  • actually music is better back then mainstream or not

  • This video pretty much depicts what I loved about music videos back then, very surreal, raw and gritty. It really eally gives me a very nostalgic feeling of when I was in Middle School and I'd stay up late Sunday nights to fall asleep watching 120 Minutes.

As for the Deftones/Far cover, it's among one of my favorite songs and is just as good as the original performed by Jawbox.

  • I prefer deftones version this versions is good and I highly respect jawbox but deftones are in my top 5 bands so what do you expect

  • i just heard the original version just now. i bought b-sides and rarities when it first came out(back in 05).i dont think that its because im so used to the tones version but this just lacks passion.give that guy some auto-tune or something...the deftones version is definitely better....................IMO

  • i like jawbox a lot, but come on, RESPECT DEFTONES, they're great. Why can't we enjoy a fucking cover and shut up? It's a tribute!!

  • it's actually covered by FAR, with Chino only on backup. fuck knows how it ended by being 'covered by Deftones' and ending up on their B-sides and Covers albums.

  • The second I saw the dead dog I remembered seeing this on Beavis and Butthead 5 years ago

  • I went to check out the Deftones version after reading all the blather on here, what a complete joke! It's like a fucking Idol version - a straight copy! Even the drum riffs!! Are you fucking kidding me??? Back in the day (late 70's, 80's) every band had one signature cover they did and it was a complete rework of the track, THEY MADE IT THEIR OWN. Also for those complaining about Jay's singing, we got nothing to talk about, you are def tone def. Fucking hell!

  • Incredible song.......

  • Jawbox > Deftones

  • Kim was a great no nonsense bass player

  • Deftones =)

  • this song is soo good !

  • The chord voicings throughout this song are super airy and dissonant. Awesome.

  • deftones version is much cooler, but i give lot respect to this band for creat this song

  • ratherdeadinside, why would someone looking at a Jawbox video devote all his or her time worrying about the 'mainstream'?

Music, or the potential is there, always there, but there's nothing wrong with saying that this era, eg. Jawbox, Fugazi, Jesus Lizard was a good time for rock bands, shall we say 'independent' rock bands? When indie rock actually meant 'rock'.

  • the bass player lady moves like the guys from Tomahawk :)

  • EPIC.

  • lol, i'm in this video.

  • When I used to be in a band, we recorded with J. Robbins in Baltimore. He's an amazing and creative individual.

  • now and forever...one of the best songs written by humans...no wonder Moreno covered it....

  • Fuck yes! JAWBOX! These were the days!!!

  • I heard the Deftones version first... then looked this up. And I adore both versions! Both are on my ipod regularly and I have no complaints about either version. They are both great in their own way and both bands are awesome :)

  • I heard the Deftones cover first, but this dudes voice sounds great! I should check out more stuff by them... He sounds...I don't know, normal? Like he's not even trying to sing, but it still sounds good.

  • @NaturalEvil1 Nicely put. I agree lol

  • beautifully written song.

  • does anyone know how he got that tone for the intro guitar? I've been looking for this type of tight, bright, snappy, loud as hell sound forever and am never satisfied :(

  • @bambismash Get a Telecaster?

  • i like music and 120 minutes

  • i love music

  • Everytime i think of this song I think of 120 minutes

  • lol not the best thing eva, sure, but it reminds me of bein in 10th grade, gettin stoned, and screwin my boyfriend and i'll always love it.

  • How come the two highest rated comments are total opposites? Whatever, I should just remind myself to listen to the song and ignore the comments...

  • One of the best moments in 1994

  • @greasesicle 1993!

  • Amazing song! I can't get over it.

  • what does mean this song?

  • @Zevangelion23 It gives off a pretty sexual vibe. So read the lyrics in context of 'sex'.

  • I wonder if any of those kids grew up to be in bands

  • SA-VOR-Y GLYC-ER-INE THE-NINE-TIES

  • i dont know which one i love more.. the original or deftones' cover!! Either way what an incredible song

  • This has to be the most creepy music video I've seen since Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun, I love it! This track is totally sweet too, I came here from the Deftones cover and am having a hard time deciding which is better. Now I am going to have to check out Jawbox's entire catalogue.

  • hmm ive never heard this i found it on someones playlist. i like it:)

  • Another classic 90's music video.

