Love this film. Always been a fan since watching on TV back in the 70's. Carol Lynly is amazing. This is also one of the best scores for a film ever! It's brilliant!
as a child i saw this film, and found the music haunting and back then very contemporary and stylish for its time, the film has many errie moments, though the climax was a little of a let down it still stuck in my mind and was so different from the usual hammer, amicus and AIP out put i was use to seeing then, however, it was for a long while shown sooo many times on TV i grew tired of it and avoided it for many years, now after a long rest i can rediscover it and as an adult enjoy it again.
as a child i watched thius movie and never really fully enjoyed ( i was very much into hammer gothic, which this was not) it also unsettled me but never really knew why, now im older i find it much more interesting, the rape and sex plot makes sense and the music is so haunting, i would enjoy it now, maybe because the BBC screened so regularly at one point and i couldnt grasp the film in my mind then i tired of it,,,,i will have to watch it again now it has been several years.
The Hardingham Mill(Norfolk) that was burned down has a history on the net if you Google it,with film scenes. The wonderful Carol Lynley has a Facebook group.
Yes,I prefer the horror films of the 60's and 70's also..they're so much better than the crap they call horror films today!.Some of my favorites are the Hammer films 'Die! Die! My Darling',Scream Of Fear..The Skull,The Birds,Carnival Of Souls,Psycho,Tales From The Crypt,Rosemary's Baby,Repulsion,Night Of The Living Dead' and many more.
I'm so excited to learn this. I've been waiting years for this to come out on dvd. I remember seeing this film years ago when I was around 13 (now 46). I've never forgotten it. It was late at night and I remember it scared the heck out of me for some reason. Can't wait to see it again. Thanks for letting us know about it's release. I love movies from the 60's and early 70's.
oh my God, I am having such flashbacks. I loved this movie as a young girl, always remember it. Of course, I am the only one who seems to have seen it. I wish they would show these movies on T.V. again. Thanks for the posting
OH my gosh!!!!!!!!! My grandfather has been in the Kirchin band since he was a teenager, and this is just amazing to find out his music has been put into a movie!!!!! absolutely amazing this is awesome,, this made my day, heck it made my life!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, he has been in the band for a great while when the band first started all around Europe. He just recently gave up the job due to his alzheimers disease.
I loved this movie and was totally creeped out by it too. There are both tangible fears, like the menacing Oliver Reed, and some that are cloaked in mystery, like the child's scary late night visitor. The scene where Carol is left alone in the mill house and you see the eye watching her through the hole in the wall always gets me. It really taps into that universal human fear that when we think we are alone we are actually not. Great cinematic elements and great individual performances.
Yeh, she most certainly was. I remember first watching it in about 1984, and thinking that is one sexy girl!! I only recently found out she actually comes from Australia.

One of my favourite films of all time. Carol Lynley is lovely, but anyone remember Judith Arthy in it? She was my favourite. Beautiful, great legs!
