yes i realize many of SRV's licks are version of albert king licks, bb king licks etc however Stevie took those licks into his soul, translated them and played them in a way that was unique

this guy has an immense amount of skill but needs to vary the licks he used

Anyone know what the technique at 3:17 is called ? or is it just some fast strumming? Because I'm pretty sure it's an SRV-style thing but can't find any info on it online. Do you just strum it or is there some sort of technique?

By the looks of it, i think it is just very fast strumming with extremely short breaks. strumming on different parts of the strings gives a slightly different sound.

It was just some fast strumming. However, he moved his picking hand down the neck and back up again to get a different tone (picking near the bridge gives a slightly brighter tone whereas picking near the neck creates a slightly bassier sound).
