@qtabah99 Dear precious diamond, as another Saudi female, I just have to say that what you wrote is a load of BS. You seem to be happy, good for you, but that's certainly not the case for everyone here. How about being treated like an actual person instead of a "diamond" or any other type of rock? Crazy concept, huh? Anyway, I have not met a woman who gets treated like a diamond, but I've heard that phrase many times before. It's duckspeak, if you repeat it enough times you'll believe it's true
what brought Saudi Arabia to what you are talking about!

and women TRULY aren't allowed to drive In Saudi Arabia But that does NOT mean they cant go anywhere or they are always stuck in the kitchen! We go with or brothers, fathers, they take us wherever we want and we have drivers too!
i had a japanese person say this to me once, didn't really understand why at the time. at the end of the phone conversation she says "I will wait" I just took it as another akward comment
"I'll be waiting" would be fine, I think. I don't think most people in my country would use anything like that at the end of a phone call unless it was something like: "Hey, I'm running a little late! I'll be there in 10 minutes." "Okay, I'll be waiting."
That doesn't make me any smarter :) When they are saying "I'm waiting", are they actually thinking in those terms? I know many expressions in my own language which are used without any thought really, but it often has some logic to it ofcourse.
No, they're not literally thinking like that, it's a polite expression. It's more polite to say that than just say goodbye (in some circumstances). Like the expression "itadakimasu" literally means: "I receive", but people just say it because it's what you're supposed to say before you eat.
Ok, that sounds reasonable. I gather snooq had some further explanation here, about what it originates from. That's always fun to know, although not necessary.
Good question ... I'm not sure about the answer to this. I have a feeling that it's common for people in NZ to pronounce woman and women the same way (like woman). But some people think this is wrong.

Women will never be equal to men... until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are beautiful.

That looked cool! And what are the reason for Japanese saying I'm waiting? It must have some reason right?
wowJhil 3 years ago
i think it comes from the common japanese phrase 'o-machishitteimasu'

In north america, we pronounce the word "women"...as WIMEN.
One woman...two "WIM/'en"....don't ask me why?
I don't know of any other case where an "O" is pronounced as an "I".
One goose...two geese.
One mouse...two mice.
One moose...two moose.
...it's just one of those strange english language things, i guess??????
