For my opinion this movie is better than titanic. I bet if you watch this this will be one of the best movie you'll ever watch in your entire life. The story line is amazing. Unforgettable!
@kesha98654 dude, I agree he deserved the oscar for Schindler's liist but Geoffrey Rush deserved it this year. Even Billy bob thorton was great. No doubt Fiennes would have won had it been another year.
The English Patient is real masterpiece which deserved its Oscars. Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche showed brilliant acting. Other actors were great as well.
Touching, deep, emotional, truthful, beautiful, sad - it's all about this wonderful film

this has got to be one of th most ovrrated films of all time this film was so borin nd uninterestin nd fargo shouldve gotten th award for best picture instead of the english patient
I remember I saw this on TV many years ago. I was just a little girl, so I didn't really understand the movie, though my mother who I watched it with thought it was really good.
I never watched a movie but this story really make me curious and i would love to read a book or watch a movie. It reminds me a lot on the new bestseller "The Gargoyle" by Andrew Davidson
The book is brilliantly written. I don't understand people that don't like it. I'll take Ondaatje any day over Twilight or Harry Potter or whatever. :/
@ChocolateFrogPrince your a fucking great person man i love people like you who admire art work, why do people go watch twilight more, cause i dont get twilight"? english patient is a better love story man it dnt make no sense. this is one of my favs of all time, do u like brokeback mountain by the way? or cold mountian, gone with the wind maybe.
@malows1234 Kind of you to say. I'd go with the classics. Casablanca, An Affair to Remember, Roman Holiday. A Matter of Life and Death which is typically understated and one of my all time favourite movies. For light hearted fun An American in Paris which also boasts by far and away the morst sensual dance routine ever filmed, a duet between Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron that is sheer passion and sheer class. Pal Joey with Frank Sinatra and Kim Novak, and Bell Book and Candle also with Kim Novak.
@ChocolateFrogPrince More recently The Notebook and for sheer unconventionality a tiny Irish movie called Happy Ever Afters. I like several overlooked films like What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams, and don't forget the darker films like The Hustler with Paul Newman either.
For me most mainstream Hollywood movies flatter to deceive in terms of quality. They are mostly big on gloss but low on script quality and have little emotional engagement.
@ChocolateFrogPrince This is something that has come about ever since the moneymen took over and everyone in Hollywood forgot how to write a decent script. Go classic and go indie for depth and complexity, and keep the mainstream for popcorn nights with mates and mindless fun with kids.
@ChocolateFrogPrince OF man roman holiday is so fucking underrated and an affair to remember has a very effective albiet underrated performance from cary grant. An american in paris, i agree does take its subject matter much more lightly, but ya i remember that routine. Cassablanca...... well everyone in teh world has seen cassablance right?... and ya i actually prefer cassablanca to gone with the wind. but sometimes i feel golden age movies were a little too optemistic of the world. its ok.
@coffeeislove12345 Twilight and Harry Potter are leagues apart in terms of quality, though both boast storylines that attract massive attention. Personally though, I found The English Patient to be overwritten, trying to hard to be poetic to the point that it was barely readable.
@cho474chang you know, coming from someone who never liked either twilight or HP, after giving it some thought i'm surprised to find myself thinking that twilight is actually better quality than HP. I mean twilight is only bad because of the awful books, the direction of Catherine Hardwicke was fine, the acting was bogstandared, it had some impressive landscapes. while HP is crap because the films just aren't made very well. at 1st glance i'd say HP is better but thinking about it, twilight is.
i have to read this book for english. and let me tell you it is so boring and half the time i have no idea what is going on. i hope the nmovie is better. cause im going to just watch that and read spark notes
I read the book too, it doesn't focus on their relationship as much as the movie does. Acutally, the movie is mostly a love story, whereas the book is more of a history and actions of Almasy.
The song you want is part of the soundtrack of a Norwegian film: "The Telegraphist" (Telegrafisten). The OST is by Randall Meyers and the song is "Love Theme - Rolandsen and Elisa".
So are you a mystic as well? Can you see beyond the veil of humanity and FEEL the oneness of ALL. Can you FEEL a bird land at a distance as though it were you? Can you FEEL the art, the essence in every fleeting moment and watch that moment expand until it becomes more substantial?
How terrible to lose a man like this who was able to see into the slowness of a moment and find all of the treasure revealed to those with more evolved consciousness. A man who could take in all of the layers before him and refine it further as his act of creation.
I really really love this film...

I've just found out that the music for the trailer was composed by Randell Meyer. The album is for another sound track for a film The Telegraphist.
It can be purchased through Solaris Records online.
You can buy the cd or download single tracks, the choice is yours.
Hope this is of some help.
Richi.

You may as well compare Nabakov to Cartland.
The masses like candyfloss and mistake it for quality. That's the modern world.
