  • WHO WAS JOHNNY?

  • wonder if this is on my dr demento video...

  • " The Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun " is a 1984 song by American singer–comedian Julie Brown parodying 1950s "teen tragedy" songs. yay yay love it

  • This is a very "glistening" video. =p

  • Still lovin' it after all these years!!

  • Your video is a favorite on Ethiopia

  • There was a great Star Wars parody video using this video back in the days before the corporates had grabbed control of Youtube.

  • i heard this song for the first time on friday..and my face was just so...weird. i didnt get it. but its catchy for sure

  • Is that Anna Nicole Smith at 0;16?!

  • My favorite 80's video. It was played every night at Uncle Charlie's NYC for over 10 years. Thank you for your talent, Ms. Brown!

  • Loved this video since the first time I saw it. Loved your Just Say Julie show as well. Would be happy if a new Just Say Julie series started.. You were the much better Julie Brown on MTV at the time. Downtown Julie doesn't hold a candle to you. ;)

  • Julie Brown is so sexy and hot, and she's way funnier and more talented than that rude, obnoxious, no-talent hack Chelsea Handler.

  • @maximuscaligula My Mom Loves Chelsea lol. I Agree Though.

  • lol in the mtv version she says "I almost split my seams" Instead of "I almost wett my jeans" Why are they such cockblocks -______-

  • Still brilliant after all these years.

  • 4 people were the homecoming queens with the gun

  • I love this song. My favorite song besides Party in my pants.

    You rock Julie.

  • I did it for Johnny...

  • @ILoveJoBros4Yever

    Who's Johnny?

  • I love this song but I also know if it had come out after Columbine It would have been very controversial.

  • who's johnny?!

  • I totally love this!...and have for decades!

  • Loved it then, still love it now, Thanks for the memories, Julie

  • It took the cops an hour to respond to a school masacre?

  • One of those so bad it's good videos! brings back alot of memories!

  • Thanks for putting the real version up :)

  • To this day i still wonder who johnny was.......

  • THEN WHO WAS JOHNNY????

  • FUNNYJUNKERSS =]]

  • Julie, babe! Love this video. Love you. Had an original vinyl copy of Goddess in Progress once upon a time until I stupidly lent it out to a friend and never saw it again. Anyway, you were, and still are, way ahead of the times. I can't believe MTV refused to air it when it came out.. Too violent? Yeah, and Judas Priest was a goddamn Sunday in the park with the kids. Anyhoo, glad your trapped in the body of a white girl. Wouldn't have it any other way.

  • Tell the truth. The reason you wrote this was so that you could have an excuse to wear a tiara

  • We need Strip Mall on DVD!!!

  • OMG, I feel 25 years younger watching this! I loved this and taped it off TV in the 80s and my brother and sister and I watched it a million times over, a classic. I guess it was ahead of its time, I could never understand why something so cool and witty wasn't a huge hit. So great to see this here and from the real Julie Brown herself I gather? Well, what a great thing the internet is! Ms.Brown, you are a legend!

    Adrian

  • brings back memories, my sis and i used to love this song

  • Geeze, Killed the Glee club. I don't know why the Gleeks complain of a Squishy facial.

  • Love this song. I saw a drag queen perform it.. I still want to know who Johnny is though.

  • "Stop it Debi!! You're embarrassing me!!! How can you do what you just did, are you having a really bad period?" Funniest line I've ever heard ROFLMAO :D

  • Do the kids know what an instamatic is?

  • @tlyoung88

Probably not. It came out during the '70s.

  • @A1l2l2e2n4 this song came out in 1984

  • @MichaelHansenFUN

I didn't hear it until 1986. But it's entirely conceivable that it came out in '84.

  • @A1l2l2e2n4 well it is on the 1980s volume of dr demento and it also is on wikipedia

  • I loved this song and Julie Brown. Very talented person. In fact my 63 year old mother asked me if I could find a CD of her music.

  • Isn't the official title of this song "Everybody Run (The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun)?"

  • Favorite line: "By that time the entire glee club had died! No big loss...." Thank you, Julie, my darling. You made the 80s so much fun.

  • "Stop Debbie, you're making a mess

    Gunpowder's all over your dress!"

  • Johnny from The Room!

  • (hoooooo) It was April twenty at Columbine

(hoooooo) The skies were fair, it was totally fine

(hoooooo) I was real excited, I felt it in my guts

(hoooooo) Cause my two best friends had gone totally nuts

(hoo, wah, hoo, wah) They looked so gritty wearing black cloth (black

    cloth)

Sighting the scope with the safety off (safety off)

Loading this humongous rifle in their hands (rifle)

They looked straight out of Vietnam

You know the Dracula story, I mean definitely a grim book (grim book)

  • I gots ta say, I have ALWAYS loved your comedy Julie.. and this Video is just one of many great ones... Dare to be Truthful is my all time fav though.. thanks for uploading this.. LOVE YA ALWAYS.. :)

  • @Kazahmish I never liked anything she did except this song, which is probably my favorite ever.

