  • I'm not gonna respond to the trolls since that would just be feeding... lol.

But answer me this, all fans, and all naysayers. Name me one, that's right just ONE, medal-contending female figure skater from the 1996 to 2006 era that did a triple lutz CONSISTENTLY in almost EVERY exhibition program she ever performed.

Answer, you won't. Technical mastery is technical mastery. Say what you will, Michelle has landed more triple lutz's on performance and exhibition ice than ANY other skater.

  • Beautiful. Poetry in motion. One of the best skaters ever - all heart and soul ! Knowing the back story makes this such an incredibly emotional video/performance. (Yes, I'm a girly-man, I teared up the night I watched this live). Michelle Kwan makes skating look so easy and natural and she exudes artistic beauty and pure joy as she skates. It is so obvious she loves skating and looks like she belongs on the ice. Incredible. Love it.

  • @Themindiscurious Loves skating? Not so much imo. She seemed ready to show up when the money was a given and as far as competition... she just expects the gold to be handed to her just for showing up... Skating to fields of Gold? Come on. Should have been grateful and relieved to stand on another Olympic podium (bronze belonged to Sasha) but instead spouts this sappy number to play on public sympathy and looked quite angry and shocked on that podium.

  • No Gold...boohoo...she didn't even deserve bronze...she turns on the waterworks and everyone just wets their pants over her. Couldn't stand up herself so everyone does it for her.

  • Oh Kwan wanted the gold. She wanted it REAL bad. Thinking that it was a foregone conclusion that it was going to be handed to her. Wearing the gold...the games were supposed to be about ME-ME-ME-chelle flaunting that coveted medal. So selfish, so spoiled, so arrogant...thinking same, old, and coachless didn't matter. Oh the justice of it all! Sarah saved the sport and proved it's all about the competition, and not the name, that matters!

  • The best performance by any of the ladies skaters at this Olympics--competitive performances included. Michelle has the "it" factor. It can't be taught.

  • Just beautiful!

  • Michelle had nothing to do with the adoption of COP. It was created as a result of the judging scandal in the pairs competition at this Olympics. COP does value artistry--or is supposed to--in the PCS. The second mark still holds up artistic skaters like Yu Na, even when she falters, as she did at 2010 Worlds.

  • @anubethc45 Actually, Michelle Kwan was a very big part of the reason that COP came into play. No longer can 'artistry' camoflage lack of any courage or true competitive desire. Michelle Kwan is the only skater quilty of this. She assumed that no matter how she skated her so called artistry would give her the gold medal. She sucked off the 6.0 system her entire career. Tonya Harding was a true athlete and she did more for the sport than Kwan. And she was Kwan's idol and role model. How fitting.

    PR diplomacy in Salt Lake

John Arenberg is Emory sports information director

Namely, that judging results are predetermined by reputation and that only major spills can alter the outcome. That if Kwan fell down three times, she would still get at least a bronze medal because of her stature in the sport.

  • My grandfather does and AMAZING cover of this song so it kind of means something to me... And she really really explains it well.... She has me crying. I mean that was so beautiful... she must feel so beautiful...

  • 9 people aren't walking on feilds of Gold...

  • michelle kwan is my favorite my idol /fans and i love her gracefulness touch my heart the best skater of all times,so amazing

  • @Briheeds she deserve everything

  • I've always believed that everything happens for a reason. If Michelle won the gold back in 1998, she may have retired and have been forgotten, just like Tara Lipinski. She won the silver and also the hearts of MILLIONS, urging her to continue. She had 10 times more applause than any other skater out there in the 2002 Olympics. If she went pro early, she wouldn't be "The most decorated skater of all-time." She wouldn't have so many titles. She wouldn't be THE Michelle Kwan.

    We Love You.

  • @MusicLuver093 You are right about her hanging on and on and on, sleazing into Torino only to leave like a whipped pup after sufficient media coverage..of course she would have retired if she had been handed the gold in Nagano as she expected. She is decorated with other skater's medals and will never have the only one that matters anyway. The reason she didn't win is because she isn't good enough.

  • @getrealandsee But that doesn't excuse her from having won more titles than any other skater out there with an exception to a few decades earlier, as well as almost 5 times more pefect 6.0's than any other skater in history. To say she isn't good enough is ignorant. She's widely known as the greatest skater of all time. Not saying I completely agree but people draw these titles for her from performances, not thin air.

  • @MusicLuver093 Oh how very true. You can bet that had Michelle been handed 'her' Olympic Gold medal (omg...I didn't WIN...but but but I am Michelle Kwan, how can that be?) she would have beat it off the competiton circuit in a flash. THE michelle kwan never won nor will she ever wear the ONLY medal that means diddly Olympic Gold. As far as titles and being known...so is Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky, Charlie Manson, among others. She didn't earn all of her titles up to and including this Bronze

  • @kwansansog I'm not really sure where you were going with that comment... It seemed inconclusive. Please elaborate. Are you saying she isn't considered one of the greats because of her talent? Or are you saying she is a legend because of her never giving up?

