He was controlled by Ares at the time. He'd fuck up his entire timeline if he saw himself, essentially making playing through the first two games entirely useless. The reason that he didn't screw himself over the first time, was that his past self was already "killed." thus not being able to see him. How weird would it be to explain to your wife how you killed yourself for trying to kill your wife and child, and explaining it in events that, at that point, never happened?