It's so brilliant one cannot even put it into words.

  • This is my first time seeing the video. I have "Trapped in the Body of a White Girl" on CD and love all the songs!

  • Who's Johnny??? @.@

  • Couldn't you just do a "cover" of your own song and pay a compulsory cover license to Warner? Ask an attorney about that!

  • This was without a doubt my favorite song of the 80's and the video was totally cool. I had ever song Julie Brown ever recorded. I had such a crush on her back in those days as she was a PERFECT 10! I would have given a thousand dollars just to go out with her one time.

  • @RevJohnnyLeeClary I never could stand Julie, but this song was the exception. It's phenomenally brilliant.

  • I miss "Just Say Julie" This video, "Cuz i'm a Blond" and Julie's commentary in front of other artist's videos were hilarious! "Simply Irresistible" was probably my favorite. "Fake, fake, fake, real!"

  • Songs like this and movies like Heathers--sadly, now a thing of the past.

  • @DrSamba1 I was about to amke a reference to Heathers. In Heathers, the long walk in the cafeteria was inspired by the long-walk scene from Full Metal Jacket. Same director.

Heathers was actually based on a B-movie from the 1970s called Massacre At Central High.

  • Great video! I alway add my own mental aside; when her friend remarks He always had food in his friends, brief cut to a photo of a nerdy boy next to a trophy from the science fair, cut back, the camera pans away from Debi, to the jocks looking guilty about something, and then passing on a hillside in the background -- the cemetery. Final scene: the cute policeman walks off with the girl, the tiara getting swiped, and then long pull-back again to the graveyard, focus on a grave with John's name

  • I remember the first time I listened to this song with my brother on Dr. Demento. I was 9 and it was awesome.

  • Julie Brown was my favorite VJ on MTV, because I could stare at her huge sexy rack!

Never saw this video, pretty funny! Thanks!

  • This was the first I had heard of you back in the 80's luved you ever since Julie, oxoxox.

  • lol, i like how she hooks up with the policeman at the end & then someone steals the tiara, hehe. I remember hearing this in elementary school back around '86/87. I had it on cassette tape, & i thought it was funny then :-D I hadn't seen the video until now, & i think it goes really well with the story too.

  • WOW- that's Stacey Travis as the cheerleader on the right - 1:31 ! I knew she was in Earth Girls Are Easy too, but it's amazing to see her in this music video. Except for her and Julie, are there any other celebrities here? She was obviously good but very unlikable in Ghost World and I'm a huge horror fan, she was amazing in Hardware.

  • Just saw the video today. I've had the song since 2000. And it's EXACTLY how I imagined it would be. I actually spent at least an hour thinking about what this video would be like, visualizing it. It's incredible. Right down to the police officers and the shot of her going - "Does anybody here know Johnny? Are YOU Johnny?" I was a child of the 90's, so I think there's almost no way I've seen this before. Just watched Police Academy 2 today and they really underused Julie. LOVE Clueless.

  • Excellent video and song! As a child of the 80s...

I can atttest to it's Fabulousness.

Thank-you JULIE. You are AWESOME !

  • I have watched this video a kajillion times and i just noticed 100 things about this video in this time of watching it.

  • As the previous poster said, though I always used to think of I Don't Like Mondays in those terms, that the B.Rats would have been banned outright from airing their main song. Still, as for Julie and this great vid, I used to love this on the real MTV back in the day. And the great series she was on, The Edge; wish that was released in whole or part. Best I could find was a collection of Plymptoons on DVD.

  • If you made a song like this today, they'd put you in jail and call you a terrorist or something.

  • @NoWattz Yeah escpecially after Columbine, the song is not as hilarious as it was in the 80's because it's hapenned to often since in real life. Oh well as Julie does in the video, just shrug it off!

  • Thank you! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

  • "By then the entire Glee Club died, no big loss." I lost it at that line. I love this video.

  • Hey Julie! I have so many fond memories singing and dancing to this song. Classic Julie Brown at her BEST! Can we share it on Facebook?

  • "I did it for Johnny" Reminds me soooo much of The Outsiders it isnt even funny

  • OMG I used to do this song in my shows !!!!! LOVED IT !!!

  • Ahhhh, the '80s. When a song about school shootings was considered high comedy... it truly was a more innocent time.

