  • This song really highlights the predicament the Jews were unwittingly placed in with the whole Jesus situation.

  • i am law and order

  • "hes just another scripture thumping hack from galilee" oh shit. annis has the floor.

  • I think green day were thinking in this song when they wrote Boulevard of broken dreams

  • @STOBMNT Possibly. That green day album had lots of classic influences.

  • @wolfmon42

They use similar chords in that song

  • Caiaphas looks likes he's wearing a garlic clove on his head. And his friend has a rice grain on his! :)

  • He has a Hogwarts lantern!!!!

  • great piano!!

  • i love the evil voice of caiaphas it's brilliant

  • caiaphas and annas are like an old gay married couple

  • Comment removed

  • omg annas is so self centerd he doesnt care when his people are in danger (caiaphas says this)

but his position is he is so worried

  • The piano track is awesome...wish I could get my hands on the sheet music (I'm horrible at playing from ear)

  • they're hot

  • People like to labels different media as the "best x ever" while jumping hither and thither to new and more exciting forms of entertainment... but I think that, with complete honesty, this is the best scene in any play, ever.

  • I used to watch this constantly when I was a kid...even then I had a crush on Caiphas lol....that voice,damn...

  • Only Caiaphas could wear such a ridiculous hat and still look entirely respectable/intimidating.

  • @calarooni ... and pretty good-lookin too lol

  • @crazeerenegade He's sexy, I think!

  • @HobbitAnnyBaggins Yeah!! I think he's got a very masculine beauty. And what a voice!!

  • @crazeerenegade The voice is all!!! "I'm Law and Order" is sooooooooooooo hot!!!

  • omg amazing annas moment 2:24 2:31

  • I'm amazed Bob Bingham never went on to fame. He's such a great actor in this film.

  • OMG Annas is the one, behind the scenes, planning it all- just look how he manipulates Caiaphas- he's like a biblical Grima Wormtongue

  • @JohnDanielLimpsawn except they're not evil.

  • @bowserhunter1 Yes, but neither was Grima (at least in Tolkien's version). :-)

  • @barefootcapegirl I think he was, he just redeemed himself by killing Saruman.

  • I love those hats, made me ROFL when i first saw them XD

  • That Annas is bananas

  • This song is so damn hot to watch. xD

  • "he's a craze!" my favorite line of the whole movie

  • I bought an LP version of the musical, I was so happy to find one with this song. It's really gone of the greatest in the play.

  • Luv the ending at 2:35,

    "THEN WE ARE DECIDED!"

  • you can tell their rank by the size of their hats, clearly caiaphas is ranked higher than annas

  • these guys couldn't have killed jesus! they're too flamboyant!

  • This song is awesome, i saw this on tv i dont no if they added this song to it :l but caiaphas is amazing XD

  • After playing Annas in this production, Al Pacino went on to play Frank Serpico. And I also think Caiaphas is hot, but I didn't realize it when I saw this movie at 7.

  • Annas is such a weasel! And Caiaphas is a sexy sexy man.

  • I want the hats! :D

  • I should have mentioned that I just heard recently that Carl Anderson passed away ? Is that really true. ?

  • @KCKILLERCAT thanks noooo carl anderson.. nooooo.

well darn!! i really wish i could have saw him live....TT__TT i remeber being a baby and my mom would sing me JCS songs as lullabys.. and then watching it for the first time when i was 3 or 4... ( was born in 1989) lol i have loved it since.

  • One of my favorite songs!

  • This is quite possibly my favorite JCS song. The piano is boss if you really listen to it, and it's really interesting to see the interaction between Caiaphas and Annas (YAY BROMANCE!).

Plus also I enjoy the line, "I cannot let my hands be tied - I watch Law and Order!"

    (that's of my own devising.)

  • If I ever get a chance to stage a production of JCSS, rest assured this song WILL be in the performance.

  • lol i just love at the end: "then we are deCIDE-ED!"

  • HES STARING INTO YOUR SOUL

  • In the latest Danish version of JCS, they used this song. I was so confused, I hadn't heard it before. Now I get why.

  • LOVE. THEIR. HATS.

  • @Indulgeindark394 My mum calls them Jiffy-Pop hats. XD

  • Caiaphas = HAWT.

