@ Bluestorm 5 yes, these are his exact words, he said them to team owner and best friend Richard Childress.
"Richard if they don't do something to these cars its gonna end up killing somebody" Less than 30 laps later we lost the greatest driver to ever live, RIP #3
If only Dale Sr. got caught up in this wreck, he would probably be alive today if he couldnt finish the race or he would of been a slower car on the track.
Dale Earnhardt Sr kind of foreshadowed his death while talking to crew chief during red flag. Dale swear that someone will get killed if NASCAR don't do something. He died 2 hours after saying these words, and we got bunch of new rules and new safety figures.
Look how low the fence was, could you see Carl Edward's wreck at the Talladega in 2009 how dangerous that would be! Good thing they raised all of the fence at most tracks!
I watched that race live that day. My god both Eardhardt and this crash toppled on top of each other. First we saw this thing and then we saw the death of Dale.
i wish that Dale Earnhart was involved in that accident just enough so that he could have had some small damage and a tire down or something so he would have been a lap down or something so we wouldn't of had to watch the fatal crash that took Dale Sr. life R.I.P. you are missed
i have seen tony boxed at daytona and they all hit him hard enough to come in like 11th he can take a hit he is doing good this year and i think he can make it far
You know this race is a tearjerker to watch. For dale, but Tony may have gotten killed if Earnhardt were to hit Tony?? I miss Dale though, god that's tough to watch.
at 1:30 u can c that a car kinda hit #3. u can c a black car w/ silver & red trim get hit alittle bit by the 4 car. i bet if the 4 didnt get hit by the 22 (ward burton) dale wouldnt have died cuz that wreck is how he got up to the front
Back when this race happened they didn't freeze the field when caution comes out, they raced back to the start/finish line to get placed for the restart.
yea, I think you're right. Tony took a long time to use the HANS; he used the Hutchens for awhile. The device wasn't made mandatory until October 2001.
What was also important was that Tony Stewart was always moving forward even while flipping. The same thing happened several years to him at Talladega.
i think the same thing all the time when i watch this. me and a friend were watching and i realized how many possible ways things coulda happened differently and he'd still be on the track.
That's the way it always seems to work in NASCAR. The most harmless looking wrecks are the ones where people get seriously hurt or killed. The big spectacular ones, the drivers walk away unhurt.
You can see Earnhardt go under the wreck and get by with no problem. I can't help but think if he had gotten collected in that wreck, he would still be with us today.
But many people, who say that don't realize, he probably would've hung up the helmet by now if he was still around, or at least racing part-time. Had he been in it, he most likely would be around. But unfortunately, the safety we have probably would not be here & more drivers would've died, if not for Earnhardt's sacrifice.
@IamTheShermanator just what i was thinking! If he was involved and by how he escaped almost was he might have been hit slightly less harder then the final lap incident because he would have slown down already
yeah i know and some people actually think they stopped from how quiet it is and they open up there window net only to fid out that they are still in the air
well, i think he was hurt, this just shows 7 years later. if tony were to get involved in that same accident in the COT, he walk right away, that just goes to show the advances made to these cars
what i dont get is why is it that Tonys car hit with such force like Dales car but Tony didnt get injured but Dale died....how does that happen? guess it wasn't his time i guess.
Dale wore an open face helmet and his chin struck the wheel and his head jerked back and snapped his brain stem. It's called basilar skull fracture. Many believe that if he had a closed helmet, he would have lived. Stewart had a closed helmet.
I watched this entire race--Tony landed on Bobby Labonte, the driver of the 18 Interstate Batteries car, his JGR teammate at the time. I am a HUGE Tony fan and I rarly miss a race. I have been a fan since 2000. He is the best!
It looked nothing petty's flip off of 4.

tony was using a HANS device and his belts didnt fail like Earnhardt, he also had a full face helmet.
