  • The song was first performed by Billy Merson, who you can see singing it on YouTube. Jolson plagiarised the song, and Merson took him to court, losing the case on a technicality, which ruined him financially. It appears that Jolson made a rgular habit of this kind of behaviour.

  • Wow! We used to sing this in the sixties in the pub where my mam played the piano and my cousin swore his 'revenge on Alfonso Spigoni' Great Fun! Well done for keeping the song alive! And not letting it die tiddly eye tye tye tye tye! Ole!
