I'm reasonably convinced the point of preserving food is to prevent it from going off... which, if your food is full of "local bacteria" (is the botulism or salmonella living on my kitchen floor somehow better for me than the nasty imported stuff stuck to the bottom of my shoes?) is going to be hard to achieve. Preserving food is something you have to be incredibly careful with otherwise you'll poison yourself.
Very interesting except the part about the record player. Records are dreadful. And not being able to understand how an ipod works? Only if you close your brain. With a record it's a little wiggle on a piezo crystal (see Paul Curie for details). The crystal if very cool because it made the ipod possible. Think clock works but as a vibrating crystal that emit really small electrical charges as they vibrate at a very consistent pace. With a record you only get a scratchy and two track stereo.
The entire time i was watching i was thinking of all the negative things i could say about the video, but at the end i realized, it was refreshing to watch this.

maybe that's something extraordinary for the US, but here in xUSSR millions of people fill their bacements with self-made preserved vegetables every autumn.
Jordan, it seems you need some remedial chemistry and microbiology before you start making comments like that. Ya you are all about Mother Earth, but chakras and karma are man made things. When you speak of nutrition, know what it is you are talking about.
Agreed. there should be at least one arduino involved in the preservation process somewhere...... custom built CNC machine for turning the pickles into relish..... something
I agree :) I'm a big fan of bush-craft and paleolithic technologies. I'm just saying it is out of character for a forum that promotes advancements in technology. I have no problem with it, in fact I would like to promote an "Old is New" type philosophy :)
Even if a culture is decimated and technology is lost, for whatever reason, human hands always rediscover it. :)

What a wonderful little documentary of a quirky, colorful person. Who created it?

I think they should take a bunch of makers, throw them in a replica post apocalyptic area and see how they do with creating a new life :D

Reminds me of my beer making, how appropriate I'm watching this while drinking a nice home brew breakfast stout.

I like diversity in MakerFaire, but how is this innovative? I mean this has been going on for thousands of years?
Don't get me wrong. she should have a voice, but I think there needs to be a flaire for modern individuals. What has she MADE?

@Joxman2k Perhaps in some aspects, you may be wrong. It's a matter of preserving lost arts in a world that relies far too much on technology.