  • @MusicLuver093 She is actually a media creation who believed all the hype. Michelle Kwan never thought that she had to do anything but step on the ice and she would be handed the gold medal simply because she is well THE Michelle Kwan. There is a big difference between never giving up and demolishing someone else's dream. Michelle was handed Sasha's bronze in SLC.Tanya Harding is ALSO a figure skating legend. There is a Legend and then there is a Legend. Kwan really used Figure Skating!!

  • @MusicLuver093 Never giving up and NEVER upping the ante. Always counting on her 'artistry' Tara's program was artistic and athletic as was Kim Yuna's. Sarah really worked hard, changes were made to her program, the first woman in history to do two triple triples in competiton. Kwan DID quit trying years and years ago and again just counted on name value and face time. She is arrogant and conceited enough to consider HERSELF one of the greats. She isn't. She just hung on forever.

  • @kwansansog "Kwan DID quit trying years and years ago..." Those are some big words from someone who never knew her. Did you really compare her to Tonya Harding? I'm done here lol. However I will say that All those athletes you listed were exceptional. Yuna Kim is phenomenal, as well as Sasha. Sasha just wasn't good enough. The argument that the judges were biased is a never ending debate. It's like debating religion. There's no correct answer in both figures eyes. You just seem to have

  • @kwansansog [CONT] unconditional hatred for Michelle Kwan because you feel that she took Sasha's medal. Grudges are unhealthy.

  • @MusicLuver093 You are a banana boat! First off, I don't think she took Sasha's bronze, I think that the judges pitied her and besides there was no way in Hell that Kwan was going home empty handed. This was predicted, actually. Sasha earned the bronze medla but as with so many other skaters the favortism and propping of Kwan played in and she was just another victim.

  • @kwansansog Hmm so you don't consider 9 olympic figure skating judges experts? lol The fact that you still care about this nearly a decade later is pathetic. GET OVER IT. MICHELLE KWAN WON BRONZE. NO ONE ELSE DID!

  • @kwansansog NEWS FLASH SASHA DIDN'T MEDAL. MICHELLE DID. There will ALWAYS be debate that judges acted biased with ANYONE. There will always be one other "kwansanog" that will bash another skater for winning a medal that they believe someone else deserved. This debate is pointless. MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE DUDE. IT'S A DONE DEAL.

  • @kwansansog YEP... But guess what? She already destroyed all those dreams :). All Hail Queen Kwan!

  • @kwansansog

I'm truly unbiased as I know nothing of the skating circles when I say that your comments belong somewhere else than on this video. This is absolutely remarkable performance and when it comes to musicality she's one of the better ones I've seen.

  • Oh, Michelle! You are forever the Ice Queen of our hearts!

  • at 3:33 that has to be one of the best layback spins I have ever seen Michelle do.

  • Tonya Harding was just an overrated jump queen who can only excel on her triple axel at a slanted angle. She is not as graceful nor as beautiful as Michelle Kwan is. I can't see Tonya Harding as a proper role model for a budding skate queen. As eccentric as Tonya Harding appeared to be, she hardly represents a great role model for athletes and fans as Michelle Kwan and Sasha have both proven to be.

  • @waddleduckie1 Well, Tonya was Michelle's idol...and how very fitting.

  • I am her BIGGEST fan she is everything i want to be!

  • No one can hold a flaming candle to Michelle Kwan, not even by a mile. Especially when getrealandsee can't get to the level of credibility she completely lacks. When all eyes focuses on Michelle, she is a star of the show, not getrealandsee. who tries to outshine Michelle Kwan. Getrealandsee is not a classified figure skater, nor is she fully qualified to go around and post nasty insults about Michelle Kwan. It is enough to make me want to defend Michelle Kwan as much as Mao Asada.

  • @waddleduckie1 And completely lacking in "getrealandsee" is that which is central to credibility:

    integrity.

Has absolutely none. It's no wonder he so hates Kwan, who has an extra supply of it.

  • omg i'm crying like a little boy.

  • shit, even my husband cried and he all man.

  • @rmecrowe Oh God! He must be sucking cock on the side.

  • The best ladies figure skating performance at this Olympics.

  • This is probably one of her most emotional performances!! The music and lyrics are totally on point with the emotion of having just lost olympic gold.. It's about how we'll remember her years down the road.. When the west wind moves in our minds to figure skating, we'll remember Michelle as one of, if not THE greatest female skater of all time.

