  • He knows his stuff, living life his way!

  • Isnt that reporter a little young to be interviewing adults like this?

  • Great interview i enjoy watching my fellow archer's shoot traditionalbow bow's but i'm a die hard compoundbow shooter.

  • Mr. LaClair, you, your archery, your poetry, your harley ! are inspirations to all of us moving into those "senior" years.

  • Great video.

  • what?

  • Do all bears have names???

  • Im an English archer, within technicality im a Yeoman, i shot a 115lb English war bow, ash arrows are best for that poundage of bow and its beautiful to shot and the power is immense, and im only 18

  • Great video, great Archer and Artist, congratulations from an Italian comrade.

  • epic beard archer

  • I like this video. Greets from Serbia.

  • Lol at: 2:42 she makes the suggestion that a compound bow is easier :P lol screw compound bows, i love the moment where he says that he never used a compound bow and than says he has been an archer whole his live ^^ true archers don't use compound crap indeed. Though I would love to see more English Longbows in his shop, not that flatbows aren't nice but I prefer ELBWS :)

  • @vinsk8er4life There are several aspects to the ELB. About 90% is the longbow part, and the last 10% is the made of yew part. If you take the yew out of the equasion (and for all I know if you leave it in), Ron has lots of ELB type bows, he has a large collection of Hill bows of various type. The Shrew he sells is a very short bow that many hunters like, as many hunters think a short bow is essential, but if you follow that logic you end up at a bow of 28 inches as with some compounds.

  • I am really quessing wether he shoots american style longbows or traditional longbows :)

  • hi what kind of bow is that the tiller looks very strange,

  • Is there anywhere a person could get a scripted copy of that poem. It truly touches me, my father is in a nursing home now and he loved bow hunting with his re-curve and he also loves poetry. I would dearly love to have a copy of that poem so I could read it to him as a special treat. ( for he is going blind and can no longer read himself )

  • I wanna grow old like that :(

  • I wish i could be like that when im his age

  • @rozuell

    You probably will...

    Dementia is on the increase.

  • Great video! I love everything about archery, the tradition, the skill, the whole nine. I myself am very new to it, my father and grandfather were both archers and unfortunately they both passed away before sharing it with me. I have a few questions I would like to ask.I am right handed, left eye dominant. I'm looking for a re-curve bow, should I choose left or right handed bow?I'm 5'11" weigh 212, What would be a good draw length and weight for me. I want to eventually end up hunting big game

  • What a great guy. Seems like a genuinely sweet man.

His poem was incredible as well, he should publish.

  • I really like them! :D

  • what a nice man

  • Whats sad is that all the compound guys think Ted Nugent is some kind of ultimate God like Bowhunter. And while i have nothing against Ted Nugent, he is not in the same league as the Fred Bears, Ron LaClairs,Byron Furgesons,Dan Fitzgeralds, and many others. The reason i became bored with Compounds is the mentality that seems to dominate that end of the sport.. The belief that your equipment is more important to success then the skill you posses and the pathological obsession with speed..

  • I'd say Ted is in the same league as Dan Fitzgerald. LOL I can't think of two more alike based on their videos and writings.

  • What bow would a person recommend for a slight female?

  • How slight are we talking about?

  • it really depends on your strength. I would suggest a 35lb draw, but i know even teenage girls who draw 50lb bows because theyve practiced with increasing weights enough

  • @archerypea

    Thanks. :)

  • 50 pound draw? that would go straight through a deer

  • easy it could kill a deer

  • do u think that 50 pound draw weight bow can kill a deer?

  • very easily in fact. People underestimate traditional equipment and the effectiveness of a sharp broad head. A thirty pound draw is to light to hunt in many states but can be used

  • we get 150 lbs plus here in England

  • That's because the English longbow is remarkably inefficient compared to a reflex-deflex or modern recurve.

  • @JamesTCA

165 cm, approximately 8.2 stone and can benchpress around 60 pounds if that helps, lol.

  • where did you get that piece of bull from they are about just the same in accuracy as recurves some where used by assasins and militia and we conqured many opposing armys because of our highly trained bowmen

  • Actually James is right. Though the English longbow or warbow was a weapon that helped win supremacy for the English over many opposing army.. most famously the French in The battles of Crecy and Agincourt..still modern designs such as the American longbow and recurve bows are more efficient.. but eventually the English War bow did take on recurve tips after the crusades.

  • You could kill any game in the lower 48 with no problem.

  • get a turky box tip and you would murder a dear at 50

  • that's great.

  • awesome guy

  • his wife have a 30 pound bow and he got a 63 pound bow

  • does anybody know what wheight does he shoot? and for hunting?

  • He is an amazing shot with his bow though.

  • Is that 'world longbow' champion the same way the Americans have 'world series' baseball ie USA and Japan?

  • I like this vídeo. It make me up ! When I stay in USA I will look for La Clair Store!

  • The more I learn about this man, the more respect I have for him. He embodies the exact way that I would love to live.

  • 72! Shit! That guy looks like he is solid Muscle!!

  • he is the man ! my idol ! i like arrows and harleys and frank and simple men !

  • super video

wath is the best wood for arrows? birch?

  • cedar is best for arrows

  • thanks

  • why do usa people call flat bows longbow ?

not wonting to up set any 1 just intersted as i use a long bow there 6 feet and not recoverd thanks

  • I was wondering this also :) lol

I guess that it's because the American Longbow is the traditional longbow in the US, just the as the English longbow is the same for people here in the UK, it depends on where you're from I guess :)

To me, a Longbow will always be the English Longbow and the American counterpart will always be a flatbow :)

Traditional Archery is the best form of archery around, because it is indeed the most challenging and enjoyable :)

  • There's a bit of confusion of it in the US, but generally a long bow is a bow with strait limbs, with some sort of laminate. We refer to English longbows as just that, and a longbow style bow that's just one solid piece of wood is usually referred to as a self bow or flat bow.

  • how old is he

  • He is 72
