I would attribute the similarities with Byzantine Chant to Pope St. Gregory I's work. He lived in the 6th Century, whereas Old Roman had developed in about the 8th. you can compare it with Gallican, Ambrosian and Mozarabic and see how different it is. I truly think it was St. Gregory who brought some Byzantine influences (including the tones/modes) into the Western chant.
@RettaDottrina I could easily say it is due not just to the Frankish empire, but due to the Eastern Roman emperor's self-determined outlook on most issues and his unwillingness to support the Italian peninsula whilst deligating it to petty Germanic chieftains and tribes, eventually cedeing his authority to a much stronger, better organized, and more efficient Carolingian regime.
@RettaDottrina Also, tying the rise of the Carolingians to the eventual rise of rock music is one of the most ignorant statements one can proffer. You are telling me in geographic areas of "orthodox" Christianity there is no secular music traditions that have evolved since the medieval period?? haha, wow, professor.
@RettaDottrina BEING THAT YOU ADHERE TO THE CHURCH AND NOT TO THE LORD HIMSELF ONE ON ONE YOU BIBLICALLY ARE DEFINED AS A WHORE, A SLUT WHO SERVES ANOTHER MASTER OTHER THAN HER GOD GIVEN HUSBAND THE LORD OF GLORY , THE KING OF KINGS ETERNAL, THE CREATOR JESUS THE SON AND THE FATHER ONE YOU ARE CAST OUT AS A DIVORCED SLUT, ABANDONED TO THE WOLVES, THE PREDATORS TO DIE THE TWO DEATHS NOT JUST ONE.! It might seem too different of a perspective, but personally I wouldn't classify these chants as Crhistian as i would classify them as holy -period. The reason for which I'm saying this is because I am a Muslim, and I find these chants more than inspiring. Elevating the soul is the least i would say/feel when I listen to this. Moses, Christ, and Muhammad never intended for all that's happened for the past 2 millenia to occur. Religion is only flawed with the touch of Man.
Though this is beautiful I loathe over the thought that during this time in human history many people were killed and cursed in the name of christ as they are still today. This song only reminds me of all blood shed then to today for the blood that was shed by the savior of man. I dont think this is what Christ had in mind.
@MattyTheMole All that Christ seems to have had in mind was to simply offer us salvation, not to force us to act in any certain way. Having a free-will and still striving to always do what is right over what is wrong is what I believe is the meaning of life. If we didn't have the option to err and do wrong, how would we truly understand what "the Good/right" is?
@xgreciandelightx If we didn't have the option to err and do wrong, how would we truly understand what "the Good/right" is? @Yaxwitz These chants are not original; they didn't passed trough the centuries to us, unfortunately. We can't rebuilt them, beacause of many historical problems.

Yes. The opening line is "Dominus dixit ad me," which translates into, "the Lord said to me," from Psalm 2:7 (vetus or pre-Jerome vulgate Latin translation). In almost every instance in the Psalms, King David the Psalmist uses "Lord" to refer to God.

@acerb45666555 it is very close because it was the same church having its roots deeply into the middle east and mediterannean culture. when the great schism happened, the byzantine Church kept this originality hence the name of orthodox .. the western Church influenced by the Germanic and Nordic culture evolved somehow differently .... But at the source we are the same....
i am quite shocked by how common with byzantine music it sounds...the scale, the ornamentation,everything...its natural cuz its a very old piece...but i had never heard of something so old before. soooo beautiful...thanks.
@MedievalFairy THE SPIRIT, THE SPIRIT OF GOD, THE GREAT SPIRIT, THE VERY SPIRIT OF CHRIST IS ENGAGED IN WARFARE, AGRESSIVE WARFARE TO DESTROY ALL BARRIERS AGAINST HIMSELF.! THE CHOSEN FEW ONLY WILL YIELD UNCONDITIONALLY SURRENDERING UNTO THE LORD OF ALL LORDS ETERNAL AND THE THE ARMIES ANGELIC VICTORIOUS TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO EDEN AND NOT THE GARDEN.! WHEN JESUS WASHED THE APOSTLES FEET HE WAS COMPLETELY "NAKED", AS THOSE BEFORE HIM WORE THE CLOTHING OF SHAME.! ALL RELIGIONS = THE LIE.!
Another interesting thing is that the manuscript displayed from 2:46 to 3:26 apppears to be written in Dutch. This surprises me as the manuscript seems to predate the reformation when lookint to it's style. I think it's a prayerbook becouse what I can read states: "Glory is to the father, the son, and the holy spirit. as it was in the beginning, now and for ever without an end. Amen." But still I am no bible scholar nor very well known with christian traditions.

Hmm but I do not know of any manuscripts being damaged in this way. If a manuscript would have been damaged, they would just have trhown the entire thing in the fires, in stead of painstakingly removing the faces. And still, the iconoclash was mainly aimed at sculptures.
Could it be that the manuscript was in the hand of muslim scholars for their study, but removed the faces?
You are probably referring to the Reformation iconoclasm, while I am referring to the earlier Byzantine iconoclasm which was mainly focused on frescos and icons. Why exclude the probability that the faces be erased but the book not destroyed. Iconoclasts were still christians. They would erase the faces in the pages of the Bible but not destroy the Bible itself (which would be a sin even for them I am sure).
@Callixtinus I think iconoclasm was a reaction to compete with the rapid expansionism of Islam which prohibited images of any sort that would border along the lines of idolatry. The Church settled this matter during the 7th Ecumenical Council, stating that images are to be venerated and not worshiped. Iconoclasm further developed a rift between Western Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, as well as losing much of the empire's land over to the Muslims.
