I was very young when this came on...for some reason I don't think it drew a large audience but i thought it was really cool. It was a dark show and a lot of characters that seemed to be from the underworld. You even got the feeling sometimes that the Cat was a semi-good guy.
Boy I forgot how good looking and smooth moving that Robert Loggia was back in the day. I been in love with him since he was "Elfago Baca." He sure grew old in a nice way! Hubba, Hubba! LOL!
This show broke with the rules. I read the characters who were the villains were so grotesque that the executives of the network were so afraid of the show effect. The show appealed with the younger audiences. I think that the show was copied by the hollywood industry of the 80's which really was so tasteless with many bad actors.
An entire season's worth may still be available at the Times Square comic shop I saw it. They're bootlegged copies like the clip is and a bit pricey, $20 per 4-episode DVD. But yeah, somebody should finally put out a decent legitimate set at an affordable price.
It is on fair DVD...about twenty five bucks for the whole season. On the web. Dig.
How about this firast episode of the only season...all this great music. THen after the titles....it's time to hit the club for a Brazilian jazz tune...more music...
I read that this show is preserved only on 16mm film. The show was never syndicated and the theme song is very rare as it was never made into a record. It ran for one season only, 26 episodes. I saw a long interview with Mr. Loggia and he talked at length about Elfego Baca but did not mention this show.
Very cool. Yeah Lalo was Bruce's favorite composer..Mission Impossible to Enter The Dragon... used music in his workouts... training the rhythm to break the rhythm..Looks like the "ETD" screenwriter also got some ideas from this program... I loved this program....
It's by the same composer, Lalo Schifrin, who also did the original Mission: Impossible, which debuted in the same year as T.H.E. Cat, along with Mannix, Bullitt and the Dirty Harry films. You can actually hear bits of each here.
This is one of the coolest action shows of the sixties. It was ahead of its time. It's a pitty a film version was not done with Mr. Loggia as T.H.E. CAT. I really apreciate your posting it. Thanks.
Yes! I've seen this episode at least twice. I think this was the very first episode. The last time I saw this was back in 1971 when it ran in syndication, here in New York City. A collector recently offerred me the entire series. Please show more T.H.E. Cat scenes.

I remember buying the comic book which I wish I still had. I got a hair-cut so I could look more like T.H.E. Cat.

You can get the whole show for twenty five bucks or so. I love the cops' voice. ARmstrong. Forget his first name. What a voice.

@mrc302, they should do a C.D. of the music too.

Loggia had the coolest moves. When he stops and looks up at 1:04 he's like a modern dancer!

I remember watching this on TV. Excellent show. Lalo S. also composed for Enter the Dragon. Yes Hollywood this has got to go on the big screen.

Is it my imagination or does that background music sound a little bit like "enter the dragon"?

It was the early sixties..so much about the 1960's was worth loving but, this show was always such a special treat to see!
I have rewritten the musical/title theme because I could not find it in any store, even the sheet music!
I hope I can make a new movie of this series BEFORE Tom Cruise gets his hands on it!
(Do you think Tom ever visits YouTube?) :-)

One of three episodes contained in the U.S. Libray of Congress. Title is "To Kill A Priest." Where in the world did you get this? It's great!
