This guy is a tremendous actor! The Scarecrow from Nolan's films has the perfect touch of gruesomeness. Cillian Murphy just brought that to life. Too bad he didn't appear for too long on The dark knight. They should bring him on The Dark Knight Rises. I'm having a feeling that it will have a LOT of villains.
Whoa, hold the fuckin' phone. In one scene (in the frist video) when Falcone is repeating the words Scarecrow, Rachel asks Crane `What's Scarecrow?`, Crane tells her, `Patients suffering delusional episodes often focus their paranoia on an external tormentor, usually one conforming to Jungian archetypes. In this case, a scarecrow`. So, why is Crane also saying Scarecrow when he's in Arkham? He saw Batman when poisoned, not Scarecrow.
@RustInPeace44 Notice how he says "Scarecrow" with a sort of admiration, not fear. That's to show he's finally truly becoming Scarecrow, not a side effect of the fear gas. Just look at the look on his face when he says it.
1:54-1:55 god the way he says "won't we?" is so HOT!!!!
1:05-1:34 = Hottest part of the whole damn movie. I love watching him look up like that like he's curious and nervous yet excited. And his profile..damn he's just hot.
I love how Cillian Murphy played this role. He made it so clear that the man's completely unhinged without going over the top. And he looks so adorably excited when Batman shows up. I want to give him a cookie. And a hug.
That last line is brilliant. "I'm here to help!" I love that he's so totally mad that he actually thinks he's being helpful. It's kind of cute, in a sad way.
@IAmAgainstFatPeople the dude got tazered in the face incase you didn't notice lol.. that shit hurts, Rachel Dawes got out her tazer pointed it at his face and shot, 3 or 4 little darts imbedded themselves in his face and shot him full of a few thousand volts of electricity... to say ouch would be an understatement.
What does Crane say right after he says "There's nothing to fear but fear itself", right before he gets tasered? It kinda sounds like "I can hear that", but it's hard to hear what he says.
He says "I've been here to help..." then he gets tasered. In this moment in the scene Johnathan Crane and scarecrow are seperated into two characters and Crane is the one speaking in this scene.
When Crane has the mask on, the first thing he says to her is "Who do you fear?" But if you listen closely, it sounds more like "Who does your hair?" XD
hey i'm confused about this toxin. say you get sprayed with stuff; do the effects become permanent if you don't get the antidote within a time limit? if so don't you think think it was pretty cruel of batman to make a man go permanently insane? sure crane is obviously evil, but doesn't batman making him go insane contradict what bruce/batman said earlier about compassion? when he refused to execute the murderer?
I don't think Batman thought about that, he was just too pissed at Crane for spraying him and his girlfriend with the stuff. So it was revenge of sorts.
yeah, i guess his reasons for doing are understandable. still kinda bugs me though. especially when he burned the temple to the ground to avoid doing something like this.
on the other hand...this an example of what Ducard was telling him, something like "you fear your own rage". then at the end he's talking to rachel and he says something like "you were right, justice is about more than revenge". so guess deep down he knew it was wrong but couldn't control his anger.
p.s.: Ducard is the name of the character played by liam neeson right?, not sure if that's correct or not.
Ducard is the name of Liam Neeson's character. Too bad he died because I really found him an interesting character with more shades of gray to him than a typical Batman "villain." Ah well, at least Crane/Scarecrow is back for Dark Knight.
I doubt that the stuff made him go permanently insane. It's just a hallucinogenic drug, so the effects wear off after several hours. Also, remember that Wayne was dosed with the stuff (he smoked the blue flower) in the temple during his training and he received no antidote and he did not go insane.
but bruce did have to get the antidote when he got sprayed by crane, so did rachel. plus it seemed to make falcone go permanently insane, also with crane. so i think whatever crane did to it to weaponized it make the effects peramanent if you don't get the antidote in time.
It's also likely that Dr. Crane made his own antidote just in case of something like this. It would be easier for him to make it than it was for Lucius Fox because he already knew exactly what the stuff was. So after he broke out of the Asylum, he went back for the antidote and he's not permanently insane (he's just his usual form of crazy). That's just my theory, but I'm sure we'll find out in 7 days.
@694236 Depends on the dose. Batman and Rachel got hit with heavy amounts, which would've killed them without a cure. Falcone got enough to just make him slightly crazy, while Crane got hit with what I'd only think is somewhere between Falcone and Rachel's dose. I had to think that one over, so take it with a grain of salt.
Regardless, the movie itself is heavily flawed. I much prefer the sequel, major improvement (though this one's still pretty good.)
The look on Murphy's face after Crane gets sprayed by his own chemical is incredible. Completely just scared speechless.

I interpreted the "jungian archetypes" thing as Crane just lying to Dawes anyway @RustInPeace44
