  • Fred Johanson is amazing as Pilate.

  • @Mickyeahh I guess that's because he remembers his dream and is scared.

  • Why M. Bison play Pilate? O_O

  • @wedowilson lol that's what I always thought

  • This is just in my opinion but I feel like this guy isn't taking his role seriously enough. His singing's pretty good but he makes his angry tones so over the top it's hard to take him seriously. There's to much in his voice and not enough emotion in his face

  • @Salieri1760 I beg to differ! He puts on a strong front, but look at 1:40 - 1:44. His face conveys a subtle startled expression as he looks around at the ravenous mob. He knows the reputation Herod has (Which is why Mary screams). The way he glances around at the crowd really gets me.

  • whaT do you mean by thaT? T-UH, T-UH, T-UH

  • is it just me or is this Mr. Slave in real life? :D

  • i can feel him spitting all over jesus' face through my screen

  • Whats with the SS officer here, and whats with his facial expressions?

Man, while its made small changes I like this movie is quite a bummer.

  • okey you guys who think this man dosnt sing good, listen to the video when he sings music of the night. AMAZING. i promise

  • I enjoy this version of JCS. However, one thing that is distracting is that it often seems like we're in a gay leather bar. For example, this Pilate looks like he's dressed to play the role of dominator in an S & M scene. Very disconcerting! :-)

  • Holy nosed Voldemort, Batman 0:20

  • damn he's scary...

  • Nothing compares to the original Broadway cast, nothing

  • He is so badass...

  • looks like bison

  • This person needs voice lessons

  • Press 7...

    Make your own beat!

  • God my balls... I just feel them shrunken by the end of the song. This Pilate is badass!

  • 0:51

My teacher has said this to me many times.

  • @UntitledHome In that uniform?

  • @UntitledHome lol

  • @angrusa Fred Johanson is by far the best pilate out there

  • Press 5 to hear the best part of the song.

  • Mr. Bison!

  • I love his expression at the end. Indicates that everything before that was just grandstanding, looking like the big tough general for the sake of the crowd. It puts his overly hammer performance into perspective.

  • Да это лучший Пилат из всех,а Пилат 1973 года-как педик,и вообще ИХС 2000 гораздо лучше .

  • lol i still think the old one is better. Jesus is over acting infact everyone is overacting.

  • The first sound that comes out of his mouth can't be human.

  • Ham it up!

  • Loved the original Pilate too much to take this seriously

  • PILATES is "hysterical"

    THE ORIGINAL WAS WORSE

  • I loooove the 2000 version the best !

  • lol let's make fun of juice

  • ... Is this a comedy? Seriously?

  • OMG its M. Bison !!!!

  • @Svennizx That's exactly what I thought when I saw him!

  • Thaaat

    IS NOT!!!

    An aaaaansweeeraayouuuu

    lfmao

  • Love this one, but prefer this number slightly (more realistic) in the other. <3

  • I can't take Pilate seriously here. His voice is one of the better ones in this version, but he clearly attended the Captain Kirk school of acting. I keep waiting for him to shout: "KHAAAN!"

  • At the end of this scene, can you imagine how much spit Glenn must have had to wipe off his face? this Pilate wins forever.

  • what's Voldemort doing here?

  • Pilate like that SS officer.... :)

  • Jesus concentrates not to laugh..and he knows that the best way to do it is by NOT LOOKING AT PILATE!!!! ( 0:52 - 1:09 )

  • this pilate owns the old one so hard.

  • Comment removed

  • this pilate reminds me of oogey boogey! O_o

  • this pilate is much better than the 70's one.

he sounds, and looks scarier. the other one had a weak voice and this one has such an amazing tone to his

  • Nazi!!!

  • @GeddyLee91 gahaha good 1 :)

  • As much as I like the original version I must say that THIS version of Pilate takes the part to whole new level. Quite brilliant. What an excellent portrayal of naked power and authority.

  • 1970: Jesus is hot, Pilate is not!

2000: Pilate is hot, Jesus is not!

  • @The8Animals8 I disagree. Both Pilates were hot. The 1973 Jesus was aesthetically pleasing.

  • I hate to be mean, but while the original Jesus looked like Jesus and was attractive...this one seem to have gotten some Tommy Wiseau D.N.A in him. Eesh

  • god damn this sucks compared to the 70s version >.<

  • For you, the day Bison crucified your Jesus was the most important day of your life,

    For him, it was Friday.

  • Pilate (Fred Johanson) is from Sweden. Woho! :D

  • Very comical, this Pilate....but great opera-ish voice!

  • His voice is fenomenal.

  • what an inszenation! a blue-eyed helden-bariton for pilate? in a mix of roman and ss-uniform? fark I love him!

  • Why is he so angry? What a "case"!!!!