  • This is my favorite performance of hers, which is a little strange since it's an exo and she had so many amazing performances, but this one is the most personal and beautiful to me.

  • >I think this is her most personal skate. Almost a farewell skate

    ditto

  • >Everyone loved her for who she was, not for how many gold medals she had.

    i agree

  • >it isn't about since I can't win it...SOUR GRAPES

    contrary to Miki-chan・・・?

  • >I cried at the end...

    me too

  • Amazing Figure Skater. A 'Diva' of the Ice.

    - "Success isn't always measured by a Gold Medal".

    Michelle skates like an angel.

  • u posted this on my birthday!!! and im a figure skater that lves michelle kwan!!!

  • Michelle Kwan marked the world of Figure Skating for ever. Everyone loved her for who she was, not for how many gold medals she had. I know she's the reason i started skating and I never regret it.

Thank you Michelle for being such an inspiration to all of us!

  • Wonderful, graceful, my role model

  • amazing, perfect, wonderful, great, excellent, exquisite It didn't matter that she won the bronze. I would have paid just to see her exhibition, even over Sarah Hughes exhibition(my opinion).

  • I think this is her most personal skate. Almost a farewell skate in my opinion, showcase all the things that makes us love michelle. I actually fell in love with Eva Cassidy's music after seeing this performance

  • this footage defines 'beauty'. classic!

  • do you now if she will skate in yuna kim show this year?

  • @whirlpool1988 no she's not.

  • 1:37-1:38 Exquisite.

  • 4:09 - 4:15 was such an amazing move!

I wish she continued to skate, she is so amazing at it!

  • One of my favorite all time programs to watch. She shows her heart, love, and integrity. This moment will forever be iconic immortalize this true champion. She skates with her heart and has the gift to translate music into movement. Few skaters have this gift. It is music in motion. It brings tears each time I watch it. Whoever makes negative comments on Michelle does not truly understand what she did for this sport... A true champion. Success is not always measure in gold medals.

  • I cried at the end...

  • She is a great person... She is a great artist, not only an athlete...I just simply love her best!

  • 3:22 - 3:30 is just remarkably too beautiful for words

  • she's a legend :D

  • aggghhhhhh her spirals are just spectacular.

  • WONDERFUL! I love Michelle Kwan and her skating. She'll always be a winner.

  • Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold. Great choice of music

  • Wow! She is so amazing. I am just amazed with the way that her skates glade on the ice. It is so beautiful. I am going to start taking Ice Skating lessons, but, I doubt that I will be as good as her. I mean, LOOK at her! She is AMAZING!

  • hey does anybody know where to find like michelles last exhibiton skate? shes wearing a white dress, and its very beautiful and unique? like mia micheals style (dance person if you dont know search her up , shes amazing)

  • Everything about this is electric. Aside from the context, and the tears at the end (which show you just how much she loves this sport), I was struck by: The perfection of the edges, the perfect jumps, the stunning last spin combo, with the beautiful lay back middle, and of course the ease of her spirals. This shows why she is revered by so many skaters; we all know how difficult everything she did in this is, and we want to do it like that!

  • beautiful song. beautiful performance. beautiful skater. she is the living embodiment that you don't have to be a gold medalist to be a legend. no one will ever touch the standard she set.

  • I remember watching this and crying along with her at the end of the performance. I still get teary eyed when I see this.

  • I never begrudged Sarah Hughes the gold. All things considered, she deserved it. I couldn't tell you anything about her performance, though. After watching Michelle's exhibition, it was like no one had ever skated before. This was the only thing I remembered. That's the triumph. The trancendency.

  • What an inspiration for all aspiring figure skaters. You are so loved. You will remain in my memory always.

  • TracyTerry, get lost, skank!

  • At the end, you just want to grab her and let her know that she is so respected, and so loved, and I just wish there was a way that she could know how much she has meant to so many people. RAW EMOTION!

  • How can you not cry with her... she even made Scott Hamilton choke up when trying to talk... an amazing, emotional performance by the legend!

  • tracy terrry u r a BITCH. go do something with ur life

  • It's the best exhibition I have ever seen :) after watching her olympics programs I started to be interested in figure skating

  • hahahhaa you wish.

  • its perfect y_y

  • perfet, i am cry

  • omw i wanna cry that was beautiful. did she win gold?

  • i LOVED this, so so breathtaking <33

  • Simplemente Bellisimo!!!

  • No no, shes outstanding for that grace peculiar to her adding to perfect tecnique as shes called "Miss perfect on ice"

That pause also twinkles done by her.

  • They talk about how graceful she is, but that her technique is simple.

But, when she hydroplanes, comes out of that into a kneeling fourth (sitting on one knee) while propelling backwards and then stands and goes into a turn, that technique and strentgth are remarkable and perfect.

No one else skates like that.

    No one.

