ANYTHING AWAY OR DOWNPLAYING THOSE ARTIST I MENTIONED BUT, COME ON, "SHOOTING STAR" MADE SOME TRUE GOODTIME, CRUZ'IN, FEELGOOD ROCK-N-ROLL!!! IT SUCH A SHAME HOW THAT SPIRIT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN LOST. THERES A LOT OF GREAT BANDS OUT THERE NOW, (AVENGE 7 FOLD, THREE DAYS GRACE, DOWN) JUST TO NAME A FEW, BUT THAT SOUL CHURNING, GOOSE BUMPS THAT YOU GET FROM HEARING THESE SONG JUST ISENT THERE IN TODAYS MAINSTREAM MUSIC. I GUESS ALL IM TRYING TO SAY IS "LONG LIVE THE SPIRIT OF GOODTIME HONKEYJAMS"DFL
I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE GROWN UP WITH AN OLDER CROWD & WAS BLESSED TO HAVE NOT ONLY LISTEN TO THESE GUYS BUT INFLUENCED MUSICALLY BY THEM. IN MY OPINION, ONE OF THE BEST, MOST UNDERRATED BANDS OF ALL TIME! THESE GUYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN HEADLINING SUMMER JAMS AT BUSCH STADIUM ECT. IF BANDS LIKE WARRANT, BULLET BOYS & SO ON WERE FILLING THE SEATS IN STADIUMS, IT SEEM LIKE A CRIME TO ME THAT THESE GUYS WERNT GIVEN THE CHANCE TO AS WELL! IM NOT KNOCKING OR TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FORM (CONT)
It's always great to see the evolution of a band as long lived as Shooting Star. I can remember being a young Marine Corps infantryman playing that cassette tape with these two songs on it way back in early 80s. I and my platoon mates literally wore the tape out playing "Breakout" and these two songs, in fact.
This lineup sounds very tight and well-paced. I think the only original members are that McClain and his bass player, but the violinist and the other two are very good. A+++ performance.
But lately the bass parts are handled by the left hand of Dennis Laffoon on keys. So that leaves Van and Steve as the only original members that currently tour.....
GOD I remember these guys in Kansas City Mo, They used to pratice in the old Wards Building South of the River, We Rehursed above them in the 80s..Miss Charlie, but hes a BillBord Guy now days in K.C..Steve Thomas on Drums,Gary West( I have his mic stand) and Van mclain..Nice guys! God I love that Firebird! Brothers to the band MISSOURI From ST.Louis..but do know these guys on a Personal note. Grew up with the West Brothers.
The one on the left playing guitar is original, the one singing lead on this song isnt...His name is Ron Platt. But if you search on my user name and see Breakout and Last Chance and medley they are sung by Gary West and he is the original lead singer....The lead guitar players name is Van McLain.....

In this video original members are:
Van McLain Lead Guitar
Ron Verlin Bass
Steve Thomas Drums
But lately the bass parts are handled by the left hand of Dennis Laffoon on keys. So that leaves Van and Steve as the only original members that currently tour.....