  • What's with the swiss army blade?

  • @mattus7 The swiss army blade is the symbol for the REALLY USEFUL GROUP. (:

  • Man, when was M. Bison in the bible?

  • @ExplodingBacon

Early versions of Luke mention Bison, but it was cut out around V century.

  • pilate is too goofy

  • Youuuuuuuuuu're DEEEEEEP (Spitting) XD that face makes me laugh all time XD

  • Upon reading some of the comments here I disagree, Pilate isn't blatantly evil in this adaption. To me I saw without a doubt the conflicting emotions he shared throughout the musical. In Pilate's Dream you saw him as a man, someone alone in his quarters being troubled by a dream. Then you see him here in his uniform- a man of the state. He can't be that sympathetic; its his job. Then you see his emotion unveiling more at Jesus' trial, he tries to save him but cant. Favorite. Movie. Ever.

  • I love Pilate's costume. He's pretty cool looking even though he's supposed to be evil . But he's performance in this is awesome.

  • great performance.!!!

  • Yeah, I'd be pretty scared too if I was standing trial in front of P. Bison.

  • is that M. Bison???????

  • holy geez they gave Jesus to M.Bisson! :O

  • Oh my God. I'm melting with his voice.

  • The 1973 Pilate is a pussy compared to this Nazi general...

  • @Komnenit Well, it's really not fair to compare them in that way- Dennen's Pilate was a man way out of his depth and clearly frightened about the situation growing out his hands, and attempts to hide it by cruelly mocking Jesus to the bitter end, which of course falls apart as we see by the ends of his songs.

I prefer the '73 version myself, mainly because the acting is far subtler and Dennen shows a greater range and depth in the character.

  • @VRNProductions Well , Pilate was a former Roman general .

  • @Komnenit -- I fully agree ... this swede doesnt play Pilate, he IS the dictator.

  • @Komnenit the 1973 isn't even a pussy compared to this Nazi General!

  • 0:04 The first time I heard that it scared the hell out of me! I couldn't believe where that sound was coming from. He brings every line in this song with such conviction. Fred Johanson is truly a wonderful actor/singer.

  • YOURE IN BIG TROUBLE FRIEND!!!!

    *peed my pants*

  • @NJYankee920 nope. get over it friend, cuz this is one of the most popular broadways ever, and it aint goin anywhere.

  • he is from sweden :)

  • ive handshaked with him ^^ it was really awesome :)

  • Okey, so I watched this movie.I have to admit, if there was no 70 make of this movie, I would like this more. There are good parts... but then there are bad barts, that can be so compared to the earlier make. It seemed to have gone in to a different direction in the character of Pilatus and Judas. In the old one you could feel compassion, and actually understand why they did what they did. In this one, they are the same old "EVIL!" with a capital E. So nothing different, nothing THAT interesting

  • @narmolania Um , watch it again . Judas was no different from his portrayal in the `70s Film except for his actor , race , costume and the way he conveyed his feelings . He was still a conflicted , misguided , well-intentioned social activist , pacifist and proud Jew who admired Jesus but was disgusted by the militant attitude of the other apostles which he feared would incite Roman wrath against The Jews .And , 2000 Pilate has more human scenes just as 1973 Pilate has cruel scenes .

  • Mr Bison! LOL

  • 'You got a 1:07 in me...' XD

  • Look at his face at 0:55 when he said "what do you mean by THAT?

  • Look, it's Voldemort.

  • Dude, stop screaming.

  • The 2000 version was great for execution, agreeing with Webber himself that it's fateful to the modernization the actual Broadway version does. However, I think the major flaw with it IMO is the botched characterization - Judas is not sympathetic as he should be, Pilate is tyrant as opposed to understanding and fearful of Jesus, Jesus is too sexualized (and almost arrogant) than He should be.

Not denying the performance isn't great but doesn't sit too well with me as opposed to the 70s movie.

  • He looks plastic.. In a really weird way :P

  • LOL...awesome

  • strong acting. look at his face when he screams "that is NOT an answer", he looks like a mosnter!

  • thats not an aaaaaAAAAAAAnSWEEER!!!

  • Horrible....Original pilate so much better he was smooth and sarcastic..this one screams like hes constipated or somthing...lol.

  • @mientjeo4 a nice change. romans symbolized force and the conquerors. in the original, pilate was not that

  • Dude this guy is wayyyy better than the 1973 version. 1973 guy sounded like he was pretty much whispering. This guy is terrifying. 1973 is pwned.

  • Barry Dennen >>>> this guy

  • I don't know if I like this interpretation of Pilate, but damit. I believe in every word he say, what an actor! I laugh at every word and eye expression because it so good..! :) 1:03 to 1:09...