  • Without a doubt, the best figure skater.

  • precisely,top flower aside.

  • By the way

    this tune is by Sting?

I always think its like womans voice.

  • Its not sting. There are several version of fields of gold

  • Whos singing?

  • Eva Cassidy

  • Oh i didnt know that Thank you

  • Great;

Subsequently, other figure skaters such as Kristi Yamaguchi,Sarah HughesandKimmie Meissnerhave used Cassidy's music in their routines.

    (from Wikipidia)

  • It's written by Sting, but Eva Cassidy really made it her own with this recording.

  • She needed to be surrounded by satisfied people.

  • that was her big weakpoint, outside C.

  • No mark(it was quite difficult as long as her previous carrier was known.too high place you know) and calm・・・

  • She was just trying to take back '99 good condition.

  • I've never actually seen Michelle Kwan skating. Just amazing, very dynamic and powerful!

  • Me neither

She cut the show where i could see Irina, Cande,A&P・・・

  • And Maria

  • @liveforlife2494: Wow, you've never seen Kwan skating! You're lucky, because you can now go and watch all of her flawless programs that brought all of the audiences to their feet, and to tears of joy. There's a reason why she's an icon, and why 300 plus people comment on almost all of her clips.

  • Coach should be one person as it deprives her power to pay attention to both when their ability is same.

  • One more thing,

She had two same ability coach and they are rival,so she had hard time between them.

    (that happened often after that)

  • Its funny remembering thexy say"its strange"

    "its strange"

  • >She did not have right for saying as term is short(so did everyone before either,so no change!).

Everyone KNOWS its too hard and strange,

none-the-less, stayed same so long lol

  • Actually,girls'ability was much superior.

  • Mens skaters are not needed such a thing

Only girls were in harsh situation.

  • Judge said,something "twinkling" needed. Vague・・・

  • Harshly enough,to the results of 92-93,she was said, not only skating ability is enough to win in the world.

  • Up on the contrary?

  • of 1992-93

  • The result of competition did not harm her popularity.

  • I dont know

if she cried after competition or not,

    this is exhibition,so

    this crying means relief.

  • No,this Crying shows greatness of her skating life.

  • it breaks my heart to see her cry at the end of her performance, but none-the-less she is one of the greatest skaters in the world no doubt about that

  • Every girl had been like that,he had been disappointed.

  • She just wanted to skate.

  • >most(artificially) complicated work

Its really(x2)tough of course, but that became guard from gm,good in a way.

  • and also necessary step as newcomer maybe・・・

  • She lost original"self".

    "Who am I?"

    Nothing to cling!!

  • She recognized having "what you can do stably" is really center and basis of her.

  • >how horrible and unstable feeling when you are in front of completeley new(and heavy)task?

But you go ahead, as long as the Way exists in front of you,

    no matter how its unpredictable・・・

  • That was just soon after she got a little "clue".

  • "No Mark" calm condition.

  • She was in"ready"mood with a little practice done.

  • She was in good mood&condition in 99 as "she" thinks.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow she(Miki)won 3rd in the World!?

    Great・・・like Cande・・

  • i see her(Miki)mental weakness as she makes big failure in beginning part of program, her whole program tends to be destroyed.

  • >mental weakness

Maybe that derives from her youth(said genious and could quite easily achieve difficult jump)

Plus coming up of younger ones.

  • To me, Mao or Kim seems real genious as figureskater as a whole.

Miki or M.Ito was genious in "phisical ability".

But i prefer recent Miki's performance, seems grown up mentally.

  • Of course Michelle was greater,

She,had Grace and Charm peculiar to her.

  • Which, was also comment of her coach.

  • Michell must have wanted Gold Medal.

But i can understand Miki Ando (Idont know now)focused on if she could accomplished what she had in mind, not winning, after she decended from top.

  • Ending it not mastering(understanding)is most horrible thing you know.

  • Both for herself and her boss.

  • You know how horrible and unstable feeling when you are in front of completeley new(and heavy)task?

  • when she entered there for the first time, she thought she came sanatrium as many were coghing and pale.

the season was also bad(hardest through the year)

  • one more thing, it was so hard for her to wait for final decision.

    so long vague situation

Sudden dicision should have been better.

  • Comment removed

  • I prefer artistic ones!!

  • I ♥ her and tara lipinski!!!

  • all girls actually crying.

    Sports world

    Both Body and Brain

  • she felt phisical strength is really important factor for career then.

  • everyone there likes

    Till 5 AM.

  • first lesson・・till 5AM.

  • fist feeling vs.men

  • @tampopoliquor: What the hell are you people talking about? Go do this on a forum, instead of having conversations that don't make sense on youtube. I hate having to scroll through all this crap to read the legit comments. I mean, we should be talking about the CLIP!
