Read Michener's book 'Centennial', from which this mini-series was made years before the mini series. My favorite of Michener, and the mini-series is incredibly faithful to the original book. Sad that we've gone from great TV like this to reality TV and news pundits 24/7.
Fantastic mini series. I'm searching still for the soundtrack that's never been made. It's the music of the series that made the difference. I think it was John Addison who was the composer.
I'm almost 50 now. It makes me very nostalgic. I was still young then...
@gitspaul A CD of John Addison's music was released not too long ago and the theme from "Centennial" is on it as well as a Bridge Too Far. It was I believe by a fellow named Rumon Gamba (or something like that) and is quite good. It has both the music from the end titles and theme music. I agree--the music made the series even better.
Centennial was released on DVD over a year ago - I think it runs about $50. Not sure if it has been released in the UK on Region 2 though. I agree... by far the best mini series ever made. Of course I am kinda partial - I live in Colorado!
Hola soy Juan Manuel, no se si hablas español. sabes esta serie me gusta mucho tengo años q. no la vuelvo a ver como le puedo hacer para descargar todos los capitulos te lo agraceria mucho que me dijieras.
I am so jealous of you lot because I have never seen this series, but would love to. I don't remember it ever being shown in the UK, either that or I hibernated for a couple of months and missed it! Any chance of someone uploading it on here, please???
This is by far the most wonderful miniseries ever made....so beautiful.. including of course the voice over of the late David Jansen, from the hitseries, the fugitive.
I have the series on dvd, and it`s very wonderfull to see this series again, every year.
i fell in love withthis mini series the first time I saw it and it has remained my favorite of all times... wish they would make something else like this..
my dad recently bought a set of dvds on ebay new for 40$ he remembered it as a kid and wanted me to watch it it was absolutly amazing and has the greatest message
I have had an all regions dvd edition (copied straight from video) via ebay for a couple of years now. A bit soapy in parts but blows away most other tv series.
5 stars - i hope they release a dvd one day for the pal region. so we are not depending on stupid tv-stations that only broadcast crap like "gilmore girls" and "7th Heaven"-shit here in Austria.
The Centennial Series was based upon the book of the same name written by James Michener and is a historical fiction narrative of the interactions of various peoples on the North American continent. There are kernels of truth contained within it but it is greatly compressed because there were millions of people involved in The American Manifest Destiny of the 19th Century. As to why they do not show it on television anymore it all comes down to one thing: money and advertising can it be made?
there is a reason why it is called the idiot box! as for the quality of television it has always been brainless let alone mindless. occassionally though there is some factual and interesting thoughts found but overall it is for entertainment value only and increasingly for idiotic thrills.

just to watch...
does anyone know where I can get this whole series....
I would so love to own it...

Well, if you have Netflix i'd just try to rent "Centennial".
If not, they look for it at Target, FYE, or Best Buy. One of those big names should have it.

If they could do a mini-series this big today, it would cost a staggering amount.
Though I would love to see something similar, say along the lines of a Battlestar Glactica.

I teach Amer Hist and show most of this every year. I see former students years later and they ask if I still show it.

Have you ever considered showing the mini series "Into the West"? It was shown on TNT in 2005 and is now out on DVD. Excellent series!

As great as the series is, the book is even better because it really fleshes out the char-
acters & the story. I love James Michener &
this book is my favorite of all time. I remember
dragging out my reading as it got near the end
'cause I didn't want the story to end, it was
that good.

I saw this series in germany, titled as "The Colorado Saga" and remember it still today,
I wonder why the don´t show it in the TV anymore, is there to much truth in it ?

well, I´m from germany and we have TV stations
under public law (privates too), they are financed by public fee, so it is beyond what I can understand why they only broadcast crap 24/7...
