  • Tim Follin was simply amazing.

He made the c-64 and the Amiga sing.

  • Wow, that sounds nothing like the Ghost n' Goblins music but I give 100% full respect to it, it still sounds great and memorable.

  • The music at 03:13. That's the definition of epic. Probably the best sounding version of the song of all the platforms it was ported to.

  • @bakkelun Yes!

  • I was always well impressed with that little bit of accordion at 4:41 as a nipper, I'd never heard anything like that coming out of the SID at the time.

  • The music is still better than in 99% of modern games.

  • The C64 was technologically a medieval hardcore machine that gave us the gritty days of computing and i LOVE IT for that!, which of course then spawned that further on the Amiga :)

  • c64 version was the only one i've played as a kid and i was sure that we play the mummy! Xd would never gues that he carries an armour, more like bandages ;)

  • Holy shit, I didn't know there was a C64 version. Gotta love the music on the Megadrive/Genesis version more though. =P

  • Love the music.

  • I didn't know that there was a C64 version of this game. Awesome :) I grew up on the genesis version.

  • give me this game on T64 or PRG format !!!!!!!!

  • Although the graphics are obviously bad I'm stunned at how faithful the maps are to the original arcade levels. i think they must have dumped the graphics of an arcade board! it makes me want to play it right now!!

  • @Saxonation

I remember reading something at the time. As Tim Follin produced the music for most of the home computer systems of G&G he thought the arcade tracks were pretty dull. I reckon he just picked out the bits he liked and the rest was inspired by the subject matter...

  • I love these rough approximations of games that the system just couldn't handle. Not even an insult, it's genuinely cool how they managed to pack in as much as they did.

One thing, how come all home computer versions feature the song from level 2 and no others? Just an issue of license?

  • It was still better than the Amiga version which was a total shambles!

  • I used to play this just to hear the music, and luckily there was a cheat available.

  • This game reminds me of maplestory

    2d

    The screen moves

    Amazing music

    Shadow Partner

  • Brilliant!!!!

  • The Ghouls n' Ghosts music rocks! =)

  • The 10 seconds or so of the music from 0:48 onwards still blows my mind. When I first played the game I'd never heard anything with that sort of clarity and beautifully smooth scale before, it sounds gorgeous, and really shows what the SID chip was capable of.

  • loved this game. i remember thinking the music was simply amazing compared to the lame arcade bgm. wonder if the dude that made these tunes is still about somewhere.

  • And then, he killed off the excellent title music...

  • Totally surreal audio quality-wise... jaw dropped pretty much to the floor. We had this game back then, but can't remember anything but those damn guillotines (and a ripped & destroyed cassette tape :)

  • Ah, the memories!

  • This looks better that the nes version. Music is too happy but still nice.

  • The music sound just amazing!

  • check the amiga versions.... GREAAAAAAAAAT!

  • The rainstorm sounds at the beginning?

Not just overlayed on the audio of the video.

  • I had this game and yes, those rainstorm sounds are from the game.

  • Cool creepy game ha ha

  • Yep! The C64 version from that game was really a disappointment. But the musik is really cool.

  • @DerSchmu

The C64 version was pretty well received, even if the graphics looked like arse.

  • C64 was a stunning platform back in the day. Sound quality was better, no licensing bullshit unlike the NES and other consoles.

Disks were sexy and let's face it; being able to make your own games even today with fully working compilers/assemblers rocks. Unlike cartridges, all games can be downloaded freely now to run on the real console with ease - the hardware to copy C64 disks still exists, is easy to come by and is fully usable with modern PCs ;-)

Finally, the sound chip and music.... :D

  • Is this really the commodore 64 version? thats not how I remember it at all it looked better then that and the music was miles better

  • unfortunately that is the broad span of time distorting your memory

  • Better than the Amiga version.

  • the music was amazing for the time - i rate the music above every other part of the game - absolutely brilliant

  • I used to have this, you play so much better than me. I had to cheat :(

  • AMIGA!!!

  • pity Software Creations did such a bad job porting Ghouls n Ghosts on Amiga & Atari ST

    i expected arcade perfect versions

  • I used to play this game loads looking back I actually prefer this to the advanced versions mostly because of the music and the memories it brings back. Thanks for posting.

  • i can't say it's better than C64 Ghosts n Goblins

  • Who did the soundtrack for this, John Coltrane and Captain Birdseye? Love it.

Since I've installed Mame, I must have been playing the 'Ghost' arcade games on and off for 15 years without completion. Hardest, most playable games ever.

  • A SMASHER!! I remember i got the version from 'UNITED ARTISTS' cracked by 'PACMAN'.. This lamer decided to only release the first level from this game coz in his opinion it was too hard to play and impossible to enter level 2.. Infact I managed level 1 and now after 19 years I see the 2nd one.. :)

  • God knows how many hours I have spent on this one!!! I remember my dad being obsessed with the music.

Just to fill in the blanks, the incredible music of this game was created by the Tim Follin, my favourite C64 composer. It's royalty free and you can find it in the HVSC pack (High Voltage SID Collection).

  • awsome music love the intro to this. The games rock hard tho and if you dont get the right weapon for the level where you have to shoot the thingies underground you was basically fucked.

  • Ghosts'n Goblins is way harder.

  • Incredibly difficult game, especially that Goddamn elavator section.

  • Tim Follin did an awesome job with the music in this.

  • it was my best game in c64!!

  • Knife is the best weapon; hatchet the worse!

  • Thnaks for left the whole intro music! I use a SID reader on my Pc, and I often listen these musics, thinking they are totally fantastic! And it is not only because of my nostalgia! Golden age of my life...

  • This game was so hard! Part of it were quite unfair, a bit like in Rick Dangerous. It was a much more advanced game than Ghosts 'n Goblins but not as much fun IMO.

But the music on the first level here is cool, like Jethro Tull lol.

  • The music is still Incredible!

  • Looks terrible but the music is still cool. Nice one thanks for the memories and well played!
