Kind of sad to see this... Andy holding a cigarette and looking down on a coffin. Foreshadowing much? If I'm not mistaken they filmed this special in November 1983, and six months later Andy was dead. :-(
What are you retarded? well if you knew Andy Kaufman, dodo. You would have understood what i have said. ANDY KAUFMAN DIED OF LUNG CANCER, which is what i was saying. So the point being, that it is ironic that he didn't smoke a day in his life(only for the character) fucking DUH. he died in 1984, because of CANCER LUNG CANCER okay. is that understood. so don't come trying to tell me otherwise.
Wow! Did you really call me retarted over this? Have a cow much? I was just stating a FACT. The smoke didn't kill Andy, because he DIDN'T smoke. Next time look up the facts instead of insulting people. He had a rare kind of lung cancer that had NOTHING to do with smoke of any kind.
You have no idea what you talking about do you. If you would have read the analysis of the Press Conference I posted. You would see that I am against the Press Conference and I don't believe Andy Kaufman was involved in any way. I only posted it so people could get the facts and decide for them selves what to believe.
It's the original Dr. Nick Riviera from The Simpsons, Dr. Vinnie Boombots! Who cares if it's not a laugh riot. It's just great to see these two brilliant comics working together. It's fun to watch once.
I love kaufman but this was atrocious if that's how you spell it. this is the only bad thing I've seen him do. and you can't say this is to make you go ooooooooohhhhhhh tits!!!
As long as you laugh, it´s funny. Its´s so silly when people talk about "the golden age"; everybody (correctly) respects Chaplin, but nobody laughs anymore anymore. Be honest, did you relly think that was a hilarious piece of comedy.....?
Yeah I never really laughed my ass off at the Vinnie Boombots bits. There's something about Kaufman though. Even when he's unfunny, whenever I see him, it's always made me happy.
look at the old marx bros. burns & allen, gleason, jack benny, spike jones, etc. now days the steve martin's, dangerfields, etc. are the last of the true creative talents..Like Rome, we are in a downward spiral in everything from academics to zoology -
comics today lack the "every man" quality. comics r no longer a person u can relate 2, they r only in comedy to use it as a step to something else. Todays comics do funny things. real comics like the ones mentioned do things funny. And Rodney LOVED comdey he did more for comedy by helping new acts, then comdy did for him. good ol Jacob Cohen, its funny most dont even know his real name, his stage name fits him so well. love this guy.
it's nothing like clifton.. the voice is different for a start and the character behaviour is no way near like cliftons. Maybe you were confused by a new york accent, but it's no where near clifton.
You are right, apart from his work on Taxi, which was pretty much scripted. But he did mess up things on that show, like when he tried to do a cameo as Tony Clifton.
yeah but that was never aired.. they had to get another guy in to play nick de palma. which i thought was kinda hilarious. tony clifton not good enough to play a low down card shark.. haha
While comedic genius's are still around, I would have to agree that the groundbreaking ones of the golden years are definitely in the past. We haven't seen another Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, Andy Kaufman, or Eddie Murphy. But we do have (ever so controversial) Dane Cook, Dave Chappelle, and the like.
R.I.P. Rodney and Andy!

Foreshadowing? I hate when people look into shit like this.

I meant that more as an odd coincidence, that's all. I hate when people's mad cow disease comes out on message boards.....

ya, i know, i was just saying that for me, he was in cheers (being the best show in t.v. history).
the 'next?' was for the next person to say, "you mean malcolm in the middle", or other such claims, i.e. george and leo.
no offense meant man, peaceanyway

It seems to me that Kaufman is playing his Tony Clifton character and not the doctor..

Maybe Kaufman respected Rodney to much to mess with the script?

Dane Cook is for kids, but Chappelle's pretty innovative. Chris Rock's got a lot of clout too.
Stewart and Colbert will be remembered fondly if the hype doesn't make them into the Bee Gees of the Millennium.

Please. That's an idiotic statement to make. Comedic genius will always exist. How fucking stupid can you be?

Comics of this greatness will never be seen again! Where are the comedic geniuses of today? Answer, they dont exist!
