Good thing that she's made her money already. Her team strategist's comment that he "probably didn't do a good job of coaching her to go slowly around until the pits opened" seems like a no-brainer to anyone, including someone who's got a contract to drive Indy cars (such as, I don't know... maybe Danica).

Franchitti made a mistake, braking late going into the pit and he screwed up. The spin out was all her fault, no reason to spin out like that in open track. The second spin out was probably caused by the first dropping tire pressure and her getting riled up (which she's done before).

As for the rest, even Mario Andretti spun out and made mistakes. She's been one of the most successful drivers in IRL since she came in. She's not the best, but she's far better than many of the men drivers.

what does flat spotted mean?

"Flat Spotting" is what happens to a tire when is not rotating but is still sliding along the track. this typically happens either in a spin or if the driver locks up the brakes.

it's possible to directly blow out a tire due to flat spotting but even if that doesn't happen it will make the car undriveable because the tire is now out of round. and of course, it's a much greater blowout risk.

"Flat Spotting" is what happens when a tire does not rotate but the car is still moving down the track.

This is normally caused by the driver locking up the brakes or by the car spinning. While this can directly cause a blowout many times it will simply grind a flat spot in the rubber and make the tire "square". of course, a thin spot in the rubber greatly increases the possibility that the tire will blow out.
