Installed on my wife's DROID X over the weekend. All went fairly smooth, except on re-assembly the top 1/2 inch (in portrait mode) of the touch screen does not work. Everything else works fine including 90% of the touchscreen. It's just the top 1/2 inch or so that does not respond to any touch at all. Do you think it is a bad screen I received, or something else is going on? Thanks.
@leswillis In most cases it is either a bad connection from the touch screen flex cable to the motherboard. Could also be damage to the digitizer senors or a rip in the flex cable. I would pop it open and just double check the connection and look for any damage.
@RepairsUniverse OK, I took it all apart and checked everything. It all looks good. Inspected all the connections, sockets, and cables under strong magnification - all look fine. No tears or damage to cables. Touch screen looks good. Re-assembled and same symptoms still exist. Hard to use phone as the phone dial pad screen does not rotate, so the numbers at the top of screen (1,2,3) cannot be pressed!
What should we try next? I think this one must be faulty. Can you ship another one?
the last screw on the metal backplate was stripped to a perfect circle by the time I got to it. Is there a way to remove the top screen without removing this screw or can I try to pry it out?
@ThePrestige387 You will either need to use a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.
** the keys light up when the screen comes on (from pressing the top button) I checked the alignment and can feel buttons click when pressed. the mic also works any ideas? thanks.
@Jacezx3 Not too many other things it can be. If you can feel clicking and the LED's are lighting then it still leads me to believe it is an issue with the keypad flex cable. Could be a rip, damaged circuitry, etc., in which case a replacement would resolve the issue. These flex cables are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@Jacezx3 Likely a connection issue with the keypad flex cable. I would suggest checking this connection and being sure the buttons themselves are properly aligned.
Great video. Thanks. I was totally able to disasemble my phone and replace the screen. To top it off, everthing works fine! I would suggest one improvement, though: Show an abbreviated "putting it back together" piece at the end. It would help. Also, you might dicuss the adhesives and protective films that get destroyed during the process. Clearly their ;presence doesn't make a lot of difference, but if someone wanted to replace these things it would be nice to know about it.
@blumuze2 Great work with your repair! Thank you for your input. We do understand that an assembly guide would be nice, but the steps are shown in this video, just reversed. We also do have a video up about applying new adhesive, etc. This is available in our channel.
@RepairsUniverse In fact, I did use your video in reverse to reassemble. I was just saying that a little sequential recap at the end would have helped. But you've done enough and I thank you. I'll check out the adhesive video.
@blumuze2 Good point, It may be something we will try on future videos. It is no problem at all, we are glad the video helped out. And thank you for the below comment about the rubber spacer, that may help some of our viewers.
One thing to watch out for is the little rubber spacer that goes between the on/off button and the switch itself. In my case it fell out of the phone when I took the back plate off and there were a few breathless moments before I figured out where it came from.
@workm907 First, be sure you are using the correct size screwdriver. A few ideas are using some penetrating oil, such as WD-40. Apply it using a Q-tip to get the exact location and not have to worry about over spay. If that does not help and the screw becomes stripped, I suggest using a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.
@workm907 Also be sure you're using the correct KIND of screwdriver. Every screw head on this phone is a torx head. You can find suitable kits on Amazon.
Great video!! Dropped my droid in a cup of coke and it stopped working. Took it apart and cleaned it all out with q tips and alcohol. Good as new!!! Thank you
Hey when i put everything back together, the screen works and everything but the camera button, home key, search key, and menu key do not work? any ideas
@308mtndrew Sounds like an issue with the buttons flex cable. I would check the connection on the cable underneath the buttons and be sure it is fully in place. If it appears to be, check for damage, like a small rip that may have occurred.

@GarrettRomines This is usually caused by a connection issue. Have you checked the connection to make sure it is fully in place? Has the phone had water damage? How did the LCD screen display before replacement?
@SallyBrown281 Can you not hear any sound from the ear speaker? How about the loud speaker (speakerphone)? Sounds like a connection issue, I would disassemble and check for issues with the speakers, flex cables, and especially the connections to the motherboard. Hope this helps, good luck!
@YaBoiiCELL Yes, the touch screen will be held in place with adhesive. We have a new video showing this process. Check it out! We have adhesive strips available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. Good luck!
