It's funny, i'm not an extremely religious person, more spiritual really, but it used to be that atheists badmouthed religious people for not respecting other people's beliefs (or lack thereof) and for being intolerant. But lately the only people I see throwing insults, making fun of, disrespecting other's beliefs and being just plain intolerant are the so called atheists... Go figure!

Alright, I've seen enough useless athiestic badmouthing here to say something. Yes, this peace was composed as an exerpt for 'Lady of the Lake'. But Schubert wrote it out of religious fervor. If that's not good enough, I'll point out that these are not the original lyrics as written by Schubert, but rather the words of the 'Hail Mary' prayer which were inserted at a later date. In summary, THIS IS A RELIGIOUS PIECE.

I'm Greek Orthodox, and while I have to disagree with the picked apart Catholic theology that Mary was sinless and the over-veneration she often gets, I find this song to be one of the most beautiful hyms I've ever heard. I don't care what your view on the Theotokos is or religion in general, this song is moving in a way that no one of any religion can deny how uplifting it is to the spirit. This song is one of those magnificent things that goes beyond church music and into art.

Zu dem sehr schöhnen lied haben meine Großeltern geheiratet und leider auch am todestag meiner oma, wurde dieses lied gespielt. sie währe ein tag später 85 geworden.
