See, in your "Making Of The British Railway Series" video, you said putting faces on the diesels didn't look right. However, I think if the diesel at 1:33 looks absolutely perfect!
i'm a little confused as to the liveries and crests.
i know BR brunwhick green came later than BR blue, but in which year did the express passenger engines painted into BR green and when did they all carry the late crest?
And with respect...the Modernisation plan was first "mooted" in 1952 by British Railways and the government of the day - within three years of the original suggestion the plan was announced (and I think I have actually said this in the episode's web page, see right of the video for the link).
Out here in America we already had diesels by the 1940s and steam was not embolished completely until the 1950s. I'm surprised that you guys in Britain still had steam engines by that era.
The Union Pacific Railroad is a rail system that connects with the Central Pacific Railroad in the Western United States. This company created the largest Diesel loco in the world and created the Big Boy and Challenger Locomotive Classes.
the lms had their fair share of early diesels, too.
most of the earliest diesels were taken out of service within their first few months because they had an annoying habit of breaking down, giving the steam locos a bit longer before they were withdrawn
This is a private mater between himself and the team. We are currently in discussion and I have no wish or requirement to disclose any information. What I would say, is that in any event, people should be able to come up with their own ideas without resorting to using someone else's.
"Last time i heard that bell, the year was 1942, it was one of my brothers". That brother was Sir Ralph Wedgewood who Sir Ralph in the series is masquerading as, discovered by Scott!
No evil diesels. Sorry, but I happen to disagree with Awdry on this one. You will certainly see some tension between steam and diesel, but by no means are any of the characters evil.
The episode is more based around Sir Ralph and "Scott" as he is known in the series, as in the period we're depicting, Flying Scotsman was painted first blue, then Dark Green and was just another steam engine (we're talking 1950s), this forms a lot of the jokes between "Scott" and "Tavish" who had never heard of him, having been built after the LNER's "golden age" of the 1920s.
So, let me get this straight: you and your fellow enthusiasts have taken on the Big Four, and what about BR Standard? Who's gonna take on that? I would be a great choice, wouldn't I? I can send you some narrative pieces if you tell me what your e-mail is, please.
The standards, like the railways in question, are spread across the series, so having a separate series is rather redundant. That's not to say we haven't got a BR standard series in the works, so to speak, but only after these series are completed.
On another point, Simierski is seeing a publisher tommorow about publishing a book of the series!!! Great News!!!
Only until December, when we move onto out new purpose built set, then we'll be churning out something like two episodes a month, or similar, of LNER and GWR, with LNER finishing by Easter to make way for the LMS series.
Loved the lighting effects, better than mine as you used it in real time rather than using a poxy filter. Liked the Darker atmosphere, really has a forboding feeling brewing, the mention of the Loco on the screaming screaming actually bothered me, horrable, so yeah, a disturbing reminder of the reality, good effort!
This one has been in the works so to speak for a while - we must have crashed the spare B12 about a dozen times, and we decided in the end that the best way to do it was to IMPLY a crash, You see the engine hit the brakevan, and then the screen goes dark for a few moments.
The lighting was okay with the evening shots of Allen, Stephen and Herbert, but I was not really happy with the night shots of Stephen or the Midland: however, in the end they served a purpose.
The engine being cut up on the siding, for me, conjures up that picture from "Stepney the Bluebell engine" of the engines on the sidings being cut up! Great little moement there, really sends a chill through the episode.
1. Yes, that was Harry the Hymek, visiting from "Great Western Glory".
And yes they did, but mostly in industrial settings, and on rare occasions in the Eastern region, but only in the 1960s really - this is where we've slightly stretched the truth to give the episode some extra strength - it did happen, but not quite in that way. Rest easy, no engines were hurt in the making of this episode!

Whats union pacific?

The Union Pacific Railroad is a rail system that connects with the Central Pacific Railroad in the Western United States. This company created the largest Diesel loco in the world and created the Big Boy and Challenger Locomotive Classes.
donaldengine9 3 years ago
ok..........
im not a US train fan u see
lolguy543returns 3 years ago
I don't know much about US locos, but Big Boy is seriously impressive. I've seen an OO gauge model and it dwarfs even Garrett-style locos.
Eddie4790 2 years ago
The GWR had some diesel railcars as early as the 1930's.
Eddie4790 2 years ago
But the Big Boys were one of the largest locos ever built, the largest would be the 2-6-6-6 Allegheny Class articulated.
donaldengine9 2 years ago 2
Wow, that sounds friggin' huge. I'll go and look that up.
Eddie4790 2 years ago
While your at it, look up the 2-8-8-8-2 Triplex.
donaldengine9 2 years ago
That may have been big, but it didn't have any use I don't believe. I heard it used so much steam it ran short distances.

The steam engine that Stephen talks to in the beginning, was he a Class 4MT Stanier Black 5, the same engine that Henry was based off of?
donaldengine9 4 years ago
No. He was a British Railways Standard 4MT design - the Black five is an entirely different engine.
simierski 4 years ago
I asked because that particular engine looks remarkably like Henry the Green Engine.
donaldengine9 4 years ago
What is that diesel at 1.44?
Damocles178 4 years ago
That is a "Blue Pullman" midland region DMU, first used by BR in 1959, and last used in 1975 or thereabouts.
simierski 4 years ago
Thank you. In a way it looks abit like an intercity 125.
Damocles178 4 years ago
It was the first DMU in service in Britain, and really it was the forerunner for the Intercity and DMUs worldwide.

This is very good. This reminds me of the railway series when the Diesels were starting to take over on the other railway.