  • I heard this on Beavis & Butthead lol

  • the bassist is my history teacher no joke

  • @fatshady95

Ask her how amazing it feels having Deftones cover one of her songs.

  • oh god. 3:15 to the end is so sick, i can't stop listening

  • I agree w/ HumanGamer! This music is rare and one of a kind. If you don't like it... don't listen. I was 15 years old when I bought "GRIPPE". The album changed the way I looked @ music.

  • The chord change from 2:25-2:40 is definitely one of the most emotionally amazing changes ever.

Like, the contrast between both chords is sublime.

  • I have to agree...alternative rock will never be this good again.

  • WTF?!?!? What is it with people drawing lines to and comparing JAWBOX with deftones?!?! Because they covered this song?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!? JAWBOX is the grandfather! Have some respect! JAWBOX is a gem of a band that hails from an era where great bands remained "indie" or more underground and not as accepted into the mainstream mass, (for the most part) and will most likely never get the due that they deserved. This has NOTHING to do with defones..so please STOP with the comparisons!

  • @HumanGamer How is Jawbox "the grandfather" if Deftones was formed up before Jawbox (and has been active for far longer)?

  • @HisDivineShadow245 LOL!! You're joking right?Jawbox is an "older"band and formed in the late 80's to 90's. JAWBOX and great, great grandfather FUGAZI come from a completely different genre and style! And before Jawbox, the members were in different bands playing and developing what would later become Jawbox, while deftones were still kids trying to write songs in the garage and figure out a name. My point is,"recognition." It just bothers me when people don't recognize the original influence.

  • @HisDivineShadow245 You don't have to like Jawbox or Fugazi (god knows why you wouldn't) but people should atleast know that this song came from a great band (JAWBOX) , a great genre and time of music that you could never replicate. And I'm glad deftones recognize it and that's why they covered this amazing JAWBOX song.

  • @HisDivineShadow245 ..... I'm glad deftones covered this song ..... because now you and others know about JAWBOX.

  • @HumanGamer

I hear other songs of jawbox and are so fucking different to this. I don't like the others, too punkie for me.

  • They don't make um like this no more....

  • The soul.

  • great energy and riff ..but the singer for me anyway does not help this track,.. actually more of a negative... sorry dude.... Is there an instrumental version available?

  • @yesjakeyes, could not agree more!!

  • Why is it that every time I come to a classic song, there's some nostalgic fuck saying something like "Ohhh, music will never be as good as this." or whatever. Have some fucking faith in music. You need to look for good music, simple as that. If you think that music in general sucks these days, what have you been doing? Only paying attention to the mainstream? Fuck you.

  • @ratherdeadinside Oh god this... this a thousand times.

  • @ratherdeadinside this is why I'm a hipster haha

  • @ratherdeadinside basically what I want to say in every comments section on youtube. Music is always good, you just need to be less of a lazy fuck and find it now that 120 minutes isnt around to do the work for you.

  • @ratherdeadinside Don't forget the fact that if people hate the newer age music and wanna stick in the past, all they have to do is listen to the music they love from back then. Nobody's telling them "you can't just listen to old music that you like". Music lives forever. Songs from the 50's are still around places, the internet keeps music that people like alive. They can shut up and just listen to the "good" old music. I myself still have faith in music, Just some people need to wake up D:

  • @ratherdeadinside Hell Yeah

  • @ratherdeadinside I agree with you. Perfect example is suggested by the uploader's comments . . . the Deftones---Diamond Eyes is an epic album. It's an album I actually enjoy listen to from beginning to end. It's funny to read these comments by little 15 y.o. fetuses clinching so tightly to Zepplin, Beetles, and Hendrix while blindly ignoring modern music, some of which is actually talent-backed. Like a mutant philosopher once said, "open your mind."

  • @ratherdeadinside YOU SAID IT!

your comment is my new facebook status.

  • @ratherdeadinside Chill out, dude.

  • @iwannacookie29 lol.

  • @ratherdeadinside I think I love you.

  • @ratherdeadinside calm down man. i get what your saying but you seem mad.

  • @ratherdeadinside in the last 10 months since your comment 9 kabillion bas 1 bands came and went without finding a place in the hearts of those of true music ,

  • Wow! This fella can't sing to save his life. Deftones and Far make this version look stupid.

