although I understand the little discussion below about who the credit of this trick should go to.. I find it quite off topic to the video.. just enjoy the vid ppl it's why we look this stuff up right..
Jean Hugard first used the purse frame way back in 1934 to produce a wand - Slydini would still have been practising his first Svengali Deck and his fake Italian accent!
The idea was sparked by Jean Hugard and first used in close up for coins by a magical bartender called Heba Haba Al. He worked at the 'New York Lounge' - in Chicago during the early 1950's.
Slydini didn't use the purse frame until the late 60's; by which time Johnny Paul and Albert Goshman had long since been using it for sponge balls as well as coins.
The best routine I ever seen the purse frame used for (as a prop rather than just a gimmick) is by Pat Page.
Actually it does not belong to Fred Kaps. Richard Kaufman was under the assumption it was and therefore published it in His coin magic book giving Fred credit for it. It belongs to Max Malini. Malini showed it to Vernon, who in turn showed it to Kaps.
Richard Kaufman I believe corrected it in The David Roth coin magic book he wrote on Roth's magic. Or on the Genii forum. I do know Richard did retract the credit to Kaps in public. Yes Kaps used it often but isn't his.Fred never took credit himself for it. Yes I know in write up of the coin purse routine that Anthony Brahms published he calls it the Kaps placement Check with Kaufman for the history of all this.
That other post was in a not awake frame of mind and wasn't what I wanted to say. sorry. I've been in magic for 36 years since I was ten. But you're not that far behind me and yes you obviously do have a vast knowledge as well.. Yes very same Vernon who we all owe a lot to.
Now That I think about it he may have corrected it in the coin book I don't have either the Roth book or Coin Magic handy at moment to check out what one it's in but I know in one or the other Richard did make the correction on the history of what is sometimes called the Malini/vernon/Kaps sublety

'That guy' is Brother John Hamman!
I doubt if he really was fooled so badly!!
EssexBoy696969 2 years ago
wasn't bro John Ham a card guy? he may have been unfamiliar with Fred Kaps coin techniques

I doubt that in all honesty...............but we'll just never know.
God - how will I now be able to sleep at night ever again?

I am almost certain that it was Slydini that first used the idea of a coin purse with no bag.

I never realized that the Kaps subtelty was so modern. I am assuming that Fred Kaps is the guy who created it. Is that correct?

Kaps subtetly invented by Fred Kaps.

Spot on - the only time I've actually seen it used tho (other than by Fred obviously) is by David Roth - he has some nice applications for it.

That's news to me - from what source did you get that? Is that the same Dai Vernon that saw a copy of Erdnase with photos when he was 6 years old?
If Kaps did not create this feint, he would not have had his name aligned to it.
With reference to your other post that was deleted. I don't want to get into a war of words with an 'internet hard man' - I'm far too scared.
However, I've been performing magic since 1975 (11yo) and working professionally since 1981 - what about you?

I imagine fredesen1593 doesn't know who Fred Kaps was. If you don't like it, go out and watch the commercial crap they're showing these days.
