Loved this video since the first time I saw it. Loved your Just Say Julie show as well. Would be happy if a new Just Say Julie series started.. You were the much better Julie Brown on MTV at the time. Downtown Julie doesn't hold a candle to you. ;)
Julie, babe! Love this video. Love you. Had an original vinyl copy of Goddess in Progress once upon a time until I stupidly lent it out to a friend and never saw it again. Anyway, you were, and still are, way ahead of the times. I can't believe MTV refused to air it when it came out.. Too violent? Yeah, and Judas Priest was a goddamn Sunday in the park with the kids. Anyhoo, glad your trapped in the body of a white girl. Wouldn't have it any other way.
OMG, I feel 25 years younger watching this! I loved this and taped it off TV in the 80s and my brother and sister and I watched it a million times over, a classic. I guess it was ahead of its time, I could never understand why something so cool and witty wasn't a huge hit. So great to see this here and from the real Julie Brown herself I gather? Well, what a great thing the internet is! Ms.Brown, you are a legend!
"Stop it Debi!! You're embarrassing me!!! How can you do what you just did, are you having a really bad period?" Funniest line I've ever heard ROFLMAO :D
I gots ta say, I have ALWAYS loved your comedy Julie.. and this Video is just one of many great ones... Dare to be Truthful is my all time fav though.. thanks for uploading this.. LOVE YA ALWAYS.. :)
This was without a doubt my favorite song of the 80's and the video was totally cool. I had ever song Julie Brown ever recorded. I had such a crush on her back in those days as she was a PERFECT 10! I would have given a thousand dollars just to go out with her one time.
I miss "Just Say Julie" This video, "Cuz i'm a Blond" and Julie's commentary in front of other artist's videos were hilarious! "Simply Irresistible" was probably my favorite. "Fake, fake, fake, real!"
@DrSamba1 I was about to amke a reference to Heathers. In Heathers, the long walk in the cafeteria was inspired by the long-walk scene from Full Metal Jacket. Same director.
Heathers was actually based on a B-movie from the 1970s called Massacre At Central High.
Great video! I alway add my own mental aside; when her friend remarks He always had food in his friends, brief cut to a photo of a nerdy boy next to a trophy from the science fair, cut back, the camera pans away from Debi, to the jocks looking guilty about something, and then passing on a hillside in the background -- the cemetery. Final scene: the cute policeman walks off with the girl, the tiara getting swiped, and then long pull-back again to the graveyard, focus on a grave with John's name
lol, i like how she hooks up with the policeman at the end & then someone steals the tiara, hehe. I remember hearing this in elementary school back around '86/87. I had it on cassette tape, & i thought it was funny then :-D I hadn't seen the video until now, & i think it goes really well with the story too.
WOW- that's Stacey Travis as the cheerleader on the right - 1:31 ! I knew she was in Earth Girls Are Easy too, but it's amazing to see her in this music video. Except for her and Julie, are there any other celebrities here? She was obviously good but very unlikable in Ghost World and I'm a huge horror fan, she was amazing in Hardware.
Just saw the video today. I've had the song since 2000. And it's EXACTLY how I imagined it would be. I actually spent at least an hour thinking about what this video would be like, visualizing it. It's incredible. Right down to the police officers and the shot of her going - "Does anybody here know Johnny? Are YOU Johnny?" I was a child of the 90's, so I think there's almost no way I've seen this before. Just watched Police Academy 2 today and they really underused Julie. LOVE Clueless.
As the previous poster said, though I always used to think of I Don't Like Mondays in those terms, that the B.Rats would have been banned outright from airing their main song. Still, as for Julie and this great vid, I used to love this on the real MTV back in the day. And the great series she was on, The Edge; wish that was released in whole or part. Best I could find was a collection of Plymptoons on DVD.
@NoWattz Yeah escpecially after Columbine, the song is not as hilarious as it was in the 80's because it's hapenned to often since in real life. Oh well as Julie does in the video, just shrug it off!
Well let's party sometime! You lookl like you can have a great time, as well as me! I loved you on THe Middle! Was watching it with my partner, and I hollered out, "OMG! That's Julie Brown!" As to which my partner hollered "Look out the B-list actress has got a gun!"
About 25 years ago I was "The Homecoming Queen With A Gun" for Halloween...pink dress, blonde wig, sash, tiara and toy cap gun! Am assuming it would be considered very insensitive nowadays...but boy was it fun back then! Thanks, Julie for all the laughs through the years.
Even in 1983, my high-school principal wouldn't let me bring a a BB pistol to school as part of my sheriff's costume. (Of course, since the costume looked more like Andy Griffith than a sheriff from the Old West, it was just as well.)
@cowboybear40 Hey, you stay as you are. Who else but the gays could appreciate such a gloriously tasteless song! :-) Years ago my friends and I went camping and went into laughing fits quoting this song one night. All of a sudden another "family member" from the next site over called out, "So I said to her, in her GOOD ear...". This is why Julie Brown RAWKS!
Well, I'm not gay, and when this song came out, I found it REALLY entertaining! (Of course, I laughed at "Arthur" in 1981, but MADD quickly changed my mind.)
They'll just get another math teacher. Or they might bring in a substitute to finish out the year ---the prom is typically towards the end of the school year anyway--- and start the new math teacher off at the beginning of the next year.
I had this album. Sugar and spice... and everybody's dead! I thought this song, "I Like Em Big and Stupid" and "Coz I'm a Blonde" were rather amusing.
I used to play this at my college radio station in the 80's. While is still funny, it's absolute poison to play it on air in light of the times. Oh how things have changed.
Well, Julie, I once read in Kenny Rogers' book "Making It with Music" that you have to obtain the permission of the publisher to make major changes in a song. (You probably already knew that, though.) This leads me to believe that the publishers hold all the power in the music industry.
@A1l2l2e2n4 Incorrect. ANYONE can do a "cover" of a song if they pay the "mechanical license," and parody doesn't even require that. The laws are actually AGAINST publishers; the singer owns copyright unless it's a work for hire, and so does the ENGINEER. It's ridiculous. You can pay to produce a song and not even own it if you arne't careful; almost happend to me with one I WROTE! In any other business, the writer and person who pays would own it all; not here. Sick.