  • Can't watch the video while I hear this...too detracting. This is a wholly sonic experience. Saw them in Cambridge MA in the 90s at the Middle East, and the live show was amazing.

  • Can't watch the video while I hear this...too detracting. This is a wholly sonic experience.

  • whoever directed this music video is a genius

  • Dun Dun DUN!!! hey angel Dun Dun DUN whatever Dun Dun DUN position, Dun Dun DUN we consider it Dun Dun DUN to put you in Dun DUn DUN, Dun Dun DUN you'll protest Dun DUN DUUUUNNNN your Complicity!!

  • Just noticed the little girl turning off grandpa's Oxygen. I already thought it was the creepiest birthday party ever. Now it just got a whole lot creepier.

  • This is a goddamned classic.

  • @godlessdustin I agree on The Used part, but Thrice isn't very imbecilic.

  • 3:15

  • Comparing bands is not really that cool because music is not a competitive sport, but I prefer Jawbobox much more than The Deftones all of the time. Jawbox's " Novelty" album is filled with excellent songs.

  • ola checa mi video esta vien chilo

  • Word the fuck up!!

  • This is probably the coolest music video ever. I hope Jawbox won an award for this. They were a great band.

  • both this and the deftones cover give me goosebumps

  • Love this song! I first heard the Deftones' cover of this song - am now inspired to find more Jawbox songs!

  • Rarely does an original AND the cover both kick so much ass!

  • fuck! dc had some good bands during the early 90's

  • Where has music gone?

  • how can you like this........... there terrible

  • @back2basiczzz AHAHAHAHA you like linkin park, i wouldnt be talking shit you fucking faggot. now im just gonna let you think about what you just said, if you think linkin park is good music compared to this, maybe just kill yourself now.

  • @PrinceDotPoison Linkin Park blows hard, but in light of reading your comment/resonse, both of you are probably t[w]eens anyway, so neither of your opinions matter. Listen to what you like and let people who enjoy music that you hate quietly and enjoy the fact that you listen to better music in silence.

  • @back2basiczzz Says you woman.

  • The riff at 3:23 gives me orgasms

  • this video is hilarious

  • i love deftones cover more than original song xd

  • I saw these guys when I was 16 in Gainsville with Superchunk. Best time of my life

  • jawbox was incredible. pick up "for your own special sweetheart" and the self titled if you can still find it.

  • @xxwarpiexx you say green day i say black flag, you say breaking benjamin, i say slayer, you say three days grace, i say type o negative, you say linkin park,i say helmet, you say evanescence i say deftones.

  • @xxwarpiexx Omg in that list there is only ONE really original band and that is Nirvana. Those other bands are merely an excuse for harder styles and the template that other people have of our genres. I suggest you start looking for more artistic bands. Jawbox is one of the pioneers of post-hardcore, along with Black Box and Fugazi. Modern post-hardcore is really artistic. Go listen to alexisonfire, The Used, Thrice, bands like that, bands who are awesome live, contrary to Linking Park...

  • @Byzantic settle down its a chain comment

  • @xxwarpiexx you do know it's possible to insert your own favorite bands in them, right? ......

  • @Byzantic You mention the names The Used and Thrice, and I automatically know you're an imbecile.

  • @xxwarpiexx all the bands except nirvana are just as much bullshit as the other. crap like slipknot and linkin park are the reason why rock n roll is dying!

  • BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER.

  • check out the Deftones cover its freaking amazing

  • people around me were different when this was around

  • this song's banging, can't believe i've never heard it before

  • saw em open up for stp at william and mary hall 1994, they rocked....

  • love this song :)

Deftones did a good cover though

  • This sends me on a trip down the memory lane. Great band, great songs. Got this on vinyl, I guess I have to find a way to listen it again...

  • Great song, great band- Check out Clutch!!!

  • It depresses me that some people don't know The Name, DEFTONES! :(

This is a pretty sick band though, I'm diggin' it.

  • It depresses me that some people don't know The Name, DEFTONES! :(

  • If u like this band u should also listen to Chore, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbox, Season to Risk, The Jesus Lizard, and Girls Against Boys classic underrated bands

  • @radiotrey sunny day real estate are awesome

  • I grew up on this band. I agree, they did deserve more attention. You should listen to Novelty, that was their heyday

  • Its a great song, but the vocals are....well I like the Deftones better.

