  • longest intro ever, but good video

  • Cool New Guitar Art Video!

  • no words.. Amazing.. like

  • @IrfanKhokharFilms thanks a lot

  • Really , really cool and clear Video my friend!

  • Out of Interest, how do you record now? You said you had changed your method?

  • @Prs4ever111 At the moment I'm waiting for my Axe Fx 2 to arrive, so I'll use that one to record all the guitars then

  • @guitarDouchebaggery: Awesome ;)

  • Hey man, just a simple question! What mics do you use to record the guitar ?

  • @williamgag a Sennheiser e906, it's great

I like it more than a Shure SM57

  • Hello dude I like this idea of your box however, could you tell me if when you record inside the box, do you get any kind of boxy sound or too much bass in the recording, due the amp being trapped in the box? Thanks..

  • @megadarkstar82 no, I got no boxyness

it's just really dry sounding, no reverb whatsoever

the sound changes slightly when the box is closed, so if it's too bassy you just change the EQ of the amp a little

  • @guitarDouchebaggery Thanks man, I'm gonna start building mind soon thanks to your video, thanks..

  • Great performance! Here works a great talent!!! Hot intro!!! (...says a keyboarder!) :)

  • I think this would be the most easiest way for an Isolation cab, 'cuz this way, you can easily dump in any amp, or any speaker cabinet (depending on how big you want the isolation box), as well as multiple or different mics. Hence, different sounds in the isolation cabinet. If you were to build one with a speaker and a mic, You'd have to measure the speaker's diameter, find the right sounding one, and figure out the right wiring to get it functional, and you would use only one microphone for it.

  • @Airboy15 absolutely

that way you can use your favorite cab etc.

    thanks for watching

  • This is humongous! I could not possibly fit that anywhere in my house.

  • @UncleTito72 you could put lots of stuff on top of it though

or you can also built it for just a 1x12 cab

  • Amazing

  • I love the intro, and the cab is EPIC... if it was a tiny bit bigger you could get a drummer in there, I wish I had the space for such things!

  • Hey dude. You even make an iso cabinet where the speaker is built into the box instead of putting the amp in? Cause Im looking into making my own Iso Cab. Just dunno what speaker I ought to go for? I think the speaker is the first step.

Just dunno which to choose? Id like to go for a speaker which is unlikely to burst so I figure going for a higher wattage amp would be best? But then again will having a speaker which is too high wattage not get the same sound from an amp if it cant reach it.

  • @Aappleyard2a yes, that also works, I've seen some isolation boxes, where the speaker was built directly into the isolation box, so without a cabinet.

Some guitar speakers can take a bit more watt than others, but you can always take the standard route and use a V30.

Rather use a low wattage amp for recording. Using e.g. a tripple Rectifier with 150W into a single speaker could surely break that speaker at higher volumes

  • @guitarDouchebaggery I am actually looking into making a dual purpose iso cabinet. With both Guitar and Bass Speakers in it.. 2 seperate inputs and 1 mic output or maybe 2.. I wont use both at the same time.. (who konws might get somes cool sounds D: ) But Yeh. Im not so *in the know* with guitar stuff as I am primerily a Drummer hehe. Btw dude your intro really is awesome!

  • @Aappleyard2a thanks dude

well, when recording bass guitars, most people just record directly, or mix a little bit of a miked amp with a direct signal. But there is nothing wrong with having your own way of recording bass

  • great stuff man and richie kotzen rules :D

  • You deserve more than 5000 views!!!

  • One question, the space in front of the speaker, is there any rules how small it can be?? i mean that isolation box is huge ..

  • @tpulse2001 it's not essential to build as big as this

just plan enough space that a mic (+acoustic foam) will fit in front of the speaker

  • @guitarDouchebaggery ok thnx , i just thought if there was any difference in sound when building a bigger box in front of the speaker where the microphones is...i've built a box which is 30cm in depth and the size is the same high and width as the box is...the acoustic foam and my mic fits in it :)..

  • @tpulse2001 yes, that should work perfectly. When close miking, the room sound is less important. Also, because of the acoustic foam there shouldn't be any noticeable room sound anyways.

  • Hi, I'm interested on knowing how you're recording now? at the end of the video you mention that you recording differently now.

  • @tonyr4music I had an Axe Fx (by Fractal Audio), but I sold it last month, now I'm on the waiting list for the Axe Fx II

The Axe Fx is a great unit, it sounds absolutely realistic

  • great video my friend!!

  • Love it!

  • Great tutorial! But IMHO fiberglass isolation is better than acoustic foam. It's unpleasantly to work with, but result worth it (I've use it to build vocal booth).

  • @Betterburg thanks man

nice, fiberglass isolation sounds like a good idea

  • What do you think about the axetrak OR randall Isolation box ?

  • @xwigwango I haven't tried those, they're probably also good.

My isolation box was cheaper than either one of them and you could fit several mics in there, use any cabinet that you want etc.

However, the randall or axetrax are far less space consuming. So there are pro's and cons.

  • Excellent video! Did you see the one from Bumblefoot? Its quite the same, but your isolation box is better than his LOL

  • @FeelingShred yes, I've seen that one. He also built a really interesting tunnel-thing for his ambiance mic

  • Informitive man! Also loving the JB/KG Shirt ;)

  • Nice! Also funniest intro ever! :D

  • very cool to share this on youtube.... oh and i like your little touch of humour in the intro music...

  • what kind of mics you using?

    and pre-amp?

  • @spliffron my favorite is a Sennheiser e906

the other one is a Heil PR30, but in the end I was mostly using the e906

the preamp is a Focusrite Platinum Twintrack Pro

  • Really nice video mate, great job on the isolation booth as well ;-)

  • @RobChappers oh nice, a comment from a famous guitarist :)

  • That is PERFECT Georg !! Excellent Job.

It would appear that we have more than ONE thing in common Mr. Craftsman LOL, Seriously, Great work, this also came out how do you say...ist gutt ya

    Ina bistle duetch spreken

    Dino

  • awseome dude, what camera are you using?

  • @drpez12 for the new videos I'm using a Sony A55 (with a Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2,8 XR Di II LD)

  • i'd just make an airtight box and suck the air out.

  • @tsirosgoddammit or just record in outer space?

  • @guitarDouchebaggery don't you need air for sound to even exist?

  • @twiggymac without air, it would be super quiet ;)

  • you legend, this video solves so much, ive been wanting to make one but no sure what to do and this is just the answer to it all, thanks for putting this vid on youtube, im sure so many people will appreciate it

  • @MrBatshitcrazy thanks a lot man :)

  • can u do a video on your recording after u play it???

like when u edit it through your software??

    what do u use??

  • @PM3yer I think I'll do a video like that sometime. However, being good at recording/producing takes years of practice (also I would need to practice that a bit more ;))

it won't be possible to explain it all in a short video

  • @guitarDouchebaggery wat software do you use?

  • @PM3yer my DAW is Cubase 5 (but there's also a 6 out already) and then I have lots of plugins etc.

  • "aismeisch box" :D

  • My compliments, Georg

  • that was kickass

  • geile sache, echt super :) bin begeistert :D
