I think he has so many animals because he has grass outside his house and torches everywhere. Animals tend to spawn where there is grass and light. They can spawn all day and night with that setup. They probably trampled his crops too, which is what likely happened to the wheat. Oh yeah, dead bunny hat for the loss.
