Hi there, in a maltese breed standard there is no such thing as Teacup! If you search the AKC and FCI maltese breed standard, you will not find this word used anywhere.

@biasedreporting you mean the teeny tiny size ones? they dont call it micro in the breed standard. That term is used by people who know little - very little - about this breed. hate too break it to you, but when they end up purposely breeding the extremely small ones, they end up living either short lives or with dozen of health issues. Be very careful where you buy a maltese. Only go to reputable ethical breeders if you wanted to save a heart-break or vet costs later on in the malt's life.

@katkoota Yes I saw one in my dentists office. lol..yeah I know how the "AFC" is anal about what they call things, I usually say something just to watch them squirm.

I do go to breeders to begin with unless it happens to be a rescue, in our case a breeder has one that had a heart murmur...so we picked him up and 2 months later he went into surgery and now he is expected to have a full normal life. We have him and our Bichon that we found at the pound believe it or not.

yeah! they are the same breed: Maltese

but each has his/her own personality. So different than one another - I love this fact. I think that this is why they are so bonded together and love each other so much :)

Kat, You're always so sweet to reply! We had to put Patches to sleep on 12/15 at 16 to put her out of pain.. devastating... ,we loved her sooo much!!! We just got a baby bichon- poo named Lily., not to replace Patches but we have love in our hearts for another. My point here , to viewers, is there can be light after so much sadness,. Minnie (16 mo. old maltese) loves Lily and they are inseparable. Seeing your PAIR of dogs together  gave us courage to get another! Thanx to u Kat

On the other hand, I am sure that she was one lucky pup to live 16 happy and healthy year with you; and sure that you have many fun memories with her.
