You can't expect to leave the town in the hands of the same 50-, 60-, and 70-year old decision-makers and for things to get better. Again - insanity. It takes new blood, new ideas, people that actually want to see the town get better, to get in there and have a voice, have a say in where the money gets spent, be tapped into the pulse of the community, understand what the youth are craving and toss them a bone, and who knows, maybe some of the good ones will stay past 16, 17, or 18. Just sayin'.
Albert Einstein is famously attributed as defining insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results". I acknowledge that much of the time, I'm bored living in Bridgewater. At 27, my options are somewhat limited. I don't go to the bars every weekend because bar crowds are bored drunken idiots. But rather than just up and leave, I would much rather stay, get involved, and try to y'know, make things better. That's how improvement happens, if you really want it.
Bridgewater is not a town for young people - it's boring as hell. There's no getting around it. And it's not as if people don't know it. People are intentionally ignorant of it, and yes, that's wrong. More should be done to keep the youth in small Maritime communities, and to keep them out of drugs and alcohol, and gang activities. It's undeniable that it exists. Yet not enough youth are willing to stick around long enough to enact any CHANGE, they just want to leave at the first opportunity.
Speaking as someone who has lived in Bridgewater for over twenty years off-and-on, who left and did the school thing in the big city, then left the province entirely to do more, I come back to my hometown and see it for what it is - another town in a long line of towns just trying to make it in a world that passed it by in the 90's.
I think most everyone of a certain generation (let's say from the 60's onward) who grew up in a small town that didn't really cater to them, holds some sort of animosity towards the place they grew up. Many who grew up and "couldn't wait to get out", who felt that they were "too good for their hometown", should try to be a little less self-righteous.
Welcome to 21st-Century Capitalism, enjoy your stay. There's corruption all over the place, it sure as hell isn't just Bridgewater. Halifax is corrupt as shit, for example.
Bridgewater suffers from the same identity crisis as virtually every Maritime community. It markets itself as a retirement community, but ponders why it can't keep youth (and why the ones who remain are so disenfranchised). Yet Bridgewater somehow manages to be one community to show economic and population growth.
I just got jumped by four guys on Saturday night. I do love this town, but there are some real pieces of shit living here. Cowards I mean. I wasn't running.
@TheBMSpro haha safe what the fuck are u talking about man i got jumped and they beat the shit out of me broke my anckel and ive goting threatend to be killed and have saw tons of crazy shit what fucking part do u live in
@911hockeyguy first of all im a girl haha, and i live in the part they are showing in the vid, and it's been very safe for what i've seen! but i have seen some wild crazy people here though!
Check out google street view of the town, nothing visually very dirty about this town?? Depends on your point of view i guess, but lots of worst places than this that's for sure.
I'd like to know why you would say it's corrupted! Do you really think the politicians are on the take?? Get real. Bridgewater has improved so much over the years and is a great place to live.
@lumberjacksryan Oh please. Who's gonna do it? You?? It's because of illiterate cunts like you (it's "course", "beaten" and "badly") that make this town such a shithole. And I ain't afraid to say that to your face too.
Try living in toronto ontario now thats a dirty city...I lived in digby ns back in 2000 and loved it. want to move back to ns thinking of moving to bridgewater
bridgeater is a great place sure lots of fights and shit but shut ur mouth if u dont live here fuck offf ud k shit if u got a prob come talk to me about it ya fuck
I have visited Bridgewater, if you think that this is a dirty old town, you have not travelled far. I would recommend a visit to Bridgewater and its surrounding communities to any tourist. Overall, I believe the south shore is the best tourist destination in the province, Bridgewater definitely included.
I'm from Bridgewater. I miss it sometimes but the description is right. My problem is that the town has problems and everyone just seems to turn a blind eye to them. There is nothing more horrifying than young people in Bridgewater as they all seem to come from broken homes and have nothing better to do than form "gangs", get in fights and loiter. Bridgewater is the ass end of Nova Scotia (bad enough) and the dark side of Eastern Canadian culture. Nice place to visit, horrible place to grow up.
Hah i disagree, Im from Bwater too and growing up there is the best thing you can do for yourself.... Because nothing will make you want to leave faster than growing up there.
this a good town. you dont like it then dont visit. couldnt hurt us any. and 'Scandal, Corruption and Back Door Politics'? shouldn't put stuff that you don't know. obviously if that was true we wouldnt have a nice town and places to live in it. bud your fucked up.
I lived in Bridgewater longer then I wanted and even moved back for a year during a break from university. Sure there's some things wrong with it but I wouldn't go to those extremes.
There is no 'gang'. There were like 8 kids from Parkview who beat up a guy outside KOD and that's basically it. All of them moved out west shortly after
@incognito84 probably wasn't really the "TOB", most of the original guys are long gone, now just random punks that think there hard, go around spray painting/ smashing stuff but not a real gang just restless kids
Hahaha, ohhhh.... good ol' B-Dub. I have nothing to say, but thanks for posting this vid.
