  • This must have confused audiences in the 60's. "WTF just happened? Who the hell is that guy??'

  • That's actually pretty cool. Simple but effective. I like it. Was he in the TARDIS when it happened though? Cause it's a bit weird to hear it in the background.

Come to think of it, Nine and Ten both regenerated inside the TARDIS, and so did the Master at the end of Season 3. Is this some kind of tradition?

  • @SsnakeBite Yeah he was in the TARDIS at the time, most of this episode is missing except for this bit but I seem to recall the TARDIS flying itself while he was unconcious. It's not really a tradition, at least three Doctors have regenerated outside of the TARDIS, but because Doctor Who is so big now that bloggers show up at filming locations and post pictures online, filming in the closed and freely available standing set of the TARDIS just makes it easier.

  • WAIT A SECOND, WHERE DID THIS FOOTAGE COME FROM!?!?!?

The 1st doctor's regeneration took place in episode 4 of the serial "The Tenth Planet" which is one of currently 108 MISSING episodes of Doctor Who

  • @frankydman In some cases, certain footage from missing episodes exists in one form or another - either they reused a bit of the footage for another episode (thus creating another copy) or someone at home filmed it off their television or whatever. Fans collect this footage and attempt to "reconstruct" lost episodes.

  • @frankydman the regeneration part isn't missing because i have this doctor who story on vhs as it isn't on dvd but most of it is there except for episode 4 but the regeneration is still on there unless mine is special because it came in a limited edition tin ?

  • @CLASSICDOCTORWHOBOY

"The Tenth Planet" is a four part serial

Part 4 is the only part missing, and it is the most sought after of the missing episodes

  • ? did he change or not

  • I think Doctor Who is the only show where replacing the main actor has worked

  • ha...after nearly 50 years..the only thing that hasnt changed in doctor who is the sound of the tardis

  • im glad david tennant got a big dramatic exit even though the 1st doctor is the real doctor, david tennant was one of the best ones!!!

  • A bit less dramatic than the 10ths.

  • im thinking, when the first regeneration ever happened, everyone was all, oh my god, he changed, wow!!! but now were are almost 50 years into doctor who, we are like, the doctor changes again, whoop de doo(being sarcastic)

  • back then they must have been thinking "woah! that was amazing!!!!!" Right now we're all like "meh..."

  • and so the most cantankerous doctor becomes one of the warmest. go figure.

  • People must have wondered what the hell was going on when this came onscreen....

  • @biggamandingo you're rubbish

  • @bentsimon some idiots just don't understand the meaning of old progammes! You wouldn't find any effects in the present in the 60's or 70's!