  • Caiaphas is great, but I seriously love Annas in this scene, particularly in the "say so to the council" lines.

  • @arryarrfiddledeedee I know me tooo - "say so to the council..." and watch his eyes, devious....

  • Kurt Yaghjian! So he is Armenian like me - thence his Middle Eastern looks - their voices make such a beautiful harmony in this little piece - each is a shadow of the other and without each other they are not half as beautiful. The strong and deep against wily and foxy. I have just watched the whole opera again and it hasn't become obsolete or old fashioned - the questions asked sound just as acute and in our age of shallowsness it really does come across like a deep and thoughtful endeavour.

  • why did they cut this song/scene out of the new productions, i love it :\

  • @sgtfish360

This song/scene was created specifically for the 1973 movie only.

Never agin to be heard or seen anywhere else.

  • @RlCBNH But it has been used in one of the many. watch?v=dw5V_-OTK5w

  • @RlCBNH But it was used in one of the many (watch?v=dw5V_-OTK5w)

I would love to have this in the 2000 version, though, It's such an awesome song, and I liked that version much better (haters gonna hate this)

  • @RlCBNH I never knew that, myself. I was in a community theatre version of JCS and played Ciaphas. I really wanted to do this song but we didn't have the music

  • @RlCBNH its actually been in several productions of the play

  • @RlCBNH and I think it was one of the best - it was so good - and important for the plot

  • @RlCBNH A few productions added it in. I believe it was in the British production with Glenn Carter and James Fox.

  • @RlCBNH Actually they used it in the Norwegian revival of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2009. It worked very well! They should start to use it in other productions too.

  • @RlCBNH Actually I have seen it in a theatrical setup in 1999/2001 :)

  • @RlCBNH

    Hungary, Szolnok, 2011

I cried like baby when i found this out. : )

  • @RlCBNH Why was this song created? Did they want to make the movie different from the play?

  • @sgtfish360 Some minor productions add this song - the same way some minor productions of Little Shop of Horrors add the movie-only "Mean Green Mother" song

  • @sgtfish360 I think the reason why they might have cut this scene "Then We are Decided" is because of the way the Jewish priesthood is portrayed. After all, if Jesus was the true Messiah then they would have had to submit to his will and the Jewish priesthood would have lost its place among the Jewish people. Apparently in order to prevent cries from some people, who can see this as anti-semitism, the "politically correct" version means this scene has to go away.

  • @sgtfish360 any idea of how to get the sheet music to this number....I would love to put it in a production...

  • Too bad many are unfamiliar with this song/scene..Top notch scene with Bob Bingham (Caiphas) and Kurt Yaghjian.

  • This scene is the backbone of the whole thing. It is the best part of the movie. This scene decides the fate. The church needs to be united because of the implications of killing such a popular figure. His peace scares the shit out of the church!

  • I love this song! It should be in shows...the piano part kills my soul it sounds so damn cool

  • I never understood why this song was omitted from the 1996/97 west end shows. Any idea why?

  • @JimmyL84

It was not omitted as it wasn't part of the original stage play to begin with. This scene was devised excusively for the film version.

  • Hum this song on a daily basis

  • "The difference is they call him KING, THE DIFFERENCE FRIGHTENS ME!"

  • Now i want Jiffy pop popcorn.

  • I LOVE this song. I'm sad that it was only written for this movie, I'm guessing stage versions don't often include this song?

  • Thank you for posting this.. I went to JCS at the Hollywood Bowl in 1971.

  • You just dont see wonderful movies like this being made anymore :)

  • I first saw this when I was about 6.. And since then I've always thought that Caiaphas was really hot. "I AM LAW AND ORDERRR". Phwoarr.

  • @NoBusesx I kind of agree. There is something attractive about his unbelievably ballsy voice and S&M-y outfit. Still, Judas (Carl Anderson) is who my heart beats for the most.

  • @TheSim1derful Carl Andersoooonnnn.... drooooooooollllll.

