  • The mad thing about this whole hotness, that all of all us so used to computers ,is that all the edits were done by sticking bits of casette tape together .Fucking awesome, and the track in between Buffalo Girls and Rockett is the might CD III's get Tough.I could do a track listing ,but iI can't be arsed and sure that you in the know, know.Peace

  • Newcleus jam on it is just insane!

  • 2:56 - very short sampled up-pitch vocal sound was from: Freeze: IOU

3:00 + - The background percussion is from Newcleus: Jam On It

4:09 + - Brief Boy George / Culture Club vocal sample

  • tune

  • So inspiring. Still.

  • I posted a video response. No disrespect intended but, inspired by your use of the labels from the songs in the mix, I had a go at using the videos (where available) to make a proper video. Enjoy. B-)

  • I also have doubt's about Malcolm McLaren's Buffalo Gals, I think it's Art Of Noise 'Beat Box' and World Famous Supreme Team Show 'Hobo Scratch' from a McLaren 12" release.

  • @mcp666 Yes, at 1:33 & "World Famous".

  • There is also Culture Club's 'Miss Me Blind' and a large chunk of Arthur Baker's 'Breakers Revenge' which came out the same year. The Latin Rascals worked heavily on Breakers Revenge with Arthur Baker and this (bootlegged in the UK as 'Tablet The Second' by the way) could have been an out-take that developed into something unreleased?

  • Anyone know what that Addams Family record is in this mix????

  • @shawn0612 -That is from Guru Beats II from the Who You Stealin' From 12". It was a production from Arthur Baker and John Robie (both of Planet Rock fame) back in '84. It is on the the Partytime label.

  • i remember hearing this on a pirate station , LWR i think it was, just outside london, had just installed a big bastard aerial outside my window to pick up this undiscovered gem that was illegal radio stations in the 80's, was reclining on my sofa when THIS CAME ON and literally threw me out of my seat!

i think i make electronic music because of this record

  • @lab51rat I also heard this on LWR around 1986, I believe it was played by Colin Favour who done an Electro show at the time. It wasn't any of the usual DJ's I tuned in to listen to like Barry B and Derek Boland. B-)

  • This cat got all the vinyl to all these classics! Shout out to the DJ. (pre-Serato)

  • Brazilians Dj at work

  • THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION ASKED BELOW:

IT IS: CDIII -GET TOUGH (PRELUDE RECORDS)

They also made a joint called "Success".

  • This is a compilation of Paco's supermixes (what used to come on every day at 4PM on 92.3 FM NYC) What you are hearing is The Latin Rascals and The Kid from Brazil's mixes spliced together for this Big Apple Mix.

  • THE LATIN RASCALS

    (TONY MORAN AND ALBERT CABRERA)

    SER AND DUFF

    (ALBERT CABRERA a.k.a. SER)

    (TONY MORAN a.k.a. PETER DUFF)

  • hi Discopatrick and all the other viewers,

    FROM WHAT SONG IS THE FUNKY E-BASS SEQUENCE at 1.51, 1.55, 2.00, 2.04 and 2.09 ??????

I´ve been searching since 2 months for the

name of the track in the internet, at my records and asked my friends - no match.

Even on Discopatricks webside with the tracklist this one is missing (Beatbox ,..., Herbie Hancock).

Discopatrick, has anyone mailed you the name of the track and meanwhile you know the record ?

    PLEASE, release me !!

  • Dude let me put you out of your misery...the song is " get tough" by CD III

Sound like the latin rascals only spliced in a few seconds of the instrumental

  • first40, you made me happy !!!!

I have this track on a tape somewhere, loved it when i was 15 yrs. old and never heard it again since almost 25 yrs..

The video is on youtube and the record is still available.

    I´m lucky !!

    Tausend Dank !!!

  • I want the mp3 of this

  • That is The Latin Rascals. I keep reading things about other people taking credit for the mixes. Animal was in no size, shape or form able to create anything nearly complex as this.

    Actually nobody was.

  • I heared from someone who knows Albert, that he had seen the original mastertape of this one (Albert owns it, with the stickers still visible !).

I also heared the story that people who worked at the radio station copied the mixes on 1/4" tape and if the quality was high enough they provided them to the guys who presses bootlegs.

  • The second story is: Albert Cabrera and Tony Moran (The Latin Rascals) made a lot of mixes for the radio shows which were originally aired by WKTU in New York.

Somebody recorded it professionally and made a bootleg of it.

If you listen to the style of the mixes which are from Tony and Albert back then it will clearly state them as the creators of it.

It has all their trademarks in it.

  • They were the only ones doing edits by formula at the time. What I mean was 1/4" tape moving at 15 I.P.S. would give you 900 inches of tape per minute. Now divide that by the B.P.M.'s of a track...lets say 120 B.P.M. Each beat is going to be 7.5 inches long. That is where the rapid fire edits come from. Nobody but The Latin Rascals was doing it. Chep Nunez (R.I.P) and Charlie Dee almost got it right but it was Omar Santana & Carlos Berrios who carried the torch

  • I can't find anything, anywhere by Jose "The Animal" Diaz anybody know what happened to him.

all of Google only has one mention of him on a disco record blog.

  • A lot of bootlegs medleys were copied from tapes recorded from radio shows or from acetates. So the names on a medley are mostley never from the real creator of the mix. There are two stories about the creators of the Big Apple 1.The first story is about DJ Mikey D'Merola (the creator of the Bits and Pieces 1 and 2). In a interview he mentioned that he made an acetate of his mix for use during his DJ gigs.

Than he told that someone pirated a copy and released it without giving Mikey any credit

  • Does anybody has OUCH and OUCH 2. Nowbody knows for sure who did the big apple production 1, diffrent people are getting the credit. This mix is a mistery.

  • The latin Rascals were Tony Moran and Albert Cabrera

  • This is the work of THE LATIN RASCALS, although i can see how some may think its Double Dee and Steinski. The latin rascals were HUGE in NYC from 1984 thru 1988.

  • The mix itself is incredible but the video production of posting all the album covers photos used for this mix is outstanding... Great job...

  • wow this was a great mix..

  • OK WHERE'S VOLUME 3? & THE REST? LOL -_-

  • Tell me about. I wish they made a hundred of these mixes.

  • quality medley mixers like these guys are magical hard to come by most just dj's blend one to another nothing special boaring

  • If your a fan of the Big Apple mixes, Look up Double Dee & Steinski. These guys ruled the airway of New York in the 80's...

  • cool thx alot TOM, In nor cali Camron Paul mixx-it records was our top guy that ruled the airways of San Francisco bay area back in the good ol 80's... -_-

  • No problem at all. The 80's was a great era for music, especially Hip Hop. Sure miss those good old days...

  • yelp 80's were a musical utopia I'd go back to the best decade ever in a heart beat especially early 80's nyc the birth place of hip hop

  • man... i love how you took the time to reveal the 12" covers to most of the songs sampled here.

    Nice job.

I own this 12" too and never get tired.

I think i have about 5 Big Apple Prod mega mixes in total.

  • Thankyou Discopatricknl I have this on tape somewhere. My mate got this record from i think Reckless records in soho. That was back in 1986.

  • lol he mixed my dad's record in dat mixx. Good Looks, mon.
