starts at 1300 poly's... with arms and legs i assume about 3000 polys... a little more detail in 3dsmax and this is a completed game charicter... amazing how many polygons mudbox adds, movie graphics blow my mind
@tylerlilmonsta yes if you are a student you can get if for free just buy using your student email address and it will get you 13 months worth of the software. or if you would like a permanent license for students you can go to a website call journeyed. you can get 3ds max, maya,mudbox, motionbuilder, softimage, and sketchbook pro all for like $399(which really is an excellent deal. But if you think the price of the software is too much you man not have a machine capable of running it since...
Does this only work on nurbs or does it work on polygons? I'm just wondering if I need this program for modeling characters for video games... I think most games just use polygons...
@minime404 Thats why the title reads mudbox SCULPTING TUTORIAL you retard. Modeling and sculpting are different things dumb shit go earn some money and join an institution and educate yourself.
Thanks for the intro. Well, I'm not that much familiar with this software but i would like to ask something, what is the different " I mean in the obtained result" between using Mudbox and using Zbrush, is there any difference, OR the final result are almost the same, just like using any other 3D software like using 3D max or Maya!!!.

so.. many.. poly's.. I try to keep it as close to 500-1000 as possible.. for a whole body >.< but I guess this is really good to pull bump maps off of. or movies..
Thanks for posting my video and for the comments guys. If you guys want some more info on Mudbox and this character, check out the Autodesk Mudbox Blog at The-Area.com/blogs/craig
i got it and i installed it it installed properly and everything but i cant actually see the shape where the object should be like the body doesnt show up its just white
@marksest so lets say i make a 3d model of my hand in maya and import to mud and add details... can i import it back into maya if lets say i wanted my hand a little bigger. i was guesing the skin (details added in mud) will stay im mud and the sketeton will be exported back to maya to get increased?
@addobernard As far as I remember it would take the entire model back to maya, details included. Mudbox still uses polygons to sculpt, so it should still work completely fine in maya, mudbox just has more convenient modeling tools.
hello i have big problem with the sculping and i really need your help. i have problem when i sculpting with a stamp or stencils. is it that with the stencils you can sculpting the same form or image what is in the stencil like tiles and whatever? when i sculping with them i making a mess on the object. it's some how very scaled and is not the same stencil image. if you understand me please help me

can you retopologize in this program?
warhawk 11 months ago
@warhawk no, you can not.
I would recommend anyone to buy Zbrush, and later on as you get deeper into the industry get 3dCoat for retopo jobs!

Maya is a 3d modeling/ animation program, this is for sculpting. People make the basic shape on maya and import it into here for detail.

if your stencil has noise in it. like dirt specs or something thats gonna show up. Best bet is to use a clean black and white image.