  • I used to have this version then i leant it to someone and never saw it again....now I just have the older one, but I perfer this version

  • Fred is magnific in this musical, great voice!

  • I wonder if Pilate really was that hot.........

  • @Fujika1719L ...O.O me too... probably not tho

  • pilatos es Ricardo Fort. He is not the scarish good actor. He is a clown

  • pilatos es Ricardo Fort

  • his consanants are overdone. other than that, i cant think of anything i dont like about it

  • fred johansons voice is pretty annoying but he is a pretty scary authority figure. the pilot in the 73 movie was way too weak. overcompensation for that maybe?

  • Change Pilate's clothes to red and he is M. Bison from Street fighter.

  • At .10 sec you see Jesus trying to be brave

  • To silly and crappy to be any Pilate.

  • Go on Fred pronounce the hell out of those T's man! LOOL

  • He looks like Jafar from Disney's 'Aladdin'. Seriously!

  • Fred is amazing. I am not able to say whether he sings better or acts better.

  • The Romans really remind me of the Nazis ^^

  • he looks so nazy . uniform and everything..

  • @elenafuckingalva it is nanzi and yeah He is protrayed as a gestapo

  • he really pronounces the 't' xD

  • pilate reminds me of m. biason :p

  • They turn every single happy song in this movie, in to this scary moment.. It's genius!

  • I believe Jesus was scared at first. But I believe he thought of us and was strengthend..............and remember God sent an angel to give him strength. He wanted to die for us. I'm really sad that people think he died out of obligation instead of love.

  • its funny when the jews took over this movie they make muslims look evil

  • He really reminds me of Bowser more than anything else

  • Best scene in the movie. Pilate is freakin amazing! The rest of the movie kinda sucks

  • This scene terrifies me.

Actually this movie in general does...as does the old one xD

  • omg! this pilate just freaks me out!

  • The 1973 version is about a million times better than this.

  • one of the guards from 'alladin' much...

  • Pilate sounds like a voice from a disney musical. haha

  • this guy reminds me of rammstein...

  • Bison sings very well XD

  • what version is this? is it a movie or a theatre show??

  • @jorgebol18 it's from the movie released in 2000 :)

  • @jorgebol18

its a movie that's based a theatre show by Andrew Lloyd Webber

  • wow.... this Pilate is all authority!!!!!

  • Someone Christ, King of the Juuuuuice!

  • @UntitledHome When god gives you lemons, you FIND A NEW GOD!! lol

  • @UntitledHome Power-Thirst Godberry - King of the JUICE!

  • Oh no Jesus watch out! Its M. Bison!

  • no no,no....this sux...the original blows this away....

  • More like a Pink Floyd concert!

  • @muscman133

Yes, it sounds more like a version of The Trial. : )

  • Sorry, this Pilate is so stilted, pathetic, affected, unnatural. He really plays over. Just my opinion.

  • Isn't Johanson a little over the top at some parts?

  • all his looks when he yells at Jesus hahahha

  • i want their metal abs and coats.. :D

  • This is one of the few scenes that I feel is done better here than in the original

  • Johanson was definitely the best part of this movie.

  • I absolutely love this version of Pilate and Christ. The original productions (Broadway and film), had Pilate as a weakling. But now, Pilate displays the true strength of the great Roman Empire!

Besides, Fred Johanson's facial expressions are priceless, especially when he goes: "That IS NOT an answer...."

  • I agree, he could definately play the devil in some movie lol. He's the only character in this one that i wouldn't change with the 70's version. He has a really good voice :]

  • Damn I want Pilate's coat it's so cool.

  • Somehow I want him to play the Devil or something!! I mean... look at him! the voice, the looks! And the intimidating charisma... He would be a decent devil, satan or demon... whatever! I love it!

  • I think Pilate as a Nazi is all wrong.

  • This Pilate really doesn't work for me.

And um... are the Romans facists? Hmmm... not pursuaded by that example of artistic license...

    Any thoughts??

  • Is Pilate suppose to be a Nazi?

  • 00:45-00:47. Jesus's eyes are cool and funny. it kinda goes to the music

  • Interesting fascist portrayal of the Romans...I think maybe this would be better on stage, Pilate seems to be overacting a bit.

  • @icestarphantom Just watch the original. Its better in any way.

  • @magicdutchmen i like both equally

  • @icestarphantom i was thinking the same thing

  • it is a very bad pilate... where is pilate there? there is a storng, provocant man who likes to punish jesus... that's quite not pontius pilate...

  • Haven't seen this in so long...

  • pilate's a good singer

  • love the song, nice M.Bison costume Pilate

  • @Whatsmahpasswurd Haha so I'm not the only one thinking he looks very similar.

  • Oh my gosh - hottest pilate ever

  • 1:04. Rofl, DEEEP. i like the neck movement