  • WHO THE FUCK ARE DEFTONES???

  • great song!

  • the original...kewl

  • Does anyone know the name of the director?

    Thanks in advance!

  • music will never be this amazing ever again.

  • @yesjakeyes you su*k

  • nothing hotter than a female bassist totally rocking out!

just discovered this band today, i'm enjoying this a lot. :]

  • @SkeletonMr SHIT, you woulda LOVED the 90's. Fem bassist were in like every band.

  • @Zencomeseasy

ahhh, man. i was born in 92, but i probably missed out on somethings since i was just trying to 'grow up.' why didn't i know of these guys until now? damn.

can you name me some other bands i totally missed out on, bro? i want to make up for it now. haha

  • @SkeletonMr 90's bands are the best i was born in '94 so i missed out even more but i've madeup for it (:

listen to : velocity girl , pavement , sunny day real estate , texas is the reason.

  • @djangobaby

ah, i know two of those bands already, I will check out the other two pronto!

    thanks, a lot! :)

  • @SkeletonMr No problem man (;

i like people who appreciate good music.

  • what a brilliant song. i miss bands like this.

  • cool gifts! ...looks like the best party EVER!

  • their drummer is so fucking bad ass.

  • This record is just brilliant. One of my all-time favorites. I'd take it to the island, definitely.

  • hey angel! whatever position..We consider fit to put you in

Your protest, your complicity.. one hand will wash another.. hehe

  • not that good of a video but song is ok

  • This is such a great song. This and the Deftones version sound almost exactly the same other than the vocal range.

  • I prefer the Deftones Version =)

  • Kim is hot

  • I think the deftones did the song justice, but the original just has this really tense and uncomfortable atmosphere to it. I love how it starts like that then it goes into that whole chorous that just draws you into this sense of calmness and sort of hypnotizes you with the way it just sort of drones on and then the verse again but 10 times more intense comes at you like a surprise ice bath after a a hard night of boozing. Simply magnifique.

  • @stuckmode holly shit!! this is the most accurate description of this song ever... who the fuck are u bro??? u know ur shit! this song is a trip and kick all the ass it wants!!

  • @stuckmode agree

  • @stuckmode ... You HAD to have smoked pot and listened to this to have come up with that. Or maybe you're just a genius.

  • @stuckmode probably the best description I've seen for this song. Nice one.

  • this looks like a vid that beavis and butthead would have torn apart

  • @dpolle3 They did watch it in fact...but they didn't have a problem with it. Just said weird stuff about it.

  • @dpolle3 haha I just watched the episode where they did

  • @dpolle3 surprisingly they liked the video and thought it was a cool party

    watch?v=4W-6hE7X7wE

If that doesn't work, do a search for Beavis and Butthead Savory

  • 6th tape I ever bought, still rocks.

  • my whole day has changed, this song warps my entire perspective....

  • I think i like the deftones a little more just cuz of chinos bvoice

  • @22rawrrawr How does this even compare to Deftones?

  • @Caughttherail see i grew up jamming to the deftones well not grew up but thats what i would listen to all the time and i fell in love with em and there cover is very similar but chinos voice is godly

  • Seen that recent performance on NBC, they still rock the shit out of me.

  • incredible song, although I like the original 7" vinyl version a little better (pick it up if you can find it)... Anyway they just remastered this album "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" so pick it up!!!! Jawbox -- one hell of an underrated unknown band.

  • such a great song and music video

    really cool concept.

  • It's spelled grammar.

  • Feed me,,,

  • BRAINS!

  • BRAINS!!

  • BRAINSS!!!

  • Deftones and Far covered it

  • I was in 8th grade when this came out and it's still awesome.

  • the bass play always reminded me of that hot mute girl in highschool that just smiled and always sort of creeped you out in a way but you still totally wanted to get wit it enshit.

  • Amazing song.

Is it true that Abe (drummer for Deftones) owns all the rights to Jawbox?

  • @Threecreation according to an article in AltPress last month, DisChord records bought back the Jawbox catalog from Atlantic records a couple years ago. Thus the re-releases the last couple of years.

  • Desoto records (run by members of Jawbox) bought back the rights to their major label albums. They along with Dischord have rereleased the Atlantic records on vinyl last year.

  • no that is not true.

  • this video was on beavis and butthead, it was awesome
