd go up there ..and ..guess what- NO HEAVEN??? _i woulda be ~in other wrds. (-VERY DISSAPOINTED!) _Nah, I DO KNOW _THEY'RE ALL GOIN' TO BE THER - WITHIN' MY BELOVED ONES -..hey dad _how is it hangin' ..keep on practicing your guitarplay ..'cause -NOW ..i think i could nearly compete wit u!RIP
This is cool beyond belief. Dean Torrance is the only one who really knows all words (and cares the least!). He left the studio down the hall where he and Jan were recording a song he HATED. So Jan said if he was going to have such a bad attitude, get the hell out of the studio. So HE DID! And sang lead on the gold record "Barbara Ann," (which he suggested). In the single, recorded where this tape ends, Dean and Brian double on the falsetto parts and as Brian says here, it sounds REALLY COOL!!!
Brian Wilsons music is still light years ahead of the general population... this music will live forever until the human race kills itself "Idiocracy" style... even then... maybe more....
@isuseneca Hate to wreck your day, they were not WWII. I wuz riding in a woody with two long boards on tap with my bro, his bro, and his sister when I waz 7 in 1963. Our parents were WWII. PS the hippy generation died in 1969 at Altamont (when the H.A. kicked their hippy asses) Same year Black Sabbath released their first album. My people were greaser surfers, not hippies. Your a SO wrong about this WWII stuff. Go to history class, and quit ditching.
@AskTheVillageIdiot Charles Miles Manson as well as Altamont incident helped undo the 1960s spirit. I think that the introduction of Methedrine, Benzedrine, and hard drugs into the Haight Street scene was the factor that ruined the "hippy" movement in the fall of 1967. Burglaries, muggings, rapes, murder became a happening thing and many of the naive runaways were hurt by this. I remember this. The WWII Generation I knew were of a different breed than the so-called "hippy" generation.
@tickyticktick bull shit the bands now suck they can;ly write good melodies and they sound the same and all are about image its crap now, as for saying the beach boys didn't write this song fine, what about the other 30 hits that they did write that have lasted 40 years? how bands can you name in the past 10 years that have had even close
@isuseneca You are so right; & we owe Brian & Carl for climbing Mt. Suribachi and rasing the flag on Iwo Jima. If it weren't for Mike & Dennis, Hitler would still be in power. What about Al, who personally shot Mussolini? All that & still made music. Hey, these guys are in their 90's and going strong (except for Carl & Dennis, who died of old age).
@isuseneca I call this Shakespeare Syndrome. The sufferer belives that no pop music will better Beach Boys or Beatles, no film will surpass Citizen Kane, no team will ever play like Brazil 1970, no novelist will have the scope of Dickens and nobody cooks roast chicken like their mummy wummy.
This is an outtake from the "Beach Boys Party" sessions. You can clearly hear Dean Torrance of Jan & Dean speaking at the beginning. He sang on the officially released version as well but wasn't credited due to record company contractual issues.
That's absolutely true. Dean is singing the lead and doubling the falsetto parts with Brian. If you listen carefully, he's also the only one who knows all the words. The only reason they were singing it at all was at Dean's sugggestion.
