The new Star Trek movie was affected by the society it was in, much like the society of 1966 affected the old Trek. I can't say I like modern society, and its effects on Trek are atrocious. Don't blame the director. You'll have to fix society before you can fix Trek. (sadly)
I never got into star Trek, but a lot of my family is and they were totally divided about the new movie. 1/2 loved it 1/2 were livid. I think if it wasn't a star trek movie, it wold get a little more love.
Super 8 was good though. It was it' own movie but at the same time a love letter to movies like the goonies and close encounters. reminded me of the stock pile of Movies I watched over and over again when I was sick w/ pneumonia for a month.
@TheMrKettleman It isn't that there's a problem with the movie. It's a problem with Hollywood. Because of JJ Abrams and his movie, we'll never have another Star Trek series again. Star Trek is profitable, but not -as- profitable as JJ Trek.
@AgentStark427 I want to tell you that you saying that makes me want to barf, but I won't. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And if that opinions includes saying that Kirk-lite is better then the real thing, well who am I to say anything against that?
JJ-Trek isn't really Trek, but JJ's failed attempt to re-make "Star Wars." It sucks, moving on!

@heymrk JJ made his interpretation to fit the bill for today's society. And to be honest I like his version of Kirk. Its a lot better than shatner.

That doesn't mean I have a distaste for JJTrek. There are things that I wish never happened. Like Spock's character disaster.