...seriously, though: this video made me laugh my ass off back in the '80s and it still does now. Thanks for the flashback, Julie!!

  • @TralphazQ i think it was the 70's

  • @FazKanch Ummmm.... nope, Julie's album "Trapped in the Body of a White Girl," which this song comes from, came out in 1987.

  • @TralphazQ Tell me about it. I began writing "High School Shooting Musical" just as an excuse to use this song, but I never finished it.

Dark humor is a lost art. This is by far Julie Brown's best work ever.

  • was and still is the greatest song to come out of the 80s

  • I saw her panties!

  • Well let's party sometime! You lookl like you can have a great time, as well as me! I loved you on THe Middle! Was watching it with my partner, and I hollered out, "OMG! That's Julie Brown!" As to which my partner hollered "Look out the B-list actress has got a gun!"

  • About 25 years ago I was "The Homecoming Queen With A Gun" for Halloween...pink dress, blonde wig, sash, tiara and toy cap gun! Am assuming it would be considered very insensitive nowadays...but boy was it fun back then! Thanks, Julie for all the laughs through the years.

  • @deborama525

Even in 1983, my high-school principal wouldn't let me bring a a BB pistol to school as part of my sheriff's costume. (Of course, since the costume looked more like Andy Griffith than a sheriff from the Old West, it was just as well.)

  • Thanks honey! And I'd love to help turn you straight, but we really do need all the gays we can get! They make the world awesome!

  • I love you Julie! I loved your MTV show and your music, films and such! If anyone can turn me straight, you can.........wella tleast we can try!

  • @cowboybear40 Hey, you stay as you are. Who else but the gays could appreciate such a gloriously tasteless song! :-) Years ago my friends and I went camping and went into laughing fits quoting this song one night. All of a sudden another "family member" from the next site over called out, "So I said to her, in her GOOD ear...". This is why Julie Brown RAWKS!

  • @jonthom11702

Well, I'm not gay, and when this song came out, I found it REALLY entertaining! (Of course, I laughed at "Arthur" in 1981, but MADD quickly changed my mind.)

  • @A1l2l2e2n4 :-) You gotta love that a song about a homicidal homecoming queen is something we can all agree on. Julie Brown: uniter of the masses!

  • I love you Julie! I loved your MTV show and your music, films and such! If anyone can turn me straight, you can

  • this song always cheers me up..

  • YAY THE MATH TEACHER'S DEAD!!!! NO MORE GEOMETRY!!!!!!!!

  • @mem0098

They'll just get another math teacher. Or they might bring in a substitute to finish out the year ---the prom is typically towards the end of the school year anyway--- and start the new math teacher off at the beginning of the next year.

  • @mem0098

There are more math teachers where that one came from!

  • kool

  • I had this album. Sugar and spice... and everybody's dead! I thought this song, "I Like Em Big and Stupid" and "Coz I'm a Blonde" were rather amusing.

  • I've always loved this song. Good thing the fashion of the 80s was a revamped version of the 60s! Lol. x

  • I like the part that says "an hour later the cops arrived"

  • I used to play this at my college radio station in the 80's. While is still funny, it's absolute poison to play it on air in light of the times. Oh how things have changed.

  • <--- Julie Brown's biggest fan! (Seriously, I'm almost 400lbs)

  • Julie, you are brilliant!!!!

  • From WMG to OMG every line is an LOL

  • WoW if they blocked Your song on your channel the world has gone insane! WMG Weapons of Mass Garbage.

  • Just awesome!! I listen to this song all the time!! You are brilliant!! Thanks again!!

  • Wow thanks for uploading. Love it. The video is an alternate cut to the one I've always seen.

  • @zaniac100 You have it backward, the one you've always seen is the alternate version.

  • Yay! Thanks, Julie! So funny.

  • This still makes me laugh after all these years.

    Thanks..

  • i love this one so much

    thank you

  • You are seriously one of my idols julie!! I'm gonna start working on a portrait of you very soon!!!!

  • I"m working on the copyright issues.

  • @JulieBrownTV

Well, Julie, I once read in Kenny Rogers' book "Making It with Music" that you have to obtain the permission of the publisher to make major changes in a song. (You probably already knew that, though.) This leads me to believe that the publishers hold all the power in the music industry.

  • @A1l2l2e2n4 Incorrect. ANYONE can do a "cover" of a song if they pay the "mechanical license," and parody doesn't even require that. The laws are actually AGAINST publishers; the singer owns copyright unless it's a work for hire, and so does the ENGINEER. It's ridiculous. You can pay to produce a song and not even own it if you arne't careful; almost happend to me with one I WROTE! In any other business, the writer and person who pays would own it all; not here. Sick.
