  • with the Great Luther Vandross on background vocals!!!

  • love bowie...he would have made a nice Joker...this outfit proves it

  • @pbradman - If you went to the New Romantic clubs at the time, there was absolutely no contradiction between Bowie & New Romanic - he was part of it, and most of the new romantics had been into Bowie for many years.

  • This is real live. Sanborn on Sax, awesome. Voice a bit scratchy there at the end, a little too much blow, David?

He looks like he transitioning to his Thin White Duke phase here. Nice orange 'do.

  • 4 people have never been Young Americans, lol.

  • who is the conga guy??

  • 12 string guitar....impressive.

  • Look at him, simply bursting with talent and charisma.

    Bowie i ADORE you!

  • That's a very young and chubby Luther Vandross on back-up vocals!!

  • Those shoes. Oh lord I had those shoes, lol.

  • Damn, this is good..

  • Where did Bowie's genius go

  • @delawarr1970 Into retirement in NYC.

  • and that's what LIVE music is supposed to be like... with real saxes and no auto tune...

  • glad he didnt go for the high bit at the end with that hoarse voice.

  • his voice is terrible in that performance, he snorted too much, that shit give a nasty throat irritation when abused

  • @quaxk ... the two pack a day cigarette habit didn't help either.

  • I'm sure thass Luther Vandross!!

  • @TheMrMarilyn It is him.

  • Look at Luther Vandross singing back up LOL Fat Luther!!!!!

  • If anyone is wondering which musician has been one of the biggest influences on Scott Weiland throughout his music career, and especially over the last several years, all one need do is watch this performance.

  • One of my all time favorites, not just a Bowie favorite - always bring backs great memories - the 70's weren't all bad!

  • What phenomenal footage!!! Not so long ago we could only dream of seeing stuff like this. Thanks youtube!!

  • @TheLar1969

Exactly!!! All this great footage locked up in archives and people's closets. No one was putting it out there figuring there was no money in it.

  • I SEEK POLE SHIFT SURVIVAL GROUP

  • Poor microphones

  • even this coked he s still above everyone else as a performer. what a star...

  • i heard the news today oh boy ... so fantastic

  • he looks a vampire

  • love how he really gets into it at the end, watched this with my Dad last week. Legend doesn't come close.

  • what a tune!!! Remember it's about Americans!!! Lets try to enjoy this posting of a cool concert for T.V. back in the day!!1

  • oh my gosh! truly amazing

  • IS HE LIVE OR DEAD?

  • @findagossip fully alive! x

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • chafaa....

  • I must tell you, Mr. Bowie looks different in a Zoot Suit. Moreover, as far as the lyrics are concerned, there's too much of them for a bimbo to handle. I'm a "Young American" from Washington whom, incidentially can do a mean Richard Nixon; I wonder, if I was Mr. Bowie's Bassist, would he have a problem with me doing Mr. Nixon during his tune? Only God knows. Nice tune, by the way.

  • Thin white Duke got soul

  • LUTHER VANDROSS singing back-up!!! Perfection.

  • defiantly from (and probably on) a different planet, he is too cool for this world

  • What a great band Bowie had at the time. David Sanborn on the sax. Carlos Alomar (with an afro) on guitar. And if you look to the left of the backing vocalists, I think that's a young Luther Vandross. Lots of good memories here.

  • i carried a razor for 20 years but got so depressed by the weight of the damned thing

  • unbelievably cool.

  • Check out a young Luther Vandross singing background!

  • wudda looked so cool n funny if they'd designed a suit to fit those tent-pole arms without the daft shoulder pads

  • gotta love that sax.

  • @TheSarahfran Thats David Sanborn on Sax

  • The transition from Diamond Dogs, to the "Young Americans" groove, was amazing.Only a true artist could come up with something like that.

  • gotta love the orange in his hair

  • 0:38 isn't he sniffing?haha

  • Always good to hear classic rock, especially by one of our Icons..........America should be flattered with their name in sync...

  • Awwww go head Luther!

  • yup, luther vandross...

  • sanborn, iconic soli... iconic...

  • 29 year old David Sanborn on sax! To be 29 and playing sax live on national TV w/ David Bowie...

  • Such a great version of a masterpiece during the golden age of rock & roll.

  • he was sick, and he still performed like a pro. get over it. nice historical footage.

  • love the shooooos he he

  • His voice is very weak in this performance, but it was still great, and he's always cute.

  • sublime genius!!!

  • a voice like sand and glue !!!

  • best live performance on a tv show

Czytałam też o heroinie i ogórkach...:)

  • david "drugs" bowie when he was near grave

  • say no to coke but yes to entheogens

  • Miss u big Luther!

  • True blue-eyed soul!

  • Esse cara é foda de mais!

  • the 3 people who don't like this must be bieber fans...get the f... out of here!

  • The rare human that is original, the rest of us have to act to be out of the envelope. and accep we dont have the gift to be born special.

  • Bowie invented the New Romantics even before the New Romantics knew what New Romantacism was... evidence? This video.

  • Comment avoir plus de classe? je me le demande...

  • Damn he was skinny (all the Coke and stress) Im sure all the Americans loved him and said"Welcome, We love you.....Now fcking eat something!!"

  • Fantastic. And Luther Van Dross.

  • CO TO ZA KASETY W TYM WIDELE DAWIDA BOWI DAJ

  • did anybody notice the brother singing back-up in the blue is MR. LUTHER VANDROSS R.I.P LUTHER UR MISSED BUT NOT 4 GOTTEN!!.

  • Thanks for posting this...too bad people seem so fixated on Bowie's coke use. Fact is, he was roastin', And that band? That's a young David Sanborn back there on alto sax. It's too bad about the drug fixation-people seem to forget that some artist's best work happened during their period of addiction-eg, Ray Charles, Charlie Parker, Bowie, Lewis Carroll, etc. Let's enjoy their art, K?

  • At about 2:46 at the back of the stage behind the lead guitarist, you can see a young Earl Slick :D

  • I heard the news today ...oh boy! ... The Beatles - A Day in the Life

  • Christ he looks terrible, thank god he got off the coke, he looks about a month from being dead.

  • Actually 1975

  • Clarify - on the studio version, I heard that Bowie plays the sax. Is that true?

  • tasty....

  • @TheMrMarilyn - em this 1 iz actually 1 of me favourites, even thoooo his best "period" acording to me was ziggy stardust or whatyasay, a?

  • Cocaine aint good for your voice, but this is still class.

  • cocaine does not cause a sore throat,a nasal sound or a dripping nose but no sore throat, really were you there? idiot

  • @midlocal I don't think it does either, plus he coughed once or twice in that interview. Seems like he caught a cold around the time.

  • @midlocal it is widely known that the thin white duke had quite the cocaine problem around this time. heck watch the video of the interview. he's incredibly coked out. twitching and sniffling. doing tons of coke makes for that annoying mucus drip into the back of your throat. which, if you do enough coke (which he certainly was) will def lead to a sore throat or other throat issues. not to mention that doing tons of cocaine will usually lead to smoking tons of cigarettes.....

  • How fucking hot does Ava Cherry look? swooonnn....

  • Sweeeeeet!!!! Thanks for posting!!

  • My favourite vid on youtube. Go on, slate me. But, hey, a REAL raw brilliant performance by David Bowie, Luther vandross in the background, David Sanborne and there's a story or two more there, really, I could listen to this over and over again (actually I DO). Love it.
