  • No matter, what is the real rating.I wonder, those workers looks like astronauts.I'm from Russia, and didn't see the same at our substations.

  • Nice, but this is not about a 3000 kVA transformer. 3000 kVA = 3 MVA. That is not complicated at all. So what is the real rating?

  • i hate turning on large XFMRS

  • Nice to see the magic smoke stayed in!

  • Hood and gloves WTF 8I ... Mr. Westinghouse could be proud of you, operators :) !

  • Its always a good sign when you hit the switch and no loud bang follows :)

  • All this to microwave a hotdog.

  • IMMA CHARGIN' MAH LAZER!

  • Oh ho yeah, listen to that beast purr.

  • Что за костюмы на них? От поражения Дугой

  • опасная сука работа

  • by the looks of it

they are arc flash suits.. these suits are a cat 4 ( 100 cal rated suit) and the gloves are 1000v rated

we have to wear the same suits were i work and that's only dealing with 3.3kv and 13kv

but the suit is there to stop major burning but in most cases if the breaker blows its there to keep your body in one piece so they can try to identify your burnt body..

look up circuit breakers blowing up if you would like to see what they help to protect against

  • what are the sutes fore help

  • looks like the beginning to a what not to do electrical safety video

  • This video should be called "what nasa gets up to in there spare time"

  • what sute are they wearing

  • chuck norris play room

  • what sutse

  • @jumperlaur

    I would only assume 40cal.

  • scary movie

  • If you fart in the suit it stinks. And nobody will help you take it off.

  • How in the hell is he closing those switches with the locks on them? What kind of dumb-ass LOTO system is in use here, anyway? I was going to say they had their locks on the wrong place, you can't lockout that Square-D switch there, but obviously they knew that. And that model transformer is always noisy, I hate them.

  • what happens if he farts in the suit?

  • this video should come with the sound track "space man" lol

  • It's me or that dude looks a bit nervous from 3:30 to 3:40 ? xDD

  • @Nox665 yea

  • yeah, id be in those suits too. Arc flash is no joke. You're talking surface of sun temps... Not that you would feel it lol.

  • if its not mitsubishi, then its garbage

  • 40 Cal/cm2 Arc Flash Suits, you are correct!

Radiation suits are for "Back to the Future"!!! ;)

  • Less talking! More working!

  • Man that transformer sounds angry.

  • The beauty of work!

  • those suits if I'm not wrong are arc flash protection suits ?

  • @wolfcatsden Correct!!!

  • @wolfcatsden that would be correct

  • Esses profissionais estão usando todos os equipamentos de proteção individual, para manobrar estes Cúbiculos. Sendo assim, se houver um arco voltaico em algum dos paineis, estarão protegidos em parte. Como manda a norma técnica

  • Thanks for that post that was cool

  • angry! that transformer is not happy you made it work :)

  • @narcoti you`re right! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........

  • that sound is so awsome. why mechanical lever switches though? i thought the loads had to be switched on extremely fast to prevent arc flashing across internal contact buses? are the lever's actuating spring loaded mechanisms?

  • @evhgl87 when you put the contact with slow motion force on the lever, you have a slow action with your hand but in the internal of the switch, there is a contact on a spring loaded toggle who make the contact very very fast. It what make the sound your heard "clac".

  • @evhgl87 It does not matter how fast you move the lever, the spring loaded switch closes at a pre set rate, as you say it prevents arc flash

  • I've learn that you should always use your left hand and face opposite of the breaker in class, does it apply here ?

  • Pretty neat Guys! thanks for the post.

  • If this is the same set up where I work the reason for having the second switch is your load, the first switch is just the main tie cell and you through that switch first so that there is no load once you energize the main bus.

  • what are those suits ?

  • @rormecub Arc flash suits. Those are either 40 Cal/Cm2 or 80Cal/Cm2. As required per NFPA 70E. They are hot and uncomfortable as hell but they will save your ass in the event of an arc flash!!

  • @engalmotaz No, those are arc flash protection suits. I love how people talk about electricity as if they know stuff.

  • Great video, thanks for posting it.

    Couple of questions:

Why the 2 switches on each end? Some sort of bus ties?

Was this a commissioning test? Why was it shut down after a few minutes?

That transformer didn't sound too happy when it took on some load.

  • @mxslick50 The transformer noise depends on the point of the wave form when it was switched off, ie at the 0 point of the wave from little noise, at 180 degrees loadsa buzz, I had this explained at a HV authorising course. I have some live switching on my videos

  • Good footage of the work