  • TO CONTINUE MY COMMENT FROM 3 HQ... WHEN I WAS READING THE PROGRAM WHILE SITTING IN OUR 3RD ROW CENTER SEATS, I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS SEEING. TED NEELEY AND CARL ANDERSON !!?? I STILL DIDN'T BELIEVE IT UNTIL THEY CAME ON STAGE.....I WEPT LIKE A LITTLE GIRL FOR THE FIRST 1/2 HOUR . WHAT WERE THE ODDS. I HAD NO IDEA, I WOULD BE SEEING THEM LIVE. PROBABLY THE MOST AMAZING EVENING I'VE EVER HAD. THANKS FOR POSTING.

  • @KCKILLERCAT

  • @KCKILLERCAT That's amazing. I am SO jealous.

  • @Abbytater --I WISH YOU AND EVERY OTHER FAN COULD HAVE BEEN THERE TOO! I WONDER IF THEY KNOW THE EFFECT THEY HAVE HAD ON MY GENERATION AND NOW YOURS...PROFOUND !!! ENJOY IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE TOO !

  • @KCKILLERCAT I will! They actually just replayed the movie in a local theatre in my town. It was awesome.

  • @Abbytater - Aww.... now I am jealous.... when I was your age I saw it at the drive-inn! ...Now that's the best !!! We still have the same drive-in up here... If it ever comes again I will let you know !!!!! In fact... I'm going to make that my new project >>>to see if I can get them to play it next summer !! Where are you from ?

  • @KCKILLERCAT Canada! I'm guessing you are, too, considering we Canucks have some of the last drive ins in North America.

  • @Abbytater ----Sooo true, and isn't that just sad ?

  • Comment removed

  • @KCKILLERCAT OMG they are still singing in this!! *DIES* where did you see this!!! an

  • @knowntoknow ... 2nd try ... Sorry My info. didn't get to you. I saw them in Toronto and one of the big live theaters there. It was 20 years from the time the movie first came out . It was spectacular and I feel so priveledged to have seen Carl Anderson and Ted Neeley live. I'm so glad the younger generation is continuing the love of this movie . KC

  • Annas looks like a Conehead with that hat!

  • This one and Heaven on Their Minds are my absolute favourites in this movie. Everybody has great voices, especially Judas =) Awesome musical!

  • I wish this song were in the version of 2000.... But its real great this song...

  • love this...film is the best version I think

  • I like how they used the original buildings,(even if they are ruined now).

  • BOB BINGHAM che soffre sul trono da Capo del Sinedrio per il successo popolare di Gesu' e' da brivido; copricapo sontuoso.....

  • they added this song into the film cuz religious groups in the area would only let them film in their land if they showed the priests in a better light. they added a song to the movie which showed the priests' point of view and the difficult position they had been put in

thats why this song isn't in any other version, though i wish it was :(

  • @RedKingCommandz Yeah its a good scene because the Jewish preists come across as evil bastards who hate jesus without it, but this song gives them more depth and develops their character, i like it. It also shows Caiaphas' hidden fear behind his calm, powerful which is really interesting.

  • @RedKingCommandz I agree. The priest's point of view complicates a moral situation of the movie in very a good way imho. Caiphas repeats some important arguments of Judas here.

  • I say A.L.W. self plagerised in Evita.

Same music . Same riffs...(i think i have my terms wrong.)

    what do you think?

  • @tomwmloppe

...he also cribs some music From Joseph ATATD (the riff which accompanies"Joseph was taken to Egypt in chains and Sold") to the Trial before Pilate in JCS

  • they use one scene/ locaction...

for all of the acts (maybe not all)

  • between 1:41 and 1:49 - great work of camera.

  • THIS SONG IS AWESOME AND IS NOT IN THE OTHER VERSIONS

  • greatest rock opera ever? I dare say it is.

  • excelente rola que solo se encuentra en el soundtrack de la pelicula y no en el disco original

  • sahweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet x3 thank you so much!!

  • Thanks for the upload, this song is really hard to track down on Youtube and I don't think its on the album either.

  • YVW and thanks.

    ♫Ric♫

  • @worldsendmusic some people bought the dvd themselves..

  • @worldsendmusic it is on the soundtrack album.

  • @worldsendmusic It's on the album we own of the movie... :/

  • good colour + lighting . . .actually get to see the detail of the scene

  • I enhanced all these edits for max resolution and color saturation to offset losses on YouTube.
